Hey Thomas when I was seven, I lost my tortoise, Gertrude. She didn't come out of hibernation alive, and had maggots crawling out of her eye sockets. She was only 2 years old, which is very young for a tortoise. Like Ben, gone too soon  . 41 years later, and I still remember pulling her body out of the straw in the spring only to smell the decay and see the maggots. As they say, only the good die young. What sort of dog was Ben? What brought about the heart failure? Do you have a dog at the moment? Peter D

I been feeding roo meat to my pack for over two years now without problems. It is only part of their diet; They also get dry food, Prota roll, the occasional chicken frame/neck/wing, etc. They appear to prefer roo to any other food I use the Prota 1kg packs of roo for dogs; these are available in Coles. I guess if you were concerned about low levels of calcium, you could the Prota roo for cats as this has added calcium. It's a few cents more expensive that the roo for dogs, and I've bought it when there has been no dog roo available. Peter D

Yes, grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs. You will find many threads confirming this if you search DOL Peter D edited to delete repeated word

Go back and read Steve's post and her references I have friends; I'll never need to board. I don't want to poison my dogs just so that I can put them into kennels. The jury is well and truly out on vaccinating; once, maybe twice, but no more than that. Peter D

Hi people Hobbes is now just over 3 years old and I've had him fully vaccinated twice. Hobbes found me when he was about 1 year old, and for all I know, he might also have been vaccinated as a pup. He is heart worm negative. His annual re-vaccination is due on the 19th of December 2004 and I just got the reminder from his vet. I'm going to take him in for his annual vet check, but I'm thinking that he has been vaccinated enough to not need a third set of vaccinations (or possibly his 4th round :D ). What do people think? He won't be going into kennels this year (or any other year for that matter ) so I don't need to keep his vaccination certificate current for that reason. The info I've been getting from the 'net states that we and most dog owners have been over-vaccinating our pooches. Peter D

Jo clips Lulu really closely on her tummy (almost shaved ), closed clipped on her bottom, and about 1 centimetre elsewhere. She leaves her ears and tail long. apparently, the close clipping of a dogs tummy really helps with temperature regulation. Lulu certainly gets a new lease of life when she's clipped. btw, Jo does this with hairdressor's scissors, no clippers. Peter D

Innova is good, as it is human grade kibble. The down sides are that it is expensive, and you can only buy it from 'Pet's Paradise' franchises. Peter D

Jeff, I only know you by your posts (which I get a lot of enjoyment from ) but I want to say that my thoughts are with you. Losing a family member is always difficult, and at 5 years old, Wazza was so young. Peter D

When my father died two years ago, I was with him stroking his arm. He was my dad and I loved him more than anything else. My dad, the best human I knew. My dad; the best person I ever knew. I looked at him as he was dying and told him 'its ok to die'. He looked at me, and died, with a smile on his face. Peter D

Hello j I am so sad to hear of your loss; the effects of irresponsible owners are huge. If these two dogs had been properly confined, Monty would still be alive and the dogs would not be incarcerated and at risk of also dying. R.I.P. Monty Peter D
