Who Wants To Order From Clean Run?
laffi replied to laffi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
LP is a toy expert! I contacted CR to ask if they are going to have any free shipping soon. Will let you know as soon as they reply -
SG in her new 2x2 weaving DVD explains how to work on fancy footwork for weaving. Basically you offset the weaves a little, so they form channel-like weaves. It speeds up the dog and teaches them to use single steps. However I would say this would work for bigger dogs. Smaller dogs just cannot weave like this.

Great idea LP! Please add your names to this list  I will be placing on order next week (unless CR has some free shipping offer soon). -
If you run courses/compete with your dog you do have a handling system Handling system is basically your decision how and where you handle your dog, how and where you execute your crosses etc. You see, I still often ask other people for ideas on this while walking the course  I certainly could not tell you general handling rules as set out in GD system or others, as I have not developed these yet. Within the same handling system there are always few possibilities about how the run the same course. GD could do RC or FC for the same obstacle and it could still be consistent with his system. So asking the people how they run the course doesn't mean you don't have a handling system. Handling system is more the understanding you have with your dog. Seems like you are not aware of it but I am sure your dog is Of course I have some handling ideas in place, but I would not say it is a system atm. Have not really done much serp or threadle handling, so not sure how I will tackle those yet. gotcha

If I were you I would try to find youtubes from agility world championships and analyze how differently handlers approached the same courses. Then you will know a little more what it means to have a handling system. A place to start would be to watch Canada Agility Team as they posted heaps of their runs there. Most of the Canada Agility Team were influenced by SG/GD but if you try to find Europeans running these courses you will see how different they were.

I only put the behavior on cue once I get full understanding, speed and enthusiasm

Finally got to watch it totally agree with what Laffi said - make sure you are facing in the direction your dog is facing - as this is our 'end behaviour' when running an agility course Put some non-slip stuff on the board - you should be able to find some stuff from bunnings or Kmart pretty cheap - this will make him go even faster Rev him up before letting him loose.... "readddyyyyy settt...... GO" and release him to get his 2o2o He's doing really well - you should be so proud I have been doing as both you and Laffi said but I still dont think he really knows what he is doing. Last night i walked with him along side it and kept walking...and so did he. It seems he only stops in 2o2o just cos thats just where i stop. I am finding it very difficult working without giving him a command and my partner thinks its just stupid! He thinks I should give a command and then shape it without a command later on because he just doesnt think Jordi will understand it...Just like with obedience. When at the heel position, after a while the dog eventually sits next to you by himself... Huff...i dunno, its too hard! I agree with everything people said so far. Here I would like to explain why not to give a command. I think we agree that the dog is still learning and therefore his behavior is not the end behavior you want. Let's say you do call it 'tomato' and I am your dog . If you say 'tomato' now I would think: "hmmm yes I know, it's something to do with the plank and stopping when you stop". You will have hard time reshaping it if you start putting it on cue now and the dog has a wrong idea of what you are trying to teach him. In obedience it works coz the dog is already in heel doing the right thing so you are not shaping it. As for stopping on the end few things helped me: 1) the target plate (I did with it with one of my dogs) 2) releasing the dog from the plank (so the dog has to wait in 2o2o until released): I think it's the most important step as it lets your dog know that stepping on the 2o2o is not the end of the exercise. The end is to stay there until released.

I agree! For beginner dogs who don't tug yet I recommend Sheepy Octupus. For more advanced tuggers I think Sheepy Tail Tug is almost as exciting and much more durable. -

There is a couple of toys I want to order from Clean Run and I was wondering if there is anyone else who feels a need to purchase stuff from CR? I am in NSW so people in Sydney wouldn't have to pay for the shipping as I am sure we could meet up somewhere

Laffi is like Kaos too, only recently she started tugging in the club (so it took us a year ) With Laffi I used two ways to get her to tug: 1) shaping the pull just like what you are doing and also 2) playing with toys she likes so eventually she grabs them and pulls. I got her to tug with me in our yard about a year ago. I had hard time getting it outside the yard. I found that the food toys are OK but they never get her excited enough to really tug like she does with her sheepy toys. However the food toys (like tug-it) helped HEAPS to get her to pull in more stressful situations (outside our home) and then we progressed to her fave toys (that she tugs hard on at home) quite fast. She is not yet where I would like her to be but I feel like we are getting there.

ohhh ....Maybe I should have got a Border Collie, my dog doesnt have enough drive..... I disagree :p !!! your dog looks like he has really good drive already just keep on working on it (heaps of play training) and you will have your own crazy BC LOL, thanks Laffi ....He likes to play (sometimes, LOL) but wont tug, I am now trying to teach him to tug by letting go and praising him heaps when he pulls on the toy the slightest bit...its working slowly :D It should work for sure . I found that the real sheepy tug toys from Clean Run were by miles the best to teach tug ;) I would say to experiment with different toys and see what your dog likes.
