  1. YES!!!! Or crazy, or hard to train, or all girls because they happen to have long hair... (Okay, so they might be just the teeeeeensiest bit stubborn...)
  2. We had our vet come to the house for our old Cocker boy, and I would NEVER have it any other way. I want the last thing my babies to remember is the familiar smells, sounds and sights of home, and me holding them in my arms. There is no pain like it, to have to hold your beloved animal while they breathe out their last. For me, it was the guilt that he didn't know what we were doing to him, didn't have a say in it, and that he wagged his tail to see the vet and welcomed her the way he welcomed everyone who came into our home - a gentleman to the end. It was very peaceful for him, and it was instant. His heart stopped before they had even finished the injection. We all held him and hugged him, and the vet took him away to be cremated with the same fluffy rabbit toy he had snuggled up to sleep with every night since the first night he came to us. My beautiful, loving, happy boy. It still hurts so badly.

  4. My Labrador will often sit licking the air after eating. I'm pretty sure it's reflux. It drives me mental, though.
  5. Maybe the softer carpet is allowing the hock joint to roll a bit when he's walking, but the lino doesn't?
  6. I found the 2nd and 3rd pup easy, because they were so keen to fit into the pack routine when they came home. But puppy No 1...god. He was a sooky little monster. I think he cried at night for the first 4 months! I have since learned that it is best just to bring them into the bedroom. Contrary to what I was told, it doesn't mean they'll spend the rest of their lives sleeping there - mine are all crated now at night with no issues. Puppy No 3 cried because I had her in the bedroom and she wanted to go out with the others lol...put her out in her crate, and silence. That was a first!
  7. Yep, Kendall - everything seems to be working fine. His breath seems to be on the improve. Not sure if it's as a result of the antibiotics, or whether it's just clearing up on its own. I wish I knew what caused/is causing it. I don't want him to be on meds if he doesn't need it.
  8. I've had a pretty good look inside his mouth, yes. He's also eats yoghurt as part of his diet. Regularly wormed. He still seems 100% fine. Breath is slightly better this morning (as in, I can't smell him from across the room, like yesterday, but still stinky up close). Thanks for the replies, everyone.
  9. Just wondering if anyone might have any ideas... Took one of my dogs to the vet this morning. Yesterday, his breath just started stinking. It almost smells like he's eaten poo, it's that bad. (I actually wondered if maybe he was licking an impacted anal gland or something - it smells similar. But his butt smells fine.) Checked all his teeth and mouth - no issues. His teeth are clean, and there are no signs of anything in his mouth (eg obstructions, broken teeth, abcess etc). No signs there could be anything stuck in his throat - he's not coughing, gagging, or looking uncomfortable. He hasn't been eating anything in the garden. His ears are clean and no infections there. He ploughed through his breakfast (raw chicken wings) with no issues, and has happily munched on tidbits during the day. The vet has given him antibiotics, in case there is any infection or something stuck lower down, or somewhere she wasn't able to see. I dunno though. I know he seems 100% fine (aside from the STENCH, which I can literally smell in another room), but there's something in my gut that is just telling me that this is bad news. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen?? I am worried it might be liver...but like I said, he seems 100% fine, apart from the stink-breath. ETA: He is a young dog in otherwise excellent condition.
  10. Love that pup, Skyehaven. Well done.
  11. My aunt in Nedlands had a few windows blown in, and a friend was knocked out by a hail stone! My brother is in the middle of having a second storey added to their house. They just found out the builders didn't bother to make the rest of their house water-tight...they've lost pretty much everything.
  12. I wondered about the carpet, but no one else seemed to be having issues. Maybe something happened to his shoes? I can also understand about the different attitudes to what handlers wear...except that the overwhelming majority of winners were well-dressed and professional in appearance. So maybe it does count for the judges? Go Yogi! A lovely line-up for the BIS judging. I'm still bouncing off the walls after seeing a very special BOB win for a dog very dear to me - go JINGLES!!!!! It was about bloody time!
  13. Does anyone know what time group judging for gun dogs will start, GMT? Last year, I sat up till 4am Perth time to watch it lol Dunno if I can last that long again, this year. But BIS is tempting to wait up for! ETA: I love Goldies...and I admire how much work must go into training that en masse heelwork to music routine...but could it GO ANY LONGER??
  14. What is WITH some of those outfits?! Some of them look like they're popping down to the shops for some milk. I think the guy running around in his best suit and SOCKS would have to take the cake...
  15. Those videos will be uploaded to YouTube. They're usually pretty quick at putting them up. All the breeds? They haven't shown my breed ever - that I know of, anyway!!
  16. Sigh...I wish they showed the BOB judging for each breed like Westminster does.
  17. I wonder whether if so many people weren't running around trying to be "hard" and "tough" in the show world, it might be a nicer place?
  18. That is the difference with the US/canadian show world, they do congratulate & it would be rude not too, here its always rude to congratulate I don't think it's rude here to congratulate someone. Or do you mean the way in which the congratulations are offered (eg, insincere)? Can you clarify your point? I think I'm missing it!
  19. I think you need to be prepared, to thrive in the show world. Prepared to accept that when you're new, this shows when you enter the ring and don't give your dog's best. Prepared to accept you always have something to learn, whether you're new or not. Prepared to accept that sometimes, you might lose even if YOU think you have the better dog. Prepared to accept that sometimes, you might lose even if the judge thinks you have the better dog. Prepared to accept that some people take it harder than you do. Prepared to accept that some people take it more seriously than you do. Prepared to accept that not all losses are personal. Prepared to accept that some losses ARE political. Prepared to have fun. Prepared to meet new people and to learn from them. Prepared to see some beautiful examples of the breed, even if you don't own them. Prepared to admit that their dog is better than yours - for now. Prepared to accept that some judges just won't like your dog. Prepared to accept that some judges will LOVE your dog, but that doesn't automatically mean you'll win next week. Or even under them again. ETA: Forgot to add - prepared to wait. Your dog might take 3-4 years to be at their best. Or you might need to wait for a better dog. Prepared to lose. Prepared to get over it.
  20. Agree with jdavis. A name doesn't mean anything to a dog other than a sound they hear regularly. They don't use it to identify or represent themselves. Only humans are sentimental about names
