    Bones Etc

We started our boy on bones the day we brought him home. As paw prints said, always raw never cooked
  5. hi miss shel You will have heaps of fun at training. My husband takes our border to training and he loves it as does Duke. (he gets very excited when he sees his friends) Don't forget to bring your treats.
  6. I have been feeding my border collie Duke on barf since we brought him home. He is thriving on it He has the best temperament and besides the usual things that puppies do, he is a well behaved dog but in my honest opinion, I don't think it's solely beacuse he is on BARF that he like this. We spend alot of time with him training and playing and teaching him things. It's not unusual for a puppy to lose concentration when trying to train them. I started on Barf for the health and nutritional factor as I don't like canned or chemical food and try to avoid it as much as I can He does have his biscuits, which is Nutro, as it doesn't have half of the crap that other biscuits do. Try it and see how he goes. All dogs are different and what works for one doesn't mean it will work for the other.

    Milk

I guess it depends on whether your dog can handle cows milk. My breeder told me to give my border Biolac and he loved it but stopped drinking it after 4 mths and now its only water. I didn't even think to give him cows milk. I guess my way of thinking was he's only a puppy and like with human babies, cows milk might be too strong and upset his tummy. But every dog is different and can handle certain things diffferently. If your baby likes cows milk and has no issues, keep going with it.
  8. We feed Nutro (also with a raw diet ). Agree with Hesapandabear
  9. Duke responded the best with BBQ chicken given in small amounts and also with his favourite fruits like berries (again in small amounts)

  11. The way I see it, it makes perfect sense. Before we got Duke, I knew I didnt want to give him processed food and found Dr Billinghurst Barf diet and researched the whole diet Natural foods are always better than processed. It works the same way with humans as well Duke, our border collie, has been on a raw diet as soon as we took him home (at 8 weeks) and he is thriving on it.
  12. I'm not worrying about it anymore. I am going back to doing it all myself like I did before. Like I said from the beginning, it is unprofessional and he's not going back. And I have been given great advice from DOL'ers. Once again everyone, a very big thankyou.
  13. Hi all The owner called me back today and she spoke to the lady who had Duke last. She said she was aware she had clipped him and said it was an accident. The owner asked her what was she doing with the clippers around him in the first place. She said she thought someone told her to clip him and when she started she was stopped by another lady who works there. I asked to speak to her and asked her was there any reason for her to take out the clippers on him. She said no and apologised for the miscommunication. By the way, she is new and just started. I told the owner not to worry and she said to me in future she will take care of Duke herself. I appreciated her honestly and the way she followed up on this for me.
  14. With the places I have gone to, I have never asked them to clip him. Before getting him, we knew how much time was needed to groom him. One place only recommended to shave him on his belly due to the hot weather and I said no as he is still a puppy and it wasn't that thick. That's why I couldn't understand why he was "accidently" clipped on his back leg.
  15. I did talk to the owner about it and she apologised. The person who did Duke that day is on holidays and she said she will speak with her when she gets back. I bought an oldfield dryer today and should get it some time tomorrow. I know I will be more happier if I do it myself now.
  16. I have been sitting here for a while trying to find some words of comfort but only manage to start crying and starting all over again. I'm so sorry for your loss but she will forever be in your heart and thoughts and watching over you all. I'm sorry
  17. Our vet charges $50 for consultation I had seen her once where I was basically in and out and she charged nothing. She's worth every cent spent.
  18. I know not all mobile groomers and salon groomers are bad. From the feedback given from some DOL's who are groomers, I'm sure you all do a fantastic job. Its a shame you all are too far for me to meet you. Unfortunately I have had nothing but bad experiences, but we have decided to groom him myself like how I started to do from the beginning. And have also taken on board the advice given in the forum.
  19. I have taken him only twice and each time never happy. ( had been going once a month ) have already asked my hubbie for another BC. Lol
  20. Have tried my hair dryer and I'm there forever and it doesn't blow the dead hair out so I really need to invest in a proper dryer.
  21. My husband said he could do something to connect hot/cold water. We are going to look into that today. I have a grooming table that I use each time I do brush him. Hubbie is giving in. He always said that I am too perticular with my bub but I know that I won't be happy unless I do wash/groom him myself And yes the grooming tips on DOL have helped me heaps Thanks Poodlefan
  22. I'm not taking him back He is a long hair bc. I was grooming him myself until about 2 mths ago when my husband suggested that I try groomers. Long story and many arguments later I gave in and now I think he is slowly seeing what I am talking about. Im already looking into buying a dryer and a hydrobath but hydrobaths are expensive. Does anyone know know where I can get maybe a second hand hydrobath or dryers.
  23. It's not always the same place. This time it was on top of his left hind leg. Very noticable. I should have taken a photo. I did go to the vet to get it checked out as I was worried and she told me everything is ok. He was just clipped there. He is still a puppy ( only 8 mths ) I'm dreading taking him back there.
  24. Duke gets a thorough brushing every second day. I make sure there are no matts and if there is, I cut it out. This groomer told me that that it is so nice to have a well looked after dog and believe me he is. I agree Nadia, things are getting stupid. I went to a grooming salon specifically to get that extra attention, nothing diffferent or special cut etc, just a wash and the result so far is disappointing.
