I've spoken to the vet on duty, and she has assured me that he is very stable, and hopefully will continue to improve. He has peed and had a little drink. We just have to wait and see that no toxins are in his system, and that he keeps on improving. Kirislin - I'll have to find out if they stitched it or not. I didn't even think about it last night when I took him in, and it hasn't been mentioned. Thanks for all the well wishes. It's comforting to know that others understand what we are going through. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

Last night Harry bloated. He'd been restless and was throwing up, so I rang the vet about 10pm and he thought (as did I) that he had an upset stomach from eating a manky old bone he found. The vet said that I'd done all I could (painkillers and maxolon)and to keep an eye on him. After about 1am I noticed he was dry retching and much more restless and panting. Also, when I looked at him from the top, the back part of his rib cage looked like it was stretched out. I called the vet and he said to bring him in. Harry collapsed as we walked in to the surgery. He was x-rayed, the vet called a nurse in an sent me home. The vet rang at 4am and told me the surgery had gone as well as possible, again at 6am that he was stable, and again at 8am to say that all his levels are good and he has come through this part ok. He was finally going home for a sleep. I've called but am waiting for the day's vet to call me back. The nurse said the Harry is resting and stable, so fingers crossed he will pull through.

Told She Was Desexed.. Find Out She Isn't. Accidental Mating

Not all spayed bitches are tattooed, our Whitney isn't. Good luck! -
That's a dangerous precedent to set! I had a look on the LGAT website, but couldn't find the proposal. Do you have a link?

Ah, I had heard rumours, but never confirmed it. We boarded our dogs in April 2012, so would have been the previous people.

Nowra Area Peeps-who Was At The Dragon Boats?
Flashsmum replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wanted to take the dogs for a walk there, but we had visitors for the weekend, and they weren't overly interested . ETA: Can't spell -
I think our Harry has a sense of humour (or he's repeating behaviour that causes us to react favourably). He does this funny little dance after he's run in from the yard. He slides on the rug in the hallway, follows through to a bedroom, and then comes into the lounge room with what looks like a grin on his face and does his little dance. He also varies this at different times. If we are stressed or upset, he seems to do it more, as if he's trying to cheer us up. A lot is probably learned behaviour the produces a desired reaction, but I like to think he's having fun with us.

We (hubby and I)took our great dane and greyhound when we voted. We were on our way to somewhere else, and one held the dogs out side whilst the other voted. There were a couple of small dogs there as well. We had quite a few people come over with their children asking if the kids could say hello as our dogs were very calm, and it would be good for the kids to see that big dogs aren't scary. The only things they had to be wary of was being leant on or licked. If our dogs were reactive, we would have left them in the car with one waiting with them, but as they are both very calm and appreciative of cuddles, we felt they would be fine. Also, we were there in the afternoon, so not very many people around, and it was at a school that is a bit out of the way, so much quieter. We don't take our dogs everywhere, and don't feel that we should be allowed to, but we make a judgement call on the situation at the time, and try to do the right thing by our dogs, other people and the environment. Whatever is appropriate at the time.

Not looking at this until I get home!

Pardon my ignorance but greyhounds seem to be the only dogs I see muzzled, I can remember them wearing muzzles when I was quite young, is there some special reason for this or is it an historical ruling that has something to do with greyhound racing? I've never seen a report of a greyhound in a dog attack. I've never been rushed by one while walking my dog, I have a whole list of rushers who should be wearing muzzles and their owners handcuffs but greyhounds aren't on the list. A friend of mine owns two greyhounds and they are the most laid back friendly dogs. In NSW they must wear muzzle if out of the yard, unless they have Greenhound collar, which means they have been through an assessment process to ensure they are safe without a muzzle. It is an old law that still exists, as the can have high prey drive, and racing dogs are used to chasing a lure. I'm sure there's a whole lot more to it as well! Our Harry has a Greenhound collar, so doesn't need to wear a muzzle in public, but he still has people avoiding him occasionally, although not as often as when he was muzzled. He is the sweetest soul, and doesn't even chase the cat next door when she comes to explore our yard, or the chooks when they are on walkabout!

Budget Bed Idea For Bigger Dogs
Flashsmum replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's what we have for Harry (greyhound) and Whitney (great dane) has a single bed! Although most of the time they are both on the single bed if we are all sitting out there. These are their outside (in the sunroom, 'cos they never have to sleep outside proper) beds, and inside we have beds I bought from Costco ages ago, and bought a sinlge bed mattress, got it cut in half and put them in the covers when they got too flat. It's just big enough for Whitney, but she sleeps all curled up anyway. -
I agree with the strangulation risk, as well, but aren't there break away type collards available? Our dogs aren't fence jumpers, so we have martingale type collars on them that were made by hubby, and I'm happy to leave them on them when we are out. I know it's not everyone's choice, but I prefer someone being able to contact me if they found my dog.

Glad that Scout is home and healing. And Koda too!

Yesterday afternoon a lady came to our fence and called to us in the backyard. She had been down at the river near us with her dog, and a brindle staffy had come over to say hello. No collar or tags. When they had gotten into the car, the fellow had followed them! They stopped near our place, saw us in the yard, and called out to us to see if we knew the dog. Thought it was a dog that lives around the corner, but when I realised this was a boy, knew it wasn't the one. She didn't know what to do, so I suggested they take it to the local RSPCA/pound and leave it in the cage there, and it would be safe. They didn't want to put into their car with their dog, so I said I would take him. I was tempted to keep him here overnight, but Harry didn't seem to take to him, so thought it was safer to get him to the RSPCA. He was such a sweetie! He didn't want to hop in the car, so hubby picked him up and he was fine. Put him in the back seat, but before I was out of our street, he had gotten to the passenger seat, and then tried to sit on my lap! I had to carry him into the cage as he just laid down and wouldn't move when I got him out of the car. I left him in the cage, filled out the paperwork and went to leave, and he whimpered after me. I sooooo wanted to take him home as he was such a nice natured dog. I called the RSPCA this morning, and they told me he had been reported missing, and the owners were on their way to pick him up!!! I am so happy he will be reunited with his family as he seemed very well cared for. I hope they put a good collar and tags on him, so that if he gets away again, he can reunited with them quicker, without having to spend the night alone is a cage

Good on you for stopping to help, and shame on the other drivers! What a scary experience for all, especially the poor dog.
