  1. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats! :D Could you please tell me what the jumping trial involves?
  2. Off topic - what are the traditional methods? Why do you think that the positive reinforcement methods work slower? Correction collar and a lot of jerks when the dog does not respond to commands is more traditional for me. Positive reinforcement and shaping with a clicker (or "yes") can take much longer but it also stays for much longer. It can take longer because you don't put the dog in the right position but wait for her to perform the action you want to reinforce.
  3. Me too! I prefer a club using positive reinforcement, even if the results are slower than using more traditional methods.
  4. where can you get Scourban? do you need prescription for it?
  5. So if I have two ~20kg dogs could I give them 1/2 of Large Dog (22 - 45 kg) dose each?
  6. Does anyone know when is Orijen coming to Australia and who is going to stock it? (hopefully not PP )
  7. I tried to use Kiltix Dog Tick Collar for about 2 weeks and it still smelled really bad. I was told that after about a week of usage you stop noticing the smell but I could still smell it after 2 weeks. Does the smell ever go away?
  8. First of all you can always return RC and get your money back. However I had a very similar problem with my dog and her RC. She wouldn't eat it for a day or two. During that time I didn't offer her anything else, so after that she started eating it again and she loved it more than before! :D We finished a bag (15kg) but than I decided to try her on Nutro.
  9. In the book "Give your dog a bone" it's said that your if dogs needs stuff that is not provided in it's diet he will start eating poo that provides it. It suggests to add natural yogurt, brewers yeast and kelp to the dog's diet.

    Humping

I just wanted to say that I do see how some people could think that what I said was out of line. I PMed Rhi & Jak to excuse myself if I offended her. I do realize I was sarcastic and I definitely don't want to stir any commotion on this forum.
  11. My golden is 5mo+ , she is crated at night and can hold it. She is less than 20 kg. She has been night crated for about a month now without any accidents.
  12. I have two cats. One is really obsessed with food and therefore I can train him easily. The other one not so much and therefore much harder to train. She can come when called and retrieve a ball but that's about it.
  13. Would anyone recommend any good books tracking training for beginners? Thanks

    Humping

I don't think it was "no" that worked and taught Laffi not to mouth. I was ignoring her. "no" just helped to underline which behavior is inappropriate. When you play a lot of things are going on and so it helps to "pick" the wrong behavior. I have to say I was very surprised by the two of your comments. It seems to me that you prefer your dog to hump the teddy. I thought it was a strange advice to give. I do agree that all the dogs are different, and some take much more times at some stuff than others. I guess I was really surprised you were giving your example as an OK for doings humping in their spare time. I gave you a chance to explain but didn't find it any better with your second response. I found it very puzzling that you find this behavior normal. It seems that your dog can learn very quickly, mines can too. But when they don't it means I am not clear about what I am teaching them. It happens to me often and therefore I try to take few steps back and try to think "what do they think I am teaching them" rather than "how come they don't get it". It helped me heaps. Good luck.

    Humping

I am just trying to understand and help (if I can ) I think you can teach your puppy not to mouth. Mine got it after a few "no" and ignoring her straight after. Dogs have amazing control of their jaws' precision so if you are consistent they can learn this really easily. I would encourage other type of relaxing behavior rather than humping. I think sticking food in kong alike toys is great. Your puppy gets so work for his food, it's mental stimulation and involves chewing that dogs love. A lot of people say "my dogs don't like kongs", there is nothing to like about kongs if they are just kongs, but filled with food they become the best toy ever.
  16. LP my list is soooo long now but "I just have to" add it I blame my dogs though. Even when I try just a little harder they give me back so much more it's just too encouraging. Nothing else works out with such high benefits.
