That report was so upsetting. Seen it all before. Nothing has changed. It's getting worse. If that Matt Hamm guy thinks he is "Farming" dogs in an ethical way then he has rocks in his head. How much socialisation do those poor dogs get!!! NONE. The dogs didn't look happy at all and temperaments in the resulting pups would be questionable.

Can I Get A Refund For A Change Of Judge?
whippets replied to BittyMooPeeb's topic in General Dog Discussion
Usually they have a clause that gives them the right to change, substitute or appoint an extra judge (if large entry). No refunds. It is annoying. I remember entering a show where we had a breed specialist overseas, got a huge entry and we ended up with a local judge. Nothing against the locals but if I knew before hand I wouldn't have entered. -
We go to eastern beach alot with the dogs (onlead only). They love it and it's good socialisation. I also do the markets around here, especially Queenscliff market. Newman makes a B-line to the "gourmet dog biscuit" lady and the couple that sell everything dried from pig snouts to bull pizzles (can't stand the smell of those).

So true :D In 1983 I thought I looked super cool with my "barbie pink" bubblegum jeans, leg warmers and BIG HAIR.... pretty much fashion that came out of "pretty in pink or sixteen candles" haha. So dorky looking back now.

Pet Health Insurance As Part Of Puppy Packs
whippets replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in Breeders Community
That's an excellent addition for puppy buyers. I didn't know you could do this. I shall investigate.. -

Justin. Your're right you don't have my vote. Let me put it this way then. Start lobbying and comparing Whippets to the APBT in the public media. Then come back here and let me know how that works out for you. It's the people involved with APBT's that have ruined the breed. Not me or any other ethical dog owner/breeder. I have read some of Mantis posts on her dog Kenny. I'm sure he is a gorgeous, loveable, loyal dog who never hurt a fly. I'm sure (actually dead certain) there would be others out there like his/her dog. It's these dogs and their owners that are paying the price for the wrong breeders and wrong owners. The wrong people are still out there and thriving (as per my points above in the previous post). If you don't "get it" now you never will. This will keep going around in circles and nothing will change with BSL.
-
If the APBT owners on this forum are representative of the majority mentality within this breed then they will never get my vote. -Glorifying "fighting dogs" -Underground illegal breeding -Openly acknowledge that they register their APBT's as crossbreds. -Openly acknowledge that they would falsify pedigrees to get their dogs registered with the ANKC (if that ever happen) -Are in total denial of the breeds short comings I said it before and I'll say it again. This breed has paid the price because of stupid people. Registering them as mixed breeds will do nothing more than bring other breeds of dogs down with the APBT. I'm sure the registered, eithical, law abiding breeders will thank you all for that.

Yeah that's a tough one

I do everything for the dogs and most of their affections are shared except my house whippet. I do everything for her yet she prefers to sleep on my 10 year olds bed and not mine. I find that very upsetting :D

Poll: Have You Ever Used The Report Button
whippets replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nope never used the report button. Would only use if threatened or some classy articulate person drops an "F' bomb (can I type that? :D ) and similar profanities. Everything else I could care less about. -
Enells are a different sizing to regular bras. I'll find in aussie site for sizing and post it. The sizing is the same in the USA. There is a "fitting guide" just under the description. HERE Or directly HERE

I saw shoes like that in the movie Shrek, but I still like them.

We start at around 4 weeks of age. If it was a huge litter (10+ puppies) I'd probably start on formula earlier.

I watched ACA a few weeks back when they had friends grouping together to buy tan machines and hair removal machines. A few of them mentioned that, before they pooled expenses together, their monthly cost on beauty treatments was around $300-400. I nearly had a heart attack

Dogs First Domesticated In The Middle East
whippets replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in In The News
So it's possible the Dingo pre-dates the Wolf? Be a real wonder on the evolution of the dog then and how they spread across the world. Wonder what pre-dated the Dingo. -
Made a difference? yes it looks it considering Brumby is tightening the DD laws even more. You don't think this in turn will affect BSL? My oath it will. I didn't call anyone here a moron. I'll leave the "bog ignorant" "twaddle" and "total crap" quotes to you. The only thing I've learned from you as that you are very good at using google and using the Copy & Paste feature on your computer. What you DO need for the anti-BSL campaigns are articulate, level headed, intelligent people. This is probably one of the reasons why restrictions on GSD's have succeeded and APBT's have failed. I certainly don't see it in the posts that I have read. All I've read are attacks on people who don't agree or the use of fear tactics to gain favor (your breed will be next!!!). The approach is WRONG and the attitudes are WRONG.

I believe that with proper breeding practices and the right imports, the APBT COULD have been an acceptable breed in this country. Unfortunately it is beyond that now in Australia. The breed paid the price for the wrong imports, the wrong people breeding and the wrong people owning. I couldn't pick to much out of the data sg presented. Albeit my only experience with statistics was 1 semester at uni last year. I'm glad I don't have to calculate hypothesis tests and probability again
-
Yep and here is the data through to 1998 from the same author. I'm still on the fence with BSL. I'm not sure which way to go but with the current situation with bull breed/crosses attacks the public demand action. It's amazing that when people see statistics that don't suit their purpose then they'll pick it to pieces (as in what sandgrubber posted) yet if they see one where bull breeds/crosses arn't in the top 10 (havn't seen one of those yet) they'll wave it around for the whole world to see. The tenacity and aggression in the APBT"S (again I only mention this bull breed because it's the one I am most familiar with) could be reduced substantially through proper breeding practice but from the 1980's imports till now that is not many generations. PLUS the breed didn't have the opportunity with BSL. Excepting of course the underground breeders which again won't do the breed any favors by breeding APBT's illegally. I'm sure the ones that frequent here hate me mentioning it and hate it every time I do. When I don't agree with what was mentioned in the "news" forum, instead of addressing my point: "APBT's are not for the "average joe" dog owner. Not ONE person addressed that. Instead posts get selectively misquoted and insults such as "bog ignorant" "uneducated and illiterate" then t-shirt quotes of "judge the deed, not the breed" People who post on these forums need to be aware that the journalists read these forums as do the general public. I can't remember if it was the Geelong Adi or the Herald Sun but the Australian dog forums were referred to in their newspaper article. If the DoL people are the same people that are at the forefront of anti-BSL campaigning then they havn't got a hope in Hades of changing BSL legislation with their attitude.

For casual everyday wear, I'd wear those shoes with a pair of light denim jeans and t-shirt in a heartbeat.
