Just a Dog From time to time people tell me, “Lighten up. It’s just a dog.” or “That’s a lot of money for just a dog.” They don’t understand the distance traveled, time spent or costs involved for “Just a dog”. Some of my proudest moments have come about with “Just a dog”. Many hours have passed with my only company being “Just a dog” and not once have I felt slighted. Some of my saddest moments were brought about by “just a dog”. In those days of darkness , the gentle touch of “Just a dog” provided comfort and purpose to overcome the day. If you, too, think it’s “Just a dog”, you will probably understand phrases like “Just a friend” or “just a sunrise” or “Just a promise”. “Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. “Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of “Just a dog” I will rise early, take long walks, and look longingly to the future. For me and folks like me, it’s not “Just a dog”. It’s an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. “Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday people can understand it’s not “Just a dog.” It’s the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “Just a man ” or “Just a woman”. Sources please? This is mostly myth, caused by the fact that gold/goldens cockers were a popular colour back in the 70's and 80's, and everyone jumped on board breeding them, in particular back yarders, who in turn sell to people who have no idea how to handle and raise them.

She needs to be aware that cockers can have nasty hidden recessive genes that can produce kidney disease that will kill a pup anytime from birth up to two years old. ARHN (Autosomal Recessive Hereditary Nephropathy) can be tested for and NEEDS to be tested for, and another nasty occasionally seen in cockers is Renal Dysplasia, which CANNOT be tested for in Aus, therefore a thorough knowledge of health in the lines behind both sire and dam is essential. There is also PRA in cockers, and the parents MUST be tested for this as well prior to breeding, otherwise the pups she will be producing could go blind by the time they are 5-6 years old. Ask her what she will do if she sells a pup to someone, and they come back a bit down the track upset and angry because their pup has endured months of pain and expensive treatment for a hereditary disease that could have been prevented with testing. Could be a whole lot more trouble than just an empty wallet following a caesarian.

Hey MM. Jed's laptop finally succumbed to fire damage, and she does not always have access where she is staying. I believe that Cait is making sure the physios give her a good workout also, so she is pretty worn out. I am sure she will come and tell you how she is going when she can get near a computer :D This is the really hard part for her now, having no home base of her own, and still with lots of healing to do, to get herself back to independance. Keep those happy and healthy thoughts coming, I know she will appreciate them and need them for a long time to come yet.

Oh, thank goodness you started a new thread. The other one is such an epic!! Testament to the amazing following you have here, and the wisdom and advice you have shared over the years. Face it Jed, you are DOL legend Now, what to do with the rest of the beanies I have been collecting for you

Hi guys, a message for you from Jed.. She wants to thank you all so much for your generosity. All the donations will be of great benefit to help her get back on her feet and she appreciates it all enormously. One of her cats is in need of a lot of medical treatment and surgery to aid her recovery from her burns and injuries also, so that will help her too. Also, Jed continues to be overwhelmed by your support. It means a great deal to her, and is boosting her spirits as she recovers. She now has her laptop set up and running in her room, and is reading DOL, but cannot post due to her hand burns, and that fact that she gets tired very easily. It may be a while, but she will tell her story when she can She is grieving for her three boxers, Beth, Roxy and Paris, her two cockers, Magnus and Meg, the three boxer babies, and her one 4 week old cav baby, who she rescued but she still died..

I was not on the receiving end, I was on the giving end No more from me, as Jed wants to give you her own update when she is able to.

Jed is overwhelmed by the support she has been getting, and I will pass your messages on to her again today. Now I must be off as I have a foot massage and a manicure to attend to!

hi guys, I have a message for you from Jed....she said to tell that Toohey came up and we had a few grogs and she had a cry. Umm, not quite true about the grog, but she is doing well. A few more weeks in hospital yet, but she will share her story when she can.

Jed is slowly improving, a bit better each day Don't forget the auctions are still running, and I see Steve has a heap of great stuff available at the moment. Thanks for all the support, I know it will mean a lot to Jed.
