Thanks, I thought that maybe we were just paranoid dog owners! It seemed that we were the odd ones out, but I feel better now!

We went camping on the weekend with our dogs, and my parents and their pooch. It was a campground on private property which allows dogs. What we found amazing was the fact that other campers went to bed and left their dogs outside for the night, and therefore the dogs roamed around visiting other camps. Our dogs slept in our tent, and my parents' dog was in their motorhome, and we brought them out durng the night on leashes for a pee break. Before going to bed, we'd put our dogs into the tent, and were sitting aroud the fire having a glass of wine, when this dog walked straight up to us to say hello. He was a beautiful natured red kelpie, and sat when we spoke to him. He was lovely, but wanted to hang around with us!! When I told him to go home, he went, but kept looking back at us. I felt sorry for it, thinking he just wanted company. (I know I'm a sook ) There was another little mixed breed dog, and she kept walking close to our camp and growling and barking at us. The owners didn't call her back, but when I took her back, said not to worry, she's just territorial. I was amazed that she wasn't worried about the fact that we had three big dogs with us (who just ignored the little one) and she had no idea whether they would react badly to being told off by her dog (luckily they didn't care). Is this a common thing? The places we have been to before were pretty out of the way, or more organised campgrounds where there were stricter rules. We were surprised that people weren't more aware of what their dogs were doing, and pretty casual about them going for wander, sepecially as it's surrounded by bush where the dogs could easily go off chasing something. Or are we just too fussy about keeping our dogs close? Besides that, we had a great time! Sorry for the whinge.

Need To Find A Good Verterinary Surgeon

Good luck with it all. I don't have any recommendations as I'm nowhere near there, but sending get better vibes to Tonka and strength to you. -
I listened to it last night, and Whitney (great dane) came out of the bedroom, head turning and listening intently. Harry (greyhoound) slept through it! Sounds plausible it being made by a man, although I was on the laptop without porper speakers connected, so didn't hear any words. Hope the police took note!

Our greyhound and great dane both do it. They are not at all dominant in their nature, so I believe it is just cuddles. They especially do it when getting pats, but also just when we are standing still, they'll just come and lean for a while.

Drooling After Anaesthetic? - Update, Rip My Little Man

So sorry to see this. Hugs He knows you loved him. -
I agree, read Rebanne's suggestions. From a personal experience: I love the breed, and so does all my family now! They are awesome dogs. The temperament of the two I have had both had/have a brilliant temperament. It depends on their breeding (reputable breeder is a must) and upbringing. A well bred and trained dane is a joy to live with, a badly bred or untrained one could be a nightmare. They are very stong, so manners are a must. We feed ours breakfast, generally a chicken frame or bone for lunchish, and a dinner. Rather than feeding once a day, we split the food into meals, in the hope of preventing bloat, although that's not guaranteed. It is super important to feed them carefully whilst they are growing, with the correct ratios, to keep the growth slow and steady and try to avoid growth/bone issues. The breeder will be able to advise you. Health issues are varied. Bloat and torsion are a risk, as with all large chested breeds. Other than that, growth issues are something to be careful of. Arthritis can happen in older danes, although our nearly 7 yo girl is fairly good, our previous dane had it by 2.5 yrs. Other than that, they are wonderful dogs, and I am biased :)

Thank you!!! Love them! The great danes have cropped ears, apart from one . I'll have to save this site for pressies (for me - and others!)

It's too late now. There is no punishment for children these days. They are given a warning What they need is a good old fashioned spanking so they can't sit down for a few days and then they might get the message but society doesn't allow that any more. If parents cannot teach their kids right from wrong before age 5, there is no hope after that as there is no effective punishment allowed, no matter how bad the crime. Kids do as they like because there are no consequences any more. It's wrong that there no consequences so often. I'm glad I don't have kids, I'd be terrified of them being realy bad and not being able to a damn thing about it. Our parents never spanked us, but we were punished and taught right from wrong, and there were always consequences for misbehaviour, so we learnt.

thundercat - some danes are lazy, some aren't. We've had one that was pretty lazy, and the one we have now is more energetic and needs room to romp. Our greyhound, on the other hand, is quite lazy and as long as he has a comfy bed, gets walked (not even every day) and is nice and warm, he's happy. He is eight years old, though. Even the lazy ones would need walks and some chance to move around, but in the US a lot of danes seem to live in apartments, so I'm sure it could be done. samoyedman - greyhound!! I think joint ownership could work ,as long as it was someone with the same ethics and ideas on dog care, and you trust them completely.

So sorry for your loss. It's been two and half years since we lost Flash, and the pain does ease, but never leaves. 14 is a huge thing for dane, he did well!

Whether the parents are punished or not, the children should definately be punished to the full extent of the law. They need to learn how to live in society before it's too late.

So good to see she is with you again!

Hopefully it will be removed with no further problems. Good vibes coming you and her way (did that makes sense?).

Oooooh - that is a lovely outcome. So happy for you all.

We had a doberman years ago that jumped out of the boat with us kids for a swim, and Dad had to save him as he sank. Our greyhound seemingly can't swim either. We were camping at the beach, took both dogs out in the water. DH carried Harry out as he didn't want walk out with us, but when he let Harry go, he just floated onto his side, and started to sink. DH had to pick him back up and hold onto him. He didn't seem to hate the water, but didn't swim.

Flash was on daily Feldene after her bladder cancer, but it was ALWAYS given with a meal. I'd have been in a mad panic if she'd eaten a lot of it. Still glad all is good!!!

So glad they're okay. Now I'm all teared up over dogs and a human I haven never met! :)

We sometimes go to http://www.moruya-airport-campground.com/index.html with ours dogs. We don't go at peak time, so it may be busy then, but we've found it good.

Hope all is well this morning, my thoughts are with you and your dogs. Hugs.

I think the cool coast would still work. Our dogs lie on the cool mats evenwhen they wear them.
