I would like to get some feedback about Ziwipeak. I have heard that it's very rich and can cause diarrhea. Is anyone here using it as a main food? Pros/cons? Thanks!

I tried to watch these vids but unfortunately I get a message: "This is a private video. If you have been sent this video, please make sure you accept the sender's friend request." Is there a way to view them that I am not aware of?

Sorry, one more question which one should I pick: the 19mm or 25mm? It's for an australian shepherd (slightly bigger than a BC) and a golden retriever.

Orijen Is Now Avaliable In Australia
laffi replied to laffi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Nekhbet Orijen is 42% protein. The reference to 70% is the meat content. Somebody also asked what is wrong with Australian foods.Well i can answer that...They are ALL crap! Before Orijen became available i was mostly feeding raw and home cooked with a smidgen of Royal Canin(vet grade),and it irked me that i had to feed a food with such sub standard ingredients. I've been feeding my fussy tzu's orijen for around a month now and they love it and are doing well. As for the protein and kidney issues,i have many, many links debunking this theory of high protein equals kidney damage. When i get a minute i'll post them. I dont want to my first post here to be tooo over the top  Where are your links?? I need them please here is one http://www.dogaware.com/dogfeeding.html -
Just a quick update. I took my dogs to Animal Options for the titer test for my 2yo and C3 for my 1yo. I was very impressed with their service. I was informed already that my 2yo is immune, so it's great that I decided to do the titer test for her rather than over-vaccinate her. Thank you for your help everyone

I didn't realise Esther Horton did titre testing. I just drove 50km to Animal Options to have my guys done - Acupet would have been closer! Oh well. I have to say I was thrilled with the service I received at Animal Options - they did the test while I waited to save me having to come back all that distance. The results are: Cleo Hepatitis 3, Parvo 4, Distemper 3 - so we decided to giver her a C3 Ziggy Hep 4, Parvo 5, Distemper 4 - so he didn't get a vacc. They were both very brave so got ice creams when they came home. When I called Acupet (Esther Horton) they quoted me ~$200 for titer testing w/ annual checkup. So I decided to drive 50k to Animal Options anyway.

How about this Reddii - take them along and cover the crate with something, leaving a small opening. Leave a container of food and a note on top of the crate saying something like: "If I am quiet please feed me" A lot of people will be quite happy to give your girl some food if she is quiet! It works quite well... who wouldn't be quiet for a yummy treat  what a great idea!!! I will have to do it with Midge! She seems to have found her voice Maybe we can all tempt you to come this year as well!?!?!?!

I think you should first try to determine if they are playing or fighting. Mine two play and make noises like it's the last fight, but they are just playing. Sometimes it's very hard to tell the difference and people can think they are fighting.

Well I was worried too, but then I googled 'golden retriever sit obedience' and 90% of them sit like that! For example: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/ob....php?id=3694707 Can you see how the back paws/legs are open? Sort of like: /\ How would you lure to teach her to tuck them? I tried yesterday and I didn't get her to sit tucked even once. However when I lured her into crawling her paws were open at the beginning but she was slowly learning to tuck them in. I think she never learned how to tuck them in (I never did enough obedience to worry about it, but now I need it for my agility project). ETA she was always quite sloppy
-
I realized that my golden doesn't have a very tight sit. It's not a puppy sit, however her back legs/paws sort of open up and are not parallel with her body. Any ideas how to teach her to have the paws aligned and have a tight/tuck sit?
-
I always crate one when I have a one to one session (training or playing) with the other dog.
-
that looks awesome! how did you teach him that?

My dogs do the best on the grainless foods. They were on Evo for almost a year, until Orijen and Artemis bacame available here. They don't seem to like Artemis as much as Orijen, so we sticked to Orijen. They love it and do great on it (small poops and no farts). Before Evo they were on RC and the poops were big and my golden puppy was farting heaps

I'm aiming to provide alternatives to commercial prepared food . So the main meals are goign to be designed so that people can feed it to their dogs everyday if they want and the treats are literally treats. I work at a vet surgury so I have access to resources that not everyone has! So are you going to write about BARF and prey model diets?
-
I have a question about your cookbook for dogs. Are you aiming to provide a fully nutritious diet for dogs, or just cute ideas of cooked meals/treats that are not going to harm your dog but are not really for everyday feeding?
-
That's right, it will be available here in about a year.

That sounds great! What breed are they? How old are your adult ones? It sure does sound like a challenge!
