Why the witch hunt by some DoL folk? .....as per usual. Whoever was gong to try it..grab a sample, try it on your dogs and make your own judgements.

Years ago, my dad used to breed, train and race greyhounds. He was passionate about his dogs....which is where I think I must get it from, cos mum hates animals....and he only ever used to feed them what was deemed to be the most nutritious meat.....sheeps heads. Which he stewed up with vegetables, rice and god knows what else...but it was the whole head, skinned but not "gutted". He did it in his shed because it made the worst stink, and he used a big pot that looked like a witches cauldron. And I'd often peer in there only to find an eyeball or two peering back up at me from the stew pot. Now that's the stuff nightmares are made of. being an ex grey breeder/trainer/racer I can tell you half of them don't bother with all the hype of "premium" dog food. Very few use it unless it's given to them and then used as an endorsement. edit: I can't spell Yeah I've seen what's been pumped out of greyhounds stomachs...mostly large amounts of 4x2 biscuits, I doubt that they have ever picked up a Billinghurst book either. oh yay vet nurse experts. Top racers don't live on 4x2 biscuits, that is left to the bogan trainers. To GayleK. Yes we made our own soups and fresh meat also with some kibble. Carcasses were a big hit. I couldn't use heads or anything like that. ick.

Those pictures are from the breeds that are suppose to look like that. Greyhound body and and I.G gait. I dare not cut and paste others whippets, put them on here and point out the faults. That would be crass. I'd rather refer to it. BUT that is the trend of what's occuring, unfortunately.

I'm getting some Black Hawk dog food tommorow to try. My dogs coat, overall condition and poop will tell me what I need to know. I don't care if the lambs where shepparded in by Heidi from the highlands or the cow was fed by Mary from the dairy.

I want to see whippets going back to this kind of look Instead of body's and toplines like this Also sloping toplines that should be seen on Boxers and Dobermanns, not whippets. Seeing this alot in younger stock now. Also whippets do no move like this. This high knee action goes hand in hand with short upperarms and straight shoulders.

I start with a slush of farax (original rice based with puppy milk) and lean mince at around 4 - 4 1/2 weeks. Each day thicken a little and then switch the farax for puppy kibble moosh. I also give them straight puppy milk at around 4 1/2 weeks. They are little kibble crunchers at around 6 weeks of age. I let them naturally wean off the mother and they are usually fully weaned by 7 weeks, when she doesn't let them nurse anymore.

I am having that issue at the moment. All my whippets are doing great on one brand yet I'm STILL finding it hard to keep any kind of decent condition on my fawn boy. He is a real poor doer. His coat is still dull yet the other whippets do fantastic on it and their coats gleam. So I'm starting him on Nutro and will go from there. I currently use Artemis Osopure Power which the others do really well with. Sess has been a pain in the rear end when it comes to weight. She has put it on and looks great on Black Hawk. I've been through a lot of option with her and this one clicked. I sent the Black Hawk makers a PM. Maybe they have someone in Vic as a distributor.

I don't see any good reason not to apart from the time of the year. There are risks with every whelping. You need to weight it all up, good and bad. Alot of good dogs are IID. Arguably one of the best whippets this country has seen was IID.

off topic a bit I have an oster clipper (blades are blunt). Do these things usually sell second hand or just dust gatherers? might toss it on ebay if I can find it. I know it's in my room somewhere

I do mine on day 3 then apply condi's. I do them when the bitch is out in the backyard. Yes you have to remove the whole joint and I've seen some pretty dodgy jobs done by vets so I prefer to do them myself.

No and No. A champion from weak competition is just as bad as no competition and petrol champions. I like a large entry of good quality dogs. At least the CC will have some meaning. If others want to win CC's then they can breed a dog that's competitive. As a side note: I have known people to withdraw their dogs so others don't get the points needed to make a champion on the day. A stupid and petty thing to do.

The dog show scene is getting small. Entries are down and you get a show sec that is the show sec for like 5 other clubs because no-one else wants to/has the time to do it. So it's going to happen that the judge will know someone, goes to the toilet in the next stall, parks their car next to, or receives a scone from someone else who they may be judging on the day. so what.

All done. 2 Ai's. Semen had a post thaw motility rate of 70% (which is fantastic). If she is in whelp pups will be due Nov 18 so we have fingers toes and eyes crossed.

I now realise there is dead ring and live ring etiquette. I'd probably PMSL if you did that to me.

Whippets is correct that the whitening shampoos don't remove stains any better than ordinary ones. What that purple does is neutralise any yellowing, giving an appearance of white. I love using spray chalk on white legs but its only good for smooth coated dogs. I've never used that spray chalk on the day of the show. Might give it a whirl. Is it messy? I looked at it a month back and envisaged having white crud all over the grooming table from the spray.

Whitening shampoos are a waste of money. All it is is purple dye in regular shampoo. For stain removal we use sards wonder soap. Make sure you follow up with some sort of conditioning treatment with sards, and dont use near the face.

tests results back 9 nanograms/mL . She is well in the range. Phew lucky or I would have missed the breeding. Anyway another blood test tommorow a.m then a likely implant tommorow arvo. Freakin dogs. Got the the whippet specialty tommorow and had to run around and organise someone else to take her to the vet at 8.30am........doncha love dogs
