I waited over 3 years for my pup-till they had a litter. I filled in an extensive questionaire and spoke every few months on the phone with them and via email. I know they googled all properties of applicants. This year when pups were born I went interstate to stay with them for 3 days. I had a wonderful time with all their dogs and pups. Even after this I had to indicate which pups I was interested in. They said there was no guarantees. They would have the ultimate say. I contacted other breeders to see if this was normal and they said yes and to be patient. Finally after 8 weeks of torture and the longest 8 weeks of my life they told me which pup would be mine. He was then flown to me. These breeders could have charged me more or sold him to other breeders or kept him to breed. Instead they honoured their promise from 3 years earlier. I am in contact with them and speak to the and email regularly. I have a lifetime of help and I know if something terrible happened to me they would always take him back. They are exceptional and that is piece of mind for me also. Well worth the wait :)

My pup had a dual sire and was DNA tested to determine the father. He is also limited register. I am in NSW and my breeder is in QLD. I got the DNA test results within 2 weeks of him being with me-pup was just over 10 weeks old. I received his limited register papers when he was around 12 weeks old. They were in contact to let me know when I would receive both and emailed me copies of DNA tests prior to arriving in mail. Try to contact them as it seems a long time. Good luck :)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Not Walking
MelissaS replied to Milobee's topic in General Dog Discussion
My friend had a Staffy Jo who would do this and even refuse to leave the house. He won't budge at all. Jo was taken to the vet and checked for everything, they couldn't find anything wrong. Nothing traumatic had happened to him whilst my friend had owned him. He was a rescue however and very scared of storms and loud noises. I was warned about this quirk when I babysat him for a few weeks, I had never seen him do it and he loved my dogs and being at my place. At times I couldn't even get him to go into they yard or budge from where he would sit let alone go for a walk. He would eat and then return to his spot. No amount of coaxing even with a lead on could get him just out to the yard. He never toileted inside, I left the back door open at all times, so although I didn't see him go outside once in 24 hours he must have at some stage. He did forget once when my pack all ran outside to a noise and he ran outside too and then looked around like whoops and ran back in. Then there were days he ran around all over the place and outside. He had only been vet checked just before he came to my place and her vet didn't believe it was a physical issue but anxiety or a past trauma. I know it is incredibly frustrating for his owner. I was lucky I was just babysitting as I found ignoring him when he refused was the best. I hope your Staffy is OK and nothing shows up at the vet and that it is just a phase. Good luck :) -
Man Arrested For Dragging Dog Behind Car In Wa
MelissaS posted a topic in Dog Cruelty and Abuse News
So horrendous. Hope karma gets this poor excuse of a human being gets hit with karma big time. Poor dog the salt water and tea tree oil would have been torturous http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/wickham-man-dragged-dog-behind-car-20141001-10ofdl.html#ixzz3ErGYhYxR Wickham man 'dragged dog behind car' Date October 1, 2014 9 reading nowRead later Liam Ducey Reporter View more articles from Liam Ducey Follow Liam on Twitter Email Liam submit to redditEmail articlePrintReprints & permissions The Pilbara dog is recovering after sustaining several injuries. Photo: Ebonnie Spriggs / ABC News A 35-year-old man has been charged after he was allegedly seen dragging his dog behind his vehicle while reaching speeds of up to 70km/h. Between 2.30pm and 3pm on Tuesday, police say the man pulled the dog behind his vehicle through the streets of the Pilbara town of Wickham for about five kilometres on bitumen road and back tracks. He then took the dog to the beach where, in an alleged attempt to ease its burns, he put the dog in sea water. He then took the dog home and allegedly covered it in a mixture of tea tree oil and water. Police say the salt water and oil caused undue suffering and aggravated the injuries. Roebourne police arrested the man and took the dog to Karratha Veterinary Hospital, where it is being treated for severe burns to about 20 per cent of its body, including its eyes, ears, mouth and paws, as well as bleeding. The injuries are serious but are not believed to be life threatening. The man has been bailed to appear in the Karratha Magistrates Court on October 22. Hi there I was hoping for some advice/ opinions. My puppy had his second vaccination today at 11 weeks. It was a C5 . I was told he was safe to go to puppy school which starts tomorrow night by the vet nurse who runs it. Today the vet I go to who is not the same vet practice that is running the puppy school has said do not take him under any circumstance as it is not safe. She said I need to wait a minimum of 2 weeks. I called the vet's who is running the puppy school and spoke to the vet nurse who said it was safe and they thoroughly clean the waiting room etc... She said they had run the puppy school safely for years with puppies only having their 12 week C5. I have sought the advice of 2 other vet nurses who are divided in their opinion also One runs a puppy school elsewhere and said it will be fine and it's a crucial socialisation period and to take the pup to puppy school. The other vet nurse says wait 2 weeks. Puppy school is held in the waiting room of the vet. So what is the opinion on here? I just want to do the right thing :)

Important Request For Allerzoit And Grumpette
MelissaS replied to Brandiandwe's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, it's sad I always have an inward cringe when people find out we have dogs, and then ask what sort.... the response is either resoundingly positive, or terribly negative! I grew up with them from around the age of 4 - my earliest memories include the rottweilers that we had back then.... riding in a cart pulled by Bacchus.... sneaking into the whelping room to peek at a whelping that was taking place.... good memories :) I hate this too. I hate the look some people get when they ask what breed and make it obvious they disapprove. I have even had people insist my boy Bronson is a Lab because he is a nice dog. Stereotypes can be hard. The photos in this thread are soooo beautful. It is too much beauty and cuteness in one thread -
Just wanted to say I'm so sorry. Hugs to everyone who misses our loves at rainbow bridge.

Rspca Katoomba Shelter To Close
MelissaS replied to gillbear's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Yes, it's bad and there is so much going on behind the scenes. Coleman said the RSPCA in General not just Katoomba is phasing out their shelters and hoping to focus on cruelty investigations and placing animals in foster situations... The room absolutely erupted with disgust. It was pointed out they should tell the information to people donating so they know " the direction" they are heading in. I felt sick when I left the meeting as so much deception has been revealed and ruthless unethical business decisions. No concern or compassion for the animals or people has been shown. shameful and heartbreaking. -

Rspca Katoomba Shelter To Close
MelissaS replied to gillbear's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
The land was left to the people of the blue Mountains by a lady who died but had to be registered with RSPCA Australia- not locally. Apparently it was built from scratch solely by locals and all the locals put their heart and soul and money into it. They have also given money they thought was for the running of the local shelter and the RSPCA has taken it all and absorbed it into the national fund. Lost to The Blue Mountains. The RSPCA made sure all assets and revenue from the Blue Mountains was registered with RSPCA Australia, no individual claim to funds or assets were allowed RSPCA also sold off all the local RSPCA shops after refusing to restock and making it hard for volunteers and running them into the ground. The shops were bought originally with money raised in The Blue mountains but again, the RSPCA as a whole organisation has claimed the money and won't put the money back into the community up here. They sold then shops for 4 and 5 times the price they were bought for. At the meeting it came to light the RSPCA has millions of dollars available to them. They have a business directive and have no interest in our community or keeping the shelter operating. That was obvious from what Steve Coleman did say and documentation. It's about money and selling the land. They said their business is changing direction and operating the shelters is not a priority. The community is devastated here because the land was left to The Blue Mountains in the original documents from the person who died and donated. The RSPCA can take it on a legal loophole. Ethically when you hear the whole case there is absolutely no doubt the shelter and all the money donated was MEANT for the Blue Mts shelter. It's all so sad and complicated and very political the RSPCA has not been providing info to people or sending newsletters and has been withholding information. Staff are not allowed to talk or were not allowed to attend the meeting. The Council are also devastated and do not know what they are going to do- but explained they cannot stop it closing. One of the members of the Council said they do not know what they are going to do and they have very little time. The Blue mountains shelter also serves for wildlife and horses and larger animals. When asked what are we going to do about them the Council were currently speaking to Hawkesbury and other pounds. All hours away. There will be no help for large animals or natives. They are expecting the local vets to deal with it and foster carers. Most carers up here are very cash poor and already stretched. We have literally gone back 30 years. The locals are so upset and a lot of people feel we have been forgotten in the system and taken advantage of. People who have donated feel deceived as the money is not being used here. There were over 100+ people in that meeting who vowed never to give a cent again to them if they shut this shelter. Also media there who will do stories. One elderly man was leaving them $40 000 in his will. Not now. There are a lot of competent people desperately fighting this but the decision seems to be made. It's going to impact animals up here on so many levels and more animals may be dumped as there will be nowhere to surrender. I hope Socares can somehow strike an agreement. To expect the public to foster care and vets to deal with it all or for people to drive more than 2 hours away when the facility is sitting there and been built by the locals is heartbreaking. Very sad and very unethical. Politics and money aside it is the animals who are going to suffer as a result of the shelter closing.
