  1. Sneaking in a 3 week old puppy pic.........because I can are you going to have a seperate area for whelping?
  2. The clouds cleared for a bit so I took some quick snaps. Emailing them now
  3. I don't know if the hawks would take the pups but they "could" because I've seen them catch rabbits. Therefore I put netting up (the stuff they use to cover fruit trees, it's pretty cheap). I'll take some pix tommorow when the weather is a bit better and send them to you.
  4. AHHH you'll love the 5 acres. We are on 5 acres here. We had it set up previously for grey racers but it fit with whippet pretty good. The house is fenced about 1/2 acres worth and snake proofed. We also had to chicken wire the inside of the fence because of a fence jumper. We have 2x 100 metre galloping runs down the side of the property. Inside the fenced area of the house we have 4x 20 metre runs for the babies and bitches on season. We use netting over the top of 2 of them due the hawks in the area (gorgeous birds ). Off the back part of the fenced (house area) there is a opening in the fence (gate) to a small walkway which has an indoor 9 kennel complex. I can put two whippets together as they don't like sleeping solo . There is also an "empty out" area off the shed which is cyclone meshed and about 30m x 10m. I could email pix if you like. edit: some of my dimensions were off.
  5. It's a good thing the puppy came back after the 1st night. The right dogs have to go to the right people. They were obviously the wrong people.
  6. yeah whatever. Misplace blame on "people like me". I don't care. I wasn't the one that provided evidence that put Amstaffs in the same basket as APBT's. That curtesy goes to Ms Chivers.
  7. How about YOU do us all a favor and keep your Ignorant comments to yourself It's so easy there sitting at your computer and pointing fingers, about the only thing you're remotely good at The acts of people to save ONE byb bred dog is going to potentially ruin an ANKC registered breed and how many purebred registered dogs bred by responsible ethical people? I can point my finger and say what I bloody well like.
  8. Evidence provided by the applicant (Ms Chivers) has potentially ruined an entire ANKC registered breed (The Amstaff). For those here who have had input into the "Tango" case. Do us all a favor, if a full bench Supreme Court appeal is granted, don't drag any other purebred ANKC registered breeds into the case and put them into a precarious position as what's been done to the Amstaff. Thanks
  9. You obviously need to come and live in Vic. Very dog friendly here I'll tell you what though. People are pretty responsible with their dogs along Eastern Beach (Geelong) with picking up their dogs mess etc. Th council provide doggy poo bag rolls in small posts for people to clean up after their dogs. It's the bloody "personal trainers" that take up all the room, along the beach area, that really pizz me off.
  10. It's not the GCCC that is at fault for Amstaffs and APBT's to be judged the same breed. It's Ms Chivers fault. The applicant provided evidence that Amstaffs and APBT's ARE the same breed. The GCCC didn't contest, why would they? The defendants agreed with the evidence and used it against the applicant. Therefore the court ruled they were the same breed. I still don't get why Ms Chivers would provide that kind of evidence. STUPID.
  11. That case will probably set a precedent for any other case involving an Amstaff/APBT being the same breed in this country. I feel really bad for the Amstaff breeders/owners. This could possibly be the start of the end of the Amstaff in this country. Jane Harvey isn't going to be very popular now either. How stupid of the applicant to use these people as evidence. Stupid, just stupid.
  12. Herald_Sun_April_6th THE junk food and poor eating habits affecting humans are also killing their four-legged pals, say veterinary surgeons and experts in Europe. Allergies and obesity are reducing the life expectancy of dogs and cats nourished worldwide on industrial foodstuffs, said Gerard Lippert, a Belgian acupuncturist for animals who has completed a study on the diets of 600 dead dogs. "Pets, like humans, are victims of junk food," he said. Of the corpses he examined, those fed on processed foods died three years earlier than those fed on home-made food. Mr Lippert said dogs originally were omnivores who shared food with humans. He said he was increasingly called on to heal skin, motor and digestive problems. "Dry dog food and cat food croquettes are over-heated, which destroys vitamins, trace elements and other basic nutritional elements," he said. "We don't know the origin of the proteins in the foods. And there's an excessive amount of cereal, often genetically modified, and very little vegetables." Laurence Colliard, a veterinary surgeon in Paris, estimates that only 5 per cent of French pet-owners cook food for their four-legged companions. "I'm seeing an increasing number of allergies, diarrhoea, vomiting, skin dermatitis as well as cases of obesity, especially amid cats," he said. The pet food industry was born in England where James Spratt produced the world's first dog biscuits in 1860. Many internet sites are now calling for a return to natural foods. "Your pet should consume foods that are similar to a dog's wild ancestors. This includes bones, fat, meat, and vegetable materials," barf.com says.
  13. Some kids absolutely LOVE the dog shows then there are others that hate it and parents drag them along weekend after weekend. It makes me sad for those kids and they inevitably get up to mischief. My 11 year old loves the dogs but hates dog shows so I'm lucky to get to 10 shows per year (and that's stretching it). I'll get right into the dog showing again when kids are grown up
  14. Yes fruru, but not every dog in a litter is sold as a show prospect or play a part in someones breeding program (in most cases). So you'd expect dogs to also go to pet homes. Dogs are not the only species where auto-immune diseases are on the rise so I'm not entirely convinced close COI is the cause of that. I also don't think the dog has got alot of negative publicity. The handler (or was it the co-owner?) did but not the dog. I think he has put the Australian dog scene on the map and shows that Aussie bred dogs are just as good as other show dogs around the world.
  15. ..and the mold wasn't broken after that guy was made either. Plenty more where he came from. stupid old fart probably bought a condom impregnated with spermacide anyway....
  16. the stuff on the left looks like a body scrub for humans.
  17. Yes they call that an "educated, experienced guess", but you still didn't answer the question "You just said there would be a dual intent. How in the hell could someone guarantee that in a puppy? crystal ball?"
  18. Considering a puppy goes through changes till adulthood, I would never sell a puppy as a "show dog". I doubt many breeders would either. You just said there would be a dual intent. How in the hell could someone guarantee that in a puppy? crystal ball?
  19. Any breeder that sells a puppy as a "show dog" has rocks in their head. "Show prospect" or "show potential" is the way to go. I wouldn't make any guarantees on fertility for a puppy either. If someone wanted a "show dog" then save your $$$ and buy a proven fertile group/show winning champion.
  20. The breeder is probably happy for the dog to be rehomed because of temperament issues. Pretty irresponsible of the breeder to not take back the dog and give a refund.
  21. Lisa, Did you report the dog? You should because next time, next dog the outcome could be worse.
  22. I enjoy taking my dogs to the cafes along eastern beach here in Geelong. It's very dog friendly along there. Plus the dog owners I've seen are very sensible with their dogs. I'm beginning to think QLD is an entirely different country to the rest of Australia.
  23. Yeah that is the point I was making. and yes I know SG The $1,200 they make off yogi compared to say $8,000 (correction his fee is now over $13,000) for a top stud who I'll initial as BL, who's stud performance has been very poor and dissapointing, according to grey owners/trainers I know. Grey litter registrations are way down compared to say the early 1990's (which is a good thing IMO). Back in the day of Chariot Supreme, having 6 bitches in 1 month was considered a really bad month, compared to a full book of 14 bitches. Off topic a bit but there you go.
  24. Doesn't matter how good a dog is, siring over 500 pups is not necessary to keep breed type. Whether it's a bad thing would depend on how sound the dog is. It would also depend on how many of the pups end up back in the pedigree gene pool. I'll tell you what though. 500 pups sired by one show dog is a drop in the ocean compared to some of older top racer greyhound studs (Chariot Supreme, Brother Fox comes to mind there). edit' grammar
