  1. Start of KC Allergies Foreign body Bump/injury to muzzle? Fungal growth If he had scabs..and a swollen nose..I would be leaning toward an injury of the bang/hit/bump kind, which may have damaged nasal bones or something? Hope you find the cause soon.
  2. No medical problem.... maybe something hard to detect? Like a change in vision or hearing capability? If all this is well checked out, then I too would suggest that there has been some sort of encounter with someone which has affected the dog.
  3. Hmm.. I'm not sure that he really DOES know he has broken a rule.... My guess is that his expression is a direct result of your body language. He interpets your body language and to him, it means something unpleasant Dogs can read ever-so-subtle changes in our posture, voice, eye contact etc, as this is how THEY communicate a lot of feelings. So, as others have said..he will not grow out of it, and the chook pen does need to be dog-proofed I found this info which may help you in that regard. http://forums.permaculture.org.au/viewtopic.php?t=950 Training info..you have been given some ideas, hopefully you won't have a repeat performance
  4. All I said was that I am confused as to why you need to give the vet a urine sample, when you said that blood was coming from the anal passage. Sorry if that seems rude..I was/am querying the vet's request, is all.Seems a bit odd, as you sy yourself. And, by the way, the bladder/urethra, and bowel aren't connected..... Hope your pup remains well and happy
  5. Oh.....glad she is ok... just that you said she was poo'ing blood..and now the vet needs a urine sample? Guess as long as it has stopped, and she's happy
  6. yep, Werribee would have been my suggestion.IMMEDIATE phone call, at least. Hope the puppy is ok, and that they can help.
  7. Oh, so sorry. There is a special place for working dogs ,with no dust. The sand is cool underfoot, and the sheep are woolly and biddable. Rams do not charge at dogs, there;) There is always a river in which to cool off, and there are no prickles to get in their pads
  8. Hi, Your puppy should be fed what she was having at the breeders Did they give you a list? This is to stop any tummy upsets in the first few days. If you want to change her diet, do so GRADUALLY , over some time. Most baby pups have 4 meals a day. A good idea is to have her vet checked now too..so the vet knows her, and can find any problems before they get worse, give you advice on worming, etc .
  9. Me, for one! I often go for a day or two on water/juice....have done for ages.
  10. You have already had her inside, and are doing good job of her training so far. Sudenly now plonking her outdoors is , IMO asking for trouble She will probably cry a LOT...then relieve herself where you don't want her to There is also the problem of a young dog left alone....without the security of you and the crate, she may not sleep as much, and will be looking for entertainment. By keeping her indoors now, you avoid her learning bad habits, like barking at noises, trying to escape, etc. Oh....now I am thinking you are going back to work soon..and she will be left alone all day anyway Hmm..another reason to kep her indoors at night.... ...so she does have the benefit of training with you near.
  11. Our adult dogs get one night a week without food, unless they are working:) Often in the summer they will voluntarily not eat for a day or two...
  12. Oh, Horus... 17 years worth of dog companionship and love is a pretty big hole to fill.
  13. I don't think I would cut her meals back..she is still very much a baby. Not being too familiar with GSD pups, may I suggest that bloat wouldn't be a major concern at this age? I am happy to be howled down! Just a thought... she sounds very smart, so yes, once there is no-one home during the day, a Kong or two , filled with food and a large raw meaty bone would both give her physical AND mental sutenance she will probably be looking for things to occupy her..and this way, she can put her energy and grey matter to use, finding herself a feed ! any photos?
  14. A thought... what are you feeding? Diet may affect how much comes out the other end
  15. thanks, Harminee. well, I played around..and came up with THIS one.Have printed it , and am happy
  16. Hmm.. I feel a bit embarrassed putting this up, really..but I am pleased..not quite the triptych someone suggested, but getting some interest in there also the rainbow bee..a pic I took, then ran a dry brush filter over it, then did an OOB ... I will improve
  17. Ouch! Guess she was attracted sweet taste? Hopefully the metamucil does the trick for you.
  18. "play dead" say prayers "go to sleep"..including head on pillow, blanket , etc
  19. I wouldn't ...foxes and cats usually leave the heads when they catch/eat chooks.....
  20. ""because I would end up digging up my lawn every time we go in the car."" you would only need a teaspoonful or less no need to excavate!
  21. Hi,,your baby (yes, he is still very much a baby) may just be "busting to go" after a trip..and the realxing , plus the bumping causes him to let go. Could you maybe, next trip..take a very small amount of soil with his urine smell on..put it down somewhere without his knowledge, then suggest he toilet near the spot? He may feel that it is ok to wee there, as he seems to have done it there before All supposition.... but my guess is the stimuli are just too strong for a full baby bladder to resist
  22. Hi..may I suggest that you ONLY give him some of favourite toys/treats when he is outside in the yard, with his collar onm, and the leash attched, and dragging behind him Play with him outside, feed him outside, all with the leash on (SUPERVISED). This way, he may associate the drag of the leash as being a GOOD thing. You can then pick the leash up, and treat him, etc. Walks should only be 5-10 minutes for such a baby.... that way he is still interested, and he isn't tired or sore. If you are going to carry him in a container of some sort, get him used to it for a few days FIRST leave it open, let him eat in it, play in it..so he isn't frightened. Pick him up in it for just a minute..praising him..and gradually increase the time. Looking forward to pics :D
