  1. This issue applies to many breeds and not necessarily about the tail. Yes, some judges may be biased against a natural tail, but there are many judges that look past the tail and judge the dog for the dog. Even with breeds that have always had long tails, sure you have come across judges that may put up certain exhibitor no matter what your dog looks like. There are also exhbitors out there who are kennel blind and think their dogs are the ants pants and either say "my dog lost because it has a tail" or "I didn't win because the judge always puts up so and so". At the end of the day, it is a dog show and you pay for the judge's opinion and if you don't feel the judge was good, then don't enter under him or her in the future. Everyone loves their dog(s) and you are going home from the show with the dogs you love. In response to the orginial query, agree with Bisart that each state will require certain paperwork and make sur that the tail banding is done by an accredited bander overseas. Good luck with your new dog. Wishing you success, but more importantly, fun in the show ring.
  2. Hi All, I am hoping some DOLer were at the T&G Show at Erskine Park on Saturday 28 July 2012 and have a copy of the catalogue. I am after the catalogue information on the Dobermanns (Group 6 - Utility). Could you please let me know the names of the Dobermanns entered please. thanks in advance. KK Team
  3. I've never had problems with my Oztrails. I have the Deluxe 3 x 3 and purchased a Compact Deluxe, 2.4 x 2.4. The compact fits across the width of my car and is still good size considering I was only showing one dog. It's big enough for 2 or 3.
  4. Mine get a little crushed garlic two or three times a week mixed into their food. Like everything else, a little in moderation is beneficial. The following is from Dr Ian Billinghurst's "The Barf Diet"..... Supplementing Herbs - e.g. Garlic Another excellent supplement [more for dogs, although it can be given to cats in small amounts] is garlic. Garlic is a health building and disease-preventing herb for a whole variety of reasons. Garlic is nature's antibiotic, having been found to exhibit effective anti-microbial properties, inhibiting the growth of both bacteria and fungi. Galric helps stabilize blood pressure and boosts the immune system. It is particularly useful in treating and preventing upper respiratory tract infections. There are literally hundreds of herbs, which could be used by BARFers in the never-ending quest to produce maximum pet health. However, such a discussion is beyond the scope of this book and you should seek appropriate qualified advice if you would like to walk down this path. I think the choice should be yours and there are alot of conflicting advice not only on garlic but many varieties of food. Do waht is best for you and your pooches. cheers KK Team

  6. Hi All. Thanks for your responses. I'm not the one in question. I would not enter my dogs under the breeder. I didn't even enter a show where the breeder was judging sweeps and my dog was entered in the group. I think it is morally unethical, but if there are no rules against it, I guess that exhibitor will do as they please. I think it will be funny if the breeder didn't place that dog. Thanks KK Team
  7. Hi All, especially the Show Secretaries in NSW. Would like to pose a question to you. Are you allowed to enter a dog in a Specialty if the judge is a co-breeder of that dog in question? I have contacted Dogs NSW and they have referred me to The Rules and Regulations http://dogsnsw.org.au/members/member-information/regulations.html They said refer to 4.3 of judges. Extract Below. It mentions restrictions if the dog is directly or indirectly owned by the judg or if the judge has handled the dog within 6 months etc, but I cannot find anywhere it explicitly states that you cannot enter a dog under a judge who bred it. Thanks in advance for your feedback. regards KK Team
  8. Mystiqueview, thanks for the alternative product. I have used betadine on my other dogs when they have grazed themselves. I usually spray just before a walk so they cant lick at it and it dries. It also hepls that they aren't lickers like the "problem child".....lol. When I am at home and with her, she doesn't lick. When I'm not around and the combination if it getting itchy as it heals, makes her lick. Marion1, she licks when it starts to heal as I think it itches, just like us with scabs. She's one of the "determined" ones that has to get to the source of things......lol. I have regular check ups with the vet, and it's only when she licks, she causes some inflammation, which the vet then prescribes amoxyclav. It's healing up nicely with the combination of papaw cream and banadaging. There is white skin on the outer part and hair growing back, it's just the centre which is pinkish. The sore is not big, it's rhe size of a panadol tablet. She actually had a check up last night and vet is happy and said to her "don't lick and knock the sore". Koe, yes, I have used on the nose as well. Darkens it back up. Papaw cream is wonderful. Thanks to all who have provided feedback and suggestions. It's greatly appreciated.
  9. Thanks F11 and Marion 01. The operation was a while ago and it was healing naturally, with the help of bandaging and the Novaguard collar. But just as the skin is growing, she will lick it and then the skin might break. This has happened twice now. I was just thinking of using the Papaw ointment to help the healing process along. I think once the skin has hardened and hair has grown over it, she can lick till her heart's content. I know the papaya wont hurt her, but it's the incessant licking to get rid of it that causes the skin break, hence I though wrapping the wound to allow the ointment to work.
  10. Hi All, Just wanted to get people's opinion. I personally use Lucas' Papaw Ointment myself and found it to be a great product. I have also used it on my dogs when there has been a slight graze or to help promote hair growth. This is usually in a position where the dog cannot lick it off, e.g. tip of the ear or nose. One of my dogs had an operation and the wound was healing but then she licks at the wound and breaks the skin slightly. I keep it bandaged or she wears a Novaguard collar to prevent her licking the wound. The Lucas Papaw ointment says it can be used on open wounds. Has anyone ever used it on their dogs with an open wound or broken skin? Obviously, once I have applied it, I will need to wrap some light gauze bandaging to prevent her licking it off or rubbing the leg against the bedding to remove it. Thanks in advance for your responses and feeback. regards KK Team
  11. Hi Alyosha, I had the same problem with one of mine and I posted a topic http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/233646-preventing-wound-licking/ Dxenion suggested the Novaguard. I got one and I admit it's fantastic. It's like an Elizabethan Collar, only more streamlined and has holes for the ears to come out. Refer to this link http://www.provizorinternational.com/ I emailed the distributo for advice. Tasi was fantastic and I received my collar quite quickly and it has prevented her from getting to the wound and bandage. There are score marks on the Novaguard so you can trim it down. I left mine as the I also have the problem with long muzzle. To keep the wound dressing on, I used a wide elastoplast type product, It's quite flexible and adhesive. I find that its better for the dog if yiou wrap some gauze around the leg ontop of the dressing and then use the adhesive to stick it on the leg. The only reason I did this was less adhesive to skin and hair. I found a combination of both these prevented her from getting to the wound. It is slowly healing and when I am at home, I leave the dressing off to allow air flow and quicker healing. Only after the vet says it's ok to not have a dressing or bandage on. Pity you live so far away, I have have spare rolls of the adhesive. Good luck!
  12. I agree with Telida Whippets, the pads should be tough, but there shouldn't be any cracks. I know my dogs in winter may get a crack in the pad. I assume this is due to the cold weather and like our own skin can dry and get cracks which can be quite painful. If I notice any small cracks, I squirt some sorbolene cream in the palm of my hands and massage into the pad. Usually at night so it absorbs into the pads. I find this works quite well and the cracks disappear in a few days. If the cracks are quite deep and causing a lot of pain, see the vet to make sure there is no infection. Good luck.
  13. Hi Gabba, I use Repel X on the body and Fly Repella on the ears and top of their heads. I also agree with espinay2, the fly traps are fantastic in decreasing the population. Just hang them in a sunny position and away from where the dogs congregate. The smell in the mixture attracts them. Just be prepared for the stenc when emptying the contents and replacing the mixture. I have on occasion used Coopex as well http://www.bayeranimal.com.au/default.aspx?Page=50&ItemId=47 Make up the mixture on a sunny and not windy day. Put dogs and any water containers away and spray around the place. I usually spray on fences, walls of the house etc. It dries quite quickly and then dogs can be let out. We've been quite lucky in Sydney, has not been a hot summer and fly numbers have been down. Good luck. regards KK Team
  14. I believe TOTW is Taste Of The Wild http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/ Canidae is also quite good.
  15. Thanks Andisa. Yes. You should see her face when the E collar gos on. Like the world has ended............lol. I spoke to the maker of Novaguard yesterday and after a few messages and advice from Dxenion, I'm going to try Novaguard. Thanks All.
  16. Persephone - She is in a secura pen and not allowed out except on a lead for toilet breaks. I go home at lunch to let her out for a toilet break. There will be someone at home too keep an eye on her, but I can't expect them to sit there and watch her like a hawk. When I get home, it will be taken off as I will be able to watch her. I will of course take some time for her to get used to it before just leaving it on her. Jessca - she is currently using a 25cm Elizabethan collar. It fits perfectly around the neck, but not long enough. Happy if you could post or message me a pic of the 35cm. thanks again everyone
  17. Thanks guys. Really appreciate your feedback and suggestions. Dxenion. The Novaguard looks interesting and agree, it is more streamlined than an Elizebethan Collar. Pity there are no vets in Sydney that sell them. I might order one on line. Nowstarin. My girl is a licker and I don't think the spray will deter her. I just need the few days where she leaves the wound alone and allow the skin to heal and she should be fine. It's not an open wound and there's only a slight red tinge. I might try the muzzle as I can easily get that from a pet store and won't have it on when I am at home. Will order a Novaguard to have handy at home. Thanks all. :)
  18. Hi All, I did consider that and will give it a try. It just seems sad that she will have to wear it when I'm not home. Hey Ruthless, I've met you and your hubby before. Friend of Monika's. Tow of my dogs are sired by her Rex.
  19. Hi All, I hope I have posted to the right area. Just wanted to see if anyone has advice to help. My dog recently had an operation. Stitches, on the inner thight have come out. I need advice on preventing her from licking the wound. I have an Elizabethan collar on her (25cm), but when she lies down and curls up, even with the collar, she can lick the wound. She can wriggle out of bandages. I have tried a sock over the leg and thigh, but it slips down to her hock when she moves or lies down. Does anyone know if you can get Elizabethan collars that are longer in length? I think as she is a Dobermann, the standard Elibethan collars don't work as efficiently die to her longish muzzle. Any help or advice would be appreciated. regards KK Team.
  20. Hi All, Just wanted to see if anyone took photos from the Dogs NSW Christmas Show and would be willing to upload and share. It was a fun night with lots of decorated gazebos and fun activities for the kids. Unfortunately I forgot to take a camera with me. Looking for pics, especially of Santa and his sleigh/sled of Siberians. thanks KK Team
  21. I don't use any as I only show one dog, so it's easy. Try a fish tackle box. They have separate compartments and there are so many varieties to choose from. Yes, go the the jewellery box if you would like something special.
  22. I must say I have bene lucky. I have never had a missed entry even if I have sent it few days after the closing date. Whilst most of the shows I enter are Sydney based or surrounding areas such as South Coast, Central Coast/Newcastle, I have also entered shows in Yass, Rydal, Young etc and they have all arrived safely via snail mail. Touc wood that I have not jinxed myself. Fingers crossed that everyone's future entries arrive without any issues.
  23. Yorkpark, just noticed your post and apologies to all. Yes, the Compact Pavillion is 2.4 x 4.8. I got confused because it had the word "Compact" so I assumed they were the small ones. According to OzTrail website, http://www.oztrail.com.au/WebPage.gtl?Product=MPG-G49-A?currentgroup=ZZZ004?currentsubgroup=COMP the Compact Pavillion, only has two height settings and I don't think as strong as the Deluxe. But at $149, it's a great bargain.
  24. Eventingpony, there are alot of different sized OzTrail gazebos. I assume from the title that this is referring to the Compact, i.e. 2.4 x 2.4 metres gazebos. Have a look at this link http://www.amazonoutdoors.com.au/Product/Camping-Gear/Gazebo/OZtrail4/OZtrail-Gazebos but disregard the prices, just look at the specifications. I have the Deluxe Gazebo, (OZTMPG-GD24-A) which is the 3 x 3, but it is difficult to pack in the car. I have to put part of the back seat down to fit it in. The Deluxe versions are stronger than the Standard versions. I then discovered the Compact versions. There are two, the Compact Gazebo and the Deluxe Compact. Both are 2.4 x 2.4, so smaller. The Deluxe compact is stronger and has three heights, whereas the Compact only has two heights. When compacted down, they are different lengths as well (but considerably shorter than the 3 x 3 ones. The Compact Deluxe can fit easily across the width of my car. I managed to get mine for $149 and that's the normal price they have it for. So if you are in Sydney (Central Coast), check out http://campingmegastore.com.au/bluecart/products/oztrail-deluxe-compact-shade-shelter-and-market-stall-gazebo They also freight, but might not be worthwhile depending on where you live. I purchased one for myself a few weeks ago coming back from a dog show, but as it was such a great bargain, a friend asked me to get him 2 and someone else asked for another. My car was had 4 gazebos and a dog and my show gear. It took me a while to shuffle everything around to fit, but managed to get there.
