Thanks everybody. We did go to the vet on Saturday. It turns out she either has a fungal infection or something (like a grass seed) stuck in her ear. The vet couldn't see anything stuck but it could have been deep enough and hard to see (according to the vet). No sign of ear mites. Her ear drum seems to be fine. She is on some medications now and doing much better, which indicates it probably was a fungal infection that Malaseb couldn't treat.

LOL, that's where I found it!!! Were you able to get any from CSS? Even though they have Thornits down on their drop down selection list for manufacturers it come up "There are no products to list in this category." Give them a call. When I called them they said they do have it in stock.

Do you have things delivered to your place? (I am working full time so I am not sure how would that work). Do you order the $50 min or can you place smaller orders?

thanks heaps! I can't see the duck frames on their website. Would you mind telling me how much they are? (you can PM me if you prefer)

Yes she does, about every second day.

That's exactly right. It started with tiny red postules and turned into scabbt dots. It's so hard to describe.... I will PM you about the herbal meds

I don't think it's flea dirt. I googled it and it just doesn't look the same. Her "dirt" looks more like tiny scabs...located on the edges of her itchy spots. (I think she licks off the scabs on the spots that's why they only stay on the edge).

My aussie shepherd has these skin problems, where her skin gets really itchy and she bites it and bites off her fur. The skin doesn't look very irritated but there is brown crust around it on the edges and the edges look brown. It seems to be very itchy, located near her anus and at the back of her leg. The one on her leg healed but not the one near her anus. I washed her with Malaseb a few times and it didn't seem to work. The vet said that the brown stuff looks a little like flea dirt, but she is on Advantix and Sentinel Spectrum, so even the vet said it wasn't very likely.... Then the vet said it could be allergies, but still couldn't explain what the brown crust was.. Any ideas?

Pop her on the scales at the local vet. I popped in once to see how our pup was gaining weight and wasn't even seeing the vet. No problems. Though I asked nicely and we take both dogs there. If that's awkward, you can hold her, get on the scales at home, then deduct your own weight off the total. Won't be as accurate, but good enough to assess which weight range she's in. eta: What breed is she, again? and how old? great idea, thank you

LOL, thanks! She is on Advocate but I worry that maybe the last dose I gave her was too small. I haven't weighted her in a while ETA for spelling

One of my dogs has been diagnosed with ear mites a while ago. She has been put on ear drops (don't remember the name) that sort of helped but not completely. After reading some threads I also started cleaning her ears using Malaseb, and that also helped but never totally. This morning I checked her ears and one of them had brown liquid in it. I know how ear mites problem look like (brown stuff), but it was never liquid. Is it still ear mites or is it something else now? ETA She doesn't seem itchy and she doesn't scratch it. The ear doesn't smell at all and she lets me clean if without any problems.

What To Do With A Dog That Doesn't Like Raw
laffi replied to WreckitWhippet's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
does that work? I have heard that dogs like fresh much more than frozen -
:) :) You shouldn't laugh Laffi - that dog's going to get me a visit from the RSPCA. You go to find him for his bath and carry this cringing quivering wreck to the laundry. Darce on the other hand is an innocent. He watches all the grooming gear go out (the other two have made themselves scarce) watches you put the apron on and when you go to pick him up, he goes "ooh shit, it's me!!" I still reckon JAG dropped him on his head a few times as a pup. ;) sorry :)
