Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...
Flashsmum replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep, they do unless they've passed the Greyhound RAcing Vic (GRV) assessment program, and are wearing a green GAP collar. I've actually seen a few greys without muzzles on around here, which don't wear the green collar, so I'm assuming the owners are being naughty.. Just to clarify - the requirement that they wear muzzles is because the legislation considers greyhounds to be "livestock" rather than companion animals, as they're bred to race. That's all :) Thanks for the clarification, I wasn't aware of that! I have been told many different reasons for the muzzling, including that they have been "blooded" -

Greyhound - he must need heaps of walking (no, less than the great dane!), he must be vicious (when he was muzzled, now has a Greenhound collar), he's too skinny. Great dane - she must eat a lot, she's too big for you to walk, and she's not a dane, she's a weimaraner (she's actually a small blue great dane), must be good guard dog (will smooch for cuddles!). The earlier poster that asked about greys wearing muzzles, in NSW it's an old law that has only recently been changed to allow them to be assessed for a Greenhound collar, and this entitles them to be muzzle free when on lead. My understanding of the law is that it was because the greyhounds were taught to chase prey when being taught to race, so it was to stop them attacking small animals when out and about - although on lead, this would not be an issue I would have thought, and also they tend to nip when they are excited in race. Harry used to nip us on the bum when he first came to us, but we taught him not to, so no issue now. Our Harry has no perceptible prey drive (that's probably why he flunked training!) so him getting a Greenhound collar wasn't too hard. He's also the most tolerant dog I have met. When we are out and about and people, especially kids, approach him, he just stands there and let's them pat and cuddle him, and has never reacted badly to being approacehd by any person or animal. -
He has good taste!!

Help Please. Getting My Baby Back ... And Panicking !
Flashsmum replied to Aso's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sounds like you're all set. The best of luck with your reunion. It will will be good to have hime back with you. -
My parents have a rescue malamute, this is their second one. The first (Max) was a very large mal, and gorgeous, and had health issues. The current one (Mali) is smaller, and has no health issues at this stage, and he's nearly 6yo. As others have said, the best bet is a reputable breeder that health tests. It saces a lot of heartache in the long run :)

He'll be watching over you, and waiting 'til you meet again.

That is gorgeous! What a wonderful thing. -
Our greyhound has eaten it, we don't know how much as the packet was empty when we found it. The vet made him throw up, gave him a vitamin K injection, and he was on vitamin K tablets for a couple of weeks. He recovered well, and is still a clown!

I fed my dogs this morning, and whilst I was putting their bowls down I said "now this morning we have a serving of kibble, marinated with sardine juices and plump sardines, with a dash of water, enjoy". I then thought, Oh sh?t, hope the neighbours aren't listening! Nothing wrong wiht me :)

Hi people, We (hubby and I) have booked the Pinebowl Track at Nowra (greyhound racing track) for the 31st March, 2012, at 2.00pm for a great dane and greyhound meet. We would like to meet other owners of great danes and pet greyhounds in the area. If you are close, please come and meet for an afternoon of socialising with your dogs. There is an undercover area in case of rain (or sunshine!) and toilet facilities. Bring a picnic if you feel like it, and come along. Jaana

Do You Need To Be So Precious? Doggie
Flashsmum replied to voloclydes's topic in General Dog Discussion
But it's sooooo soooooooorrreeee. Harry the greyhound is good at that too, until something else interesets him, and then he forgets. I don't call him girly, just a wuss. -
So sorry! When Flash was in her last days, I found that she would eat grilled fish fingers. I tried everything I could think of, and this was all she would have. Being a great dane, she had about 5 - 6 every 4 hours as she had to eat to be able to give her the painkillers she was on. Good luck and hugs.

Glad to see she's back safe. -
Running up the hallway to the door is the best Harry will do. I'm sure if we got broken into, he'd wander over for a cuddle. Whitney (great dane) might bark, if she felt like it, maybe. She wants cuddles as well, so I think she's just asking them to come to her for a rub! Although, with her bark, not many take her up on the offer.
