Hesapandabear - not sure if you remember me, it has been many years since I have posted on here! I am sitting here in Amsterdam with my bi-black puppy 'Guinness', born on the 28th of Feb 2012 - just one day apart from your beautiful litter! I hope everything is going well with you and your beautiful fur-family. Warmest :)

Once again, so sorry for your loss Hesa. That synopsis has me in tears. RIP little miracle.

If the ears only need a little encouragement, we dabbed a little Vaseline on the underneath edge of the ears, then coated it with talcum powder. This worked a treat with us

Sentinel & if we go up to Qld, Frontline for the ticks (esp paralysis). Here in Melb ticks aren't really as much of a problem... -
Older Dogs And General Anesthetics?
Nacster replied to 4pups's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had my 14 year old Sheltie's teeth cleaned last year under GA and we opted to pay the extra to have her blood work checked before she went under... Not sure what it involves so can't really answer your question, however it was peace of mind for us to know she'd be just that much safer to go under. I think it cost us an extra $100 but I can't be sure... ETA - everything went well and she is still healthy and happy -
We (hubby and I) are addicted to the Dog Whisperer... I love his impression of a curious interested dog - he does it so well We sometimes count the number of times the words 'calm submissive state of mind' are repeated throughout the show - guaranteed its bound to come up in every single episode!

Looks like Bailey doesn't like the puppy lamb and rice We've tried soaking it... mixing it... he somehow manages to sort out the old food (which is chicken) with the lamb stuff and eat everything but the lamb! I think he might be strictly a chicken boy...Will have to try the Nutro puppy chicken stuff - what to do with this humungous bag of lamb and rice? Anyone want some??? I've never had a fussy doggie before... ;)

I will tell my hubby that we're having chicken necks for dinner!!!! (We certainly have enough to feed a small village!)
-
Oh dear... We bought like a huge bag of the puppy lamb and rice - normal kibble... I might have to try the smaller stuff - he really doesn't seem to like the dry food Ate those chicken necks like there was no tomorrow (which doesn't surprise me really - he's always loved 'em)...
-
Well the minimum amount of chicken necks I could buy at the local ionica chicken deli was over 1kg... So I have just bagged up like about 30 chicken necks and thrown them into the freezer for safe keeping Nick&erica love the tug idea - I did tie something to the roof of his crate when he was little but he wasn't interested.. might be worth another try!

Many thanks all - I will definitely try soaking his food tonight... We have a strict rule at our house that after 10 mins, whatever hasn't been finished gets taken away. And nothing in between meals. This has never been a problem before as my two older shelties are so gutsy they could probably win a world record with how fast they can wolf down their food. I will also pick up some chicken necks and make them cold to see if he is willing to eat these - they are usually his favourite...

I have a quick question I'm hoping someone can help me with I have a 6 month old sheltie pup - Bailey - who is teething (lost one of his molars yesterday). He seems to have gone off his food / he is having difficulty eating. This has been happening for about a week or two but where he has previously not really eaten his dinner or half eaten his dinner, he usually finishes his breakfast. The last couple of days he's really not touching his food - breakfast or dinner. I drove out to pick up two huge bags of Nutro yesterday thinking he may not like the Proplan dry food he's on but he's struggling with the Nutro as well... This morning there were small crumpled bits of nutro on the floor surrounding his bowl so it looks like he tried to eat it but he can't chew (maybe?)... Should I be soaking his food with something to make it easier for him to eat? I have 2 older dogs but never had any problems with their appetite - teething or not. Many thanks in advance

I'm not sure if I am helping here, but is he going in the same places inside? They tend to like to go to the same places and ensure their pee smell is on top of the other pee smell that was there before ( ). If you don't properly disinfect the inside pee smell - like really disinfect it! - your pup might be trying to instinctly go where he smells the old pee...Even though you praise him for going outside... Generally my guys know that if the surface is a hard one (we have floor boards inside) then they're not supposd to go there...They tend not to go on the concrete outside too. They know that dirt/grass/bark is where they usually pee. They usually go to the same spots outside every time as well (to cover the previous pee with the new pee lol!)... As I said, not sure if this helps?
