Does The Amount Of Food I Am Feeding My Lab Puppy Sound Ok?
Curly1 replied to snr's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just a question for you SNR....are you feeding a calcium supplement? If you are only feeding chicken wings and pet mince this is not a complete diet for a growing puppy. If you boy is going to be "big" I would strongly recommend you talk to your vet about a calcium supplement. -
Thankyou every1 for your repies.....I have used Shear Magic's for 2 years now and never had a problem with them I love them. I will give Colin a ring.

How Long To Clip & Groom A Maltese/shitzu
Curly1 replied to Chocolate's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm with Nicole. I am mobile and can set up and finish the job in around 1 hour. 1 and and1/4 if the dog mucks about. I always clip first unless the dog is truely disgusting ( I have a dog that is worked on pigs that always gets a bath first) as I just cant see the point in washing and drying hair you are going to cut off. Drying time is what gets the job done more quickly I think. -
I have just received to new clipper blades (Shear Magic) and neither of them will cut . Have other groomers had this dilema? Its not my clippers as my blade that I have been using for some time now and is near to needing a sharpen is still working on the same hair I am trying to cut with the new blades. I bought them so that I could send the others off to the sharpener. This is extremely frustrating as I work in a mobile salon and this time of the year is extraordinarily busy.

I am a mobile dog groomer and always give a quick brush before washing and a thorough brushing after followed by a combing to make sure I haven;t missed any tangles. If you are generally happy with the way your dog was handled and washed, next time ask her to give her a thorough brushing after the blow drying. If she's as good as you think she is she will be happy to do this. She may charge a little extra for this service but it would be worth doing. Just my 2 cents worth.

I am a farmer and a professional dog groomer and breeder and I feed beef liver regularly. I don't find that it upsets my dogs at all and they love it. It is important to remember when feeding liver that it MUST be either cooked or FROZEN before it is fed to your dogs (especially if it is sheep liver). The reason for this is that sheep and sometimes cattle are hosts for the hydatid tapeworm. Many livers contain cysts which contain eggs and head sepments of the hydatid tapeworm. When ingested by the dog the eggs hatch and your dog is now the carrier of hydatids which if left untreated can be passed on to human with potentially fatal results. See http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/b...hydatid_disease for more information. It is important to remember to freeze or cook your liver before feeding it to your dogs and to ensure they are treated with a specific Hydatid Tapeworm Control such as "DRONCIT" - wormers which control other tapeworms are not sufficient. It is also interesting to note that it is ILLEGAL to feed any form of cooked or raw OFFAL in TASMANIA to dogs. See - http://www.dpiw.tas.gov.au/inter.nsf/WebPa...ART-6SA36R?open I hope you find this informative.

There are products on the market used by dairys and the like and you can mix them in a pressure sprayer and spray your house and shed walls with it. The flies die when they make contact with the walls and surfaces that is has been applied to. It is fantastic stuff we use it every year. There are more than one product available. The one we use is call Coopex. Our house walls were done a couple of weeks ago and it has been cool since then but today its hot and when I went out this morning there were a million blowies on the walls. There are now a million dead blowies on my verandah Only downside is now I have to go sweep them up . Try your hardware store or any stock and station agent would have some. Good luck Cheers Curly1

I use and sell Lawrence slickers in my mobile grooming salon and swear by them. Additionaly there are no plastic parts so static electricity shocks are not a problem like they can be with the plastic ones. I have had mine for 2 years and they are still as good as new. I would buy a small Tender Care for a bichon. Good luck with your search for a gr8 brush. Cheers Curly1

Successful Training Methods For Dog Aggression
Curly1 replied to 4 Paws's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Just my thoughts but I would get yourself a look at Cesar Millans "Mastering Leadership" Series of DVD's and get his book be "Be The Pack Leader" I use his techniques and find the change in my dogs and those of others who I train to be nothing short of amazing!! IMHO You will never get aggression under control if you do not display calm assertive leadership to your dog. -
Has Anyone's Dog Choked On Chicken Necks?
Curly1 replied to ~Aimee~'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I watch my puppies when they get chicken necks. I rarely give them to the older dogs as I prefer the frames that they have to chew on. (much better for teeth and gum's) I always feed raw chicken frames as a supplement before and while I'm traveling as I find that it firms up their stools. Cheers Kat -
OMG.... I am a mobile groomer and it is paramount that if there was a problem with a dog the owner would be contacted IMMEDIATELY! Then off to the vet pronto. I have public liability insurance I would not work without it. Reputable groomers would never injure a dog but sometimes there are dogs that are hell bent on doing it. You generally know when they are going to do it though and can have someone else on hand (usually the owner) if you think there might be a problem. I won't do dogs that I know will be a problem unless the owner is present at ALL times. I would be calling a solicitor ..... the groomer is ultimately responsible for the dog while it is in their care! Cheers Kat

The yougsters are also still receiving a calcium supplement but this will stop soon. I have real trouble keep the weight on Scottie and Jess. Tarli has plateued and Georgie is on a diet, like the rest of us she had her babies and the weight just stayed with her :D and she is a reluctant athlete, prefering to jump onto the farm ute Well that is my lot. Cheers K
