  1. Wild dogs around here are mostly dingo type ..sandy, B/T , erect ears .I hesitate to say "Dingo" for most of them ..bound to be dog in the line somewhere.
  2. The poultry forum I'm on is so sad - folks get chookies for the kids, or as a 'backyard garden/farm' in an inner suburb ..and the foxes will destroy their poor birds!! Honestly, until I started reading all that news, I had NO idea just how bad cities have it, with regard to foxes! I knew they were around ..but not either as many, or as unconcerned by human stuff ! Foxes coming into backyards in broad daylight ..foxes chewing the wood on those laying boxes one can pull out to access eggs ...then climbing in the opening ..foxes happily munching their way thru various gauges of wire ...then there are cats, of course .... I have a photo , somewhere , of a dead feral cat - arranged alongside the chooks it killed ..my gorgeous Plymouth Barred Rock pullets ..it was at night..and this cat just grabbed necks, and drank blood ... Feral cats climbed 30 ft up a silky oak tree and ate my last 6 guineafowl ... One of my pet goats was a newborn rescued by a neighbour from the jaws of a large feral tomcat ....thank goodness they don't grow that large in cities!! Keeping poultry in a backyard these days now involves something like this ! metal, electrics - (with floor) ! ( image from a US site ) I am thankful many years ago as a city dweller to have had my ducks in my backyard ..just locked in a quack-proof crate at night . Oh ..and I had the odd dog or two ;)
  3. Friends have a shack there ..the kids obviously enjoy it ..and the afternoon we spent there we didn't see one speedboat- which was nice - only 2 ducks, a pelican, and a young lad riding a bike on the other side ...
  4. Hmmm.. internet searches may unfortunately confuse the issue Other owners might have never seen this behaviour. DOL has many experienced people who have seen many many dogs /owners with problems ... BUT . NO ONE has walked with you and seen your dog's behaviour /your behaviour /the surroundings/other dogs' behaviours. Honestly , a few hundred dollars on ONE diagnostic visit may save you and your dog from confusion /a worsening of behaviours, and or injuries Finding the correct solution is so very tricky from owner descriptions alone ... believe me. taking this young man to has that niggley feel of him being set up to fail it can be ...IF the instructor is good at their job, that groups are managed well , and that 'problem dogs' get individual attention /assessment I do hope you can beg borrow or steal money to get professional help .
  5. Welcome to the Mind Of Dog!! it can be very frustrating - wondering WHY ... especially as some dog body language /expressions don't mean what we think . Your little dog has had 12 mths of life experiences. That's a lot . You do NOT know much of how he was housed/cared for /trained. You don't know if has been used at stud . if he has ever been attacked by other dog/s if he learned to respond a certain way because he was picking up atmosphere from someone who was with him ...
  6. ... no advice just now - but how disappointing , and difficult for you

  8. it is so sad now - 'people' have lost sight of the fact that dogs BITE , that kids & dogs shouldn't race around together ... and the legal minefield that comes about when accidents happen .... hard for families, and the dogs WM ..hope your friends can adjust to a new situation ... it's hard with a new bub , to now think about providing the mental stimulation this kelpie will need ..fingers crossed all will end well . Some years ago , a child visitor needed an emergency hospital visit after another visitor's dog reacted to being awoken with a child hugging its neck joyfully ... old dog was under elderly owner's chair ..semi dark evening ..owner deep in conversation ...turned away ... many apologies , a distraught owner ... and a family who said .."it's OK .. we didn't watch kid enough ..he has learned a valuable lesson ... " Child ended up with quite a few stitches , and a lip which could have been featured in a zombie movie ! ;) I so love sensible people . I do feel for all involved in this ...

  16. dogs! Poor Dulcie, She has a 'pup' again...such an amazing colour, too! She has had this same pup before, a couple of years ago!! Not sure where it's been !! It is being well cared for anyhow. She won't leave it,and has commandeered Don's outdoor bed. Dogs..... There is also an image of her & "pup" on a workday 2014!
  17. seems she may indeed be meant as a much loved pet ..she certainly has had the handling/socialisation .Whether instincts will stay quiet is another thing, but I'd give it a good go Well done in getting her this far!
  18. yeah..but take pics of bub like I take pics of littlies ..just a chubby hand ...or an ear ..or curls, or little shoes /back of head/buttons on cardigans ..maybe with an arm in sleeve - shows a lot of what is delicious about babies/kids , without being identifiable , and with no face ....
  19. Gorgeous boy ... that final decision is a terrible time ..I am feeling sad for you

  22. She was with a friend there .....in the Darling river . She loved me , as i let her rub her dripping wet self all over me LOL . The kids and her had a marvellous time in the water!! She spent most of her time on the floating beanbag, being towed along and talked to ..hahahaha... I took heaps of photos for both her owner, and the kids'parents
