I would try a different brand. My dogs didn't do well on RC either . They did MUCH better on Artemis (the best out of all the dry foods we have tried, before we switched completely to raw)

Healthy skin, silky and shiny coat, bright eyes, small, not stinky poos, high energy level I feed prey model diet.

Bestcare "holistic" Food
laffi replied to all that glitters's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well the Eagle Pack is getting too hard for me to source and it's becoming annoying, and I have heard of others having their shepherds really going well on the Royal Canin Shepherd one. When comparing their German Shepherd food to the standard Giant Breed food there seems to be less grains in the Shepherd one?? I'm over Eagle Pack being unavailable a lot, I used to get it for cheaper through a friend but she can't get it now, and my local feed store has trouble, so its getting stressful thinking it might not be available when I need it, also I heard a rumor they are phasing out international supply?? Not sure on that though. Anyway I thought Royal Canin was a premium food? I can always change anyway, I will see if her condition and coat etc stay looking great, if not I can change to something else (I was thinking Artemis?) Thanks laffi! Unlucky about the limited availability of EPH. RC is good. My dogs did OK on RC, but nothing special. When I win RC at comps I give it way because I don't think it's that great. I found Artemis much much better. Having said that, see how she goes on it, as every dog is different -
Bestcare "holistic" Food

Anyone can call their food holistic... doesn't really mean much. I can't comment on the quality of BestCare without seeing the ingredients. Just curious though why you switched from EPH to RC? I think EPH is much better (in terms of ingredients) -
Are you using and tick preventive? (sorry to ask but I always want to know if one of them is ineffective ;) My dog had a tick when on Advantix, 1 week after the application (!) so I stopped using it and switched to Proban) I only had her on a herbal remedy called tick stop which is supposed to help them build up an immunity to ticks over time. I had forgotton to put a new tick collar on her. I don't trust the spot ons and will be putting her onto proban tablets and permoxin washes from now on. A worthwhile reminder to all that everyone needs to be extra diligent with tick prevention. I think the tick stop stuff probably helped her combat the tick more efficiently but it certainly isn't enough - I knew that but had just forgotten to put the tick collar on her, I did have one kicking around but had forgotten about it. My last dog was on a tick collar and I think we had her on a spot on as well (I can't quite remember) and she didn't survive. The vet mentioned that if using a tick collar the killtix ones seem to do a better job of keeping the ticks away. That's good to know.

I would half her food Good luck!

Good luck with Ella. I found a paralysis tick on my dog last year, it was half fed when I removed. Luckily my dog never showed symptoms. Is Ella at the vets now? Is she showing any symptoms? I never had to take my dog to the vets. I called them and told them I found a tick and they only wanted to see her if she started showing symptoms.

I have shaped send away to the box and it took me about 1-2 weeks. (I have not done the directed jumping from the box) I would not run with the dog, as it's a very different image for the dog to run with you and to make a decision to leave you and go for the box. Having said all that I am an agility person and just train obedience for fun....

Not sure which table I will be at - may have to find out whether we can get BAD and ADCQ together since many of the members seem to be the same! :p Yeah, good idea about joining the ADCQ and BAD tables. Btw Steve is counting you in the ADCQ one (you are on his official/confirmed list according to the adcq group email).

AD, aren't you sitting with the ADCQ table at ADAA GP (Just emailed Steve to ask if I can join the cool kids' table too )

I fee shape most of the stuff with my dogs (agility and obedience). With Midge (my aussie) I use NRM markers. With Laffi (my golden) I don't say anything, she would switch off very easily if I used them too much (which is still very little). To be honest, I consider a NRM a punishment (since it's telling your dog a reward is NOT coming) so I try not to use them too much. I don't consider them kind for the dog.
