  1. I had to grab it out of her rapidly chewing mouth ...weird creature , honestly! If one of her favourite plain bone shaped dog biscuits(yeah, yeah...) has touched anything else , or I hand it to her after I've patted a dog or something - she will not touch it - yet she grabs a $5 note off the ground , no questions asked !
  2. Vets are terrific at the medical side of things ..but NOT training/psychological stuff They have SO many species' bodies and illnesses to learn - they can't possibly fit the rest in as well ;) When you get the 'all clear' health wise - get back to us , and , if we can't help, someone WILL recommend a person for you to contact Pain can , as with us , make dogs a bit 'niggly' . she may also be resource guarding ..and You are the resource . NILIF was mentioned . It is a great concept ..and esp with dogs who have a sense of entitlement click HERE Hope all goes well at the vets - take a poo sample with you if possible .
  3. Hi Can you give us a bit more info ? What breed is your other dog ? how old? desexed? Is the Frenchie desexed? if not, when was she in season last ? What health problems has she - and if she is on medication , what is she on ? Do you know why she was up for adoption ? Are they both OK when out walking together /at obedience /at the park ? Hopefully we can help you all
  4. That's quite possible in bowls - our smallest containers are 10 litres ;)
  5. perhaps interest her in the 'swap' /gimme game ? I started doing this a few years ago - as I was/am not keen on chasing pups who had something they weren't supposed to . have on hand some yummy bits of something .. and a couple of toys ..not absolute favourites , but ones pup likes call pup ..pat her .. give her a bit of yummy thing ...to get her attention ,then give her toy - make sure she takes it in her mouth .NO command ...NO click , No nothing, except patting and , if needed open mouth gently and place around toy with much praise I say 'gimme' , or 'wanna swap?' show her yummy thing . as soon as she drops toy - she gets yummy thing . No matter if she sits/stands/or rolls over LOL repeat . This may be tricky as she has now learnt to avoid her toys someone else may have some ideas . All I can say is just play!! .Send the kids out with 10 balls - throw them everywhere - let pup chase them /look for them ...pick them up /hide them /throw them . Play tug . Put treats under flowerpots and let pup sniff them out .... there are heaps of things Fetch is fun ..but is one game I've not played with my dogs , really . They pick things up for me ...
  6. having to smile at some of these .... been there , done that in the city . here, it's river water ....or river water ......or none , and no one can afford to care if there are others' legs standing in it , or weeds growing in it , or kangaroo spit floating on it LOL . working away, there are troughs , or dams ,or water out of a large container The Boss carries ....
  7. new week again No, not part of a balanced goat diet ;)
  8. Nowdays, living bush , I don't need to worry, thankfully . When I am in THE CITY , & go out with my friend's dog , I am always on edge , just waiting for some -thing Luckily , the parks nearby are populated by regulars - mostly lovely dogs & owners , & they all pretty much know each other . It did make me smile ... my friend moved house ..I took the dog to a park ..and people were asking HER who she had with her LOL .The terrific kids' area is well fenced - there are also BBQ's , so something for everyone .
  9. Such a princess ... *sigh* yesterday , the sheep were close to the house , and he was on his chain for a while . there was some yowling and grumbling and carrying on which was unusual ..but on glancing out, I didn't see any snakes/lizards/avalanches or bunyips ..so ignored the noise. later on though, I discovered that he must have had a tummy upset with liquid results - and was a tad concerned by it all . .... This morning he was inside with me for a while - thankfully only climbed up on a chair ,and not the desk this time :P

  13. Not a bad article , really . http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-08/what-not-to-do-when-dog-is-off-leash/9061746 excerpt : Imagine bringing your dog to the local park and letting them off the leash when they spot another dog, or even a child, and run over for a sniff. You pet's tail is wagging, and it looks like they're having fun. That may very well be true, but what do you know about this other dog, or child, or how they may react when approached by a strange dog off-leash. One mother wants dog owners to take more responsibility after she said two large, off-leash dogs came up to a group of children at a birthday party on the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday. Off-leash rules Make sure your dog is under your control (for example, your dog will return to you when called) It's not a nuisance to other dogs and their owners Its droppings are disposed of in the bins provided It's registered with council, wormed regularly, and its vaccinations are up to date Source: Brisbane City Council "They [dog owners] had no control over their dogs," the woman, who asked not to be named, said. "What a lack of courtesy and lack of respect for local laws that also govern dog parks.
  14. It can do , yes! usually between toes though ..cos grooming /patting finds ones in normal body hair ...
  15. Great that it has burst .. it would have been very painful before that! Do you have a cat ? often abscesses are from a cat bite ..or maybe a dog bite ... Anyhow , it will heal up fine now
  16. Awwww.. A very sad time you've had , leading up to today's vet visit . So sorry . Lulu went with her wits intact - she was a bit wonky & very tired , but I'm sure she knew you'd make it all better . Run fast & straight now Lulu - catch up to those other DOL dogs x

  18. How terrible for you . I am so sorry you had to try so hard, spend so much, and eventually give your girl her wings ...
  19. The cashmere types went a long time ago . there are still saanen types - beautiful long lean frames, wattles under their chins , and nicely shaped heads ...mostly tho they are just scruffy, snub nosed specimens...
  20. I feel for the parents What a horrible thing to have happen - to lose control with fatal consequence .Been there, done that - terrible feeling It does seem that these dogs were accidents waiting to happen , sadly .
  21. @cavmad what has your vet said ( or another vet who is better suited to dealing with geriatric dogs? ) ?
