Would they retrieve the orbee ball outside the yard? If yes, then you should be able to build up from that. What worked for me (but was very slow) was to take my dog (just one at the time) outside, after I come back from work and they are very excited. I would try to play with the tug toy on the soccer field close to our house. I would tease her with it, and when she shows enthusiasm I try to throw it and chase her to it. Short tug session (couple of seconds) and go back home. So they learn that this is the time and place they can get a good play session if they are up for it. If they are not up for it we just go home. It takes a while but it does work (and don't give up and start using the squeaky toy if they don't want to tug, it's the tug toy or nothing). My main problem was that my dog wanted to sniff and got busy so I had to compete with the surroundings. If your dogs play for a more valuable toy (squeaky) outside I think you should have much easier time building up the drive for tug outside.

What is the title of the Balabanov DVD? I think it means that they toy you are using in the yard is not rewarding enough in other, more distracting environments. If your dogs work for the squeaky toy outside your yard that's already pretty good. So I guess you want them to tug outside your yard and they don't?

Do you have a pic of these? I would like to try to make some myself Would you mind sharing with us how do you continue to build up drive? Do you mean the Leerburg exercise from the Drive and Grip DVD where he turns fast in circles with a toy?

By cooking the food your are depleting it from important nutrients. Why don't you just feed raw? (so much better than the "doggy stew"). She doesn't need the rice btw. I would NEVER microwave ANY bones, even to warm it up. Seems to me like you are feeding her as if she was a human baby not a carnivore that she is.

Adaa, Agility Dog Ass Of Australia
laffi replied to LilBailey's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
This is the why: The reason is it hasn't grown further, people in Victoria haven't taken on the idea of running ADAA competitions and/or establishing an ADAA club/group. The Board, a long time ago, realised that ADAA would not succeed or grow unless there was, at the least, a nucleus of people prepared to undertake and promote the association. In addition, in Victoria there is already another (possibly two I think) Agility organisation, so in addition to the Kennel Club, we would also be competing with those organisations for interest and support. -
Professional Advice On Raw/barf Diets. Who To Contact?
laffi replied to Snuffle's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Heart is not offal, it's a muscle (meat part of the diet). People add it when the meaty bones don't have a lot of meat on them (like chicken frames for example). Your dog doesn't need any pasta (or any grains for that matter). Prey model diet is basically feeding your dog whole animal just what wolves would eat in the wild (so all the meat, bones and all the organs). -
Cavandra I assume this was a typo you ment "the more shots the more immunity." I am going to take a wild guess :D and say that she wrote exactly what she meant.

Is far as I know ADAA originally started in QLD and slowly expanded to NSW. I will ask Cathy (ADAA president and also my agility instructor) how come they have not reached more states. -
Poor thing

How about Interceptor Spectrum to cover the heartworm and the major intestinal worms? Or if you are not in a tick area you can just use Advocate for worms (heartworm and intestinal ones) and fleas. You can also use heartguard monthly, but this will only cover the heartworm, so you will have to add something like Drontal to it. ... basically there is a lot of options out there and it's for you and your vet to decide what suits you best I would strongly advise against the yearly injection against the heartworm.

Lupine has some really nice, girly ones as well.

Agility Training Books & Dvds
laffi replied to poodlefriend's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I agree CleanRun is great. My club bases their training on Susan Garrett's (success with one jump, crate games DVDs as well as her books) and Greg Derett's (agility foundation training, great dog shame about the handler DVDs) methods. -
Well my dogs are on Advantix but one of them is slightly allergic to it. I can't use the tick collars because they play all the time and swim a lot too. So I am just exploring different options How about Permoxin sprays? It kills ticks on contact. Dogs treated with homeopathic nosodes die of Parvo etc. The problem with homeopathics is that there's usually no research to support their efficacy. Putting your faith in an untested product be it pharmacuetical, homeopathic or whatever is not my cup of tea. She has a slight allergic reaction to Permoxin as well. I am not going to give up Advantix for an untested, homeopathic product. I have a PhD in physics and am very skeptical about pseudo sciences as well . I am just asking if anyone used it and what was their experience. I am intrigued how it *might* work.

Has anyone used this product ? Does it really protect from paralysis from ticks?

It's probably a little far but Rowan (Animal Options) is highly recommended: http://www.animaloptions.com.au/ (I actually get 1h to get there but it's definitely worth it).

The Correct Way To Walk Dogs On Leash?
laffi replied to White_Shadow's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I don't think there is such a thing as *the correct* way to walk the dog on leash, unless it's for competitive obedience. I also don't belive that their position while walking has anything to do with the "pack order". Mines are mostly in front of me and as long as they are not pulling it's all good. -
Yes we do that too. I thought they were ready to progress to the jump.... maybe not I just think they don't track my progress until they already lend and that's why they spin (because they expected me on the other side).
-
Are you teaching it over jumps? Is your dog spinning on the take off or landing side of the jump? They spin on the landing side.
