The City of Greater Geelong will be introducing compulsory desexing into the "Domestic animal management plan" of 2008. Will be introduced in year 3 of the plan (2011). Breeders will have exemptions. Be interesting if that is only ANKC breeders or includes ABN puppy farmers as well. Be interesting to see if the compulsory desexing actually goes through. I know a couple of vets in this area that are total leaches and would probably double their desexing fees if it went through.

ANKC registered pure breedist checking in. :D ......well also GRV pure bred greyhoundist checking in as well

Yes I to have whippets desexed at around $120 -$150 each. ......and yes to the questions that are going to follow. The vet does do blood tests, give pain relief, has modern equipment, uses proper anaesthetic techniques (I won't use a vet that uses benzo's with sighthounds), has a return check up in a week plus is the only reproductive specialist in the state. Be interesting to know that, as with other services, if demographics plays a part with fees. ie: richer areas v's working class areas and prices. I think ACA did a segment on this a few weeks back.

Maybe you should offer a $100 reimbursement on the desexing instead of paying for the whole thing. Even $100 is good incentive for puppy buyers.

This just keeps getting better and better.

I took quite a big break between show breeds and really noticed the difference. So between the early 1990's and 2003 I had noticed a big difference how people present themselves at shows. In 1990 if I had $1 for every person I saw wearing those god awful parachute material tracksuit outfits, I'd be rich. When I came back in 2003 most people made the effort to look presentable for the shows. I think it's a good thing. I like glam at shows. The Americans still reign supreme but the Aussies are catching up.

To All You Fellow Dog Owners - Do You Also Own A Cat?
whippets replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes I have 2 Birmans. Got them as adults from a cat breeder. Rio was imported from Norway (he has a norwegian accented meow :D ) and Holly is also an ex-queen. They own the house and don't put up with any crap from the dogs Everyone has their own designated area of the bed :D -
Jordyn reminds me of Gizmo from the movie "Gremlins"....to cute. Put a bit of water on him after midnight and see what happens

If you can't decide then the answer is no.

Apart from supporting BSL and not knowing the difference between bought and brought, a common problem, attacking peoples religious beliefs says more about the attacker than the believers. Ever read the bible? Make fun of that as well. Hate speech like the BSL supporters. I love your posts. Keep them coming Also it is people's....not peoples. Also a common problem. Not that I really care. I am not writing a thesis on a dog forum that is to be peer reviewed.

It's a well known fact that when Xenu landed on earth he bought with him a very perculiar looking 4 legged creature. Xenu was the founder of Scientology and the 4 legged creature became known as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

If I wanted it done I'd probably get it professionally powder coated. Why don't you just get a fancy cover for the crate instead? I wouldn't want my dogs dropping dead from licking spray paint off the frame.

All my inital contacts are via email. I don't put my phone number on DoL or my webpage anymore. I scrapped that when I got calls at 11pm and 6am in the morning, people phoning offering $100 for a "gud rabbitin dawg" and idiots wasting an hour of my time when I clearly state I have males only then they go on and on and on with the parting sentence being "well I want a bitch". If people don't like initial contacts via email then they can go elsewhere.

I clip my dogs whiskers. I don't touch my cats whiskers. They're an integral connection to their nervous system.

Grooming A Stafforshire Bull Terrier For Showing

Even in my own breed I am yet to see an outstanding example of a black (or black n white for that matter) or solid blue whippet in this country. There are some nice quality black n whites in the USA though. In regards to whippets, it is silly to specialise in a certain (or multiple) colours when the standard reads that "colour is immaterial". I had a judge screw his nose up when he noticed my whippet was clown faced. Fool. edit: typos , because I havn't had my morning coffee yet -
Yes Elcho park is very good.

Dog Show Trolleys - Which Brand Is Best?
whippets replied to Dante's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a jumbo lightweight aluminium trolley. Had it for 5+ yrs and it's still "as new". It's wonderfully light for someone who has the typical "nurses back" and bung shoulder. -

I don't think anyone is having a go at you. There has been some pretty informative things in this thread in regards to staffy colour and dilutes in general. Even I learned something about the staffy (amazingly so j/k). I didn't know the blacks were actually brindles. So there ya go. I went and saw Clash of the Titans today (Sam Worthington = hot btw) so I wonder if I can see the brindling if I put on my 3D goggles . -
I've had 2 negative experiences with that place. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the 1st time but the 2nd time...noope. Plus I got sick of the smart ass students.

Poodlefan, I'm talking whippets. But would it matter if it's a dilute of any breed? Dilutes don't have the gene for a black nose. I have seen darker dilutes that "appear" to have black noses but on closer inspection it is dark grey/blue looking. I can't speculate about your dog unless I saw him in the flesh. I was talking to a whippet breeder recently who had no clue that dilutes "didn't" have black noses, which I thought was odd..but there you go. ...and gimme the black staffy...thanks -
