  1. was given 2.0 and recently .also 3.0 also use picasa.
  2. They can develop with amazing speed..and the skin exudes a HEAP of serum etc, so I guess a scab would form pretty quickly. This is assuming it IS a 'hot spot' Good luck at the vet's :D
  3. Hard to tell..but it sounds like a hot spot..a rapidly growing, painful area of infection. You have done the right things to help ;) If she has floppy ears and an elizabethan collar, this may ,unfortunately provide the 'bugs' with the ideal humid growing conditions ,tho. The vet may, if it IS this... trim hair away from the area and apply something to help dry it out, amongst other things. Not drastic... when I worked with Labs, we saw it a LOT :D
  4. Darn. My trusty little HP photosmart has died... I need a new printer NOW to do a few things by next weekend... we have a dick smith's in town..not much else, and they said for me to have a browse here... http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.fileread...logs/CTG0000874 , and they'd order in what I wanted. I have no idea, really. Print mostly 10x8 photos..need to be good quality as some are used for 'prizes' on local radio show, and some are as gifts. I would LOVE one with seperate colour cartridges, but they are really expensive, aren't they? Sorry..Tech ignoramus here anyone have any ideas? thanks:) EDIT! was just looking at this one ... anyone used it? How much is ink? http://www.canon.com.au/products/printers/...ers/iP4500.aspx
  5. well...sardine oil has made life easy, thank goodness! I put the drops in a small amount of sardine oil, and it goes down with hardly a worry
  6. Frank... to have a 'trained' dog doesn't HAVE to mean lining up at a class...not at all. YOU can do it at home, as part of everyday. Take bits of information from the threads on here..books at the library..converstaions with others... THEN for a set period each day, go thru some simple rules/ commands, until Bailey does what you ask WHEN you ask :D Simple. HE learns the rules, and YOU get a more thorough insight into how he is thinking . Dogs operate on a fairly obvious system. If I get REWARD..I'll DO it!! Reward can be an adrenaline rush... FOOD ( very strong one) praise from a human So...teaching then becomes very easy... dog is shown gently what he needs to do. REWARD Dog associates the action with reward... This is repeated....... Dog eventually DOES the action in response to Person asking/telling. Dog gets REWARD!! Dog is happy Person is happy a communication has been established, and for a time, dog and person are 'speaking the same language" You are lucky in having those dogs earlier in your life..they meant a lot to you, and sounded great mates :D None of our dogs are professionally trained either.....BUT they will do as we say .
  7. Vets should at least have SOME idea of what types of feeding regimes there are 'out there' !! Don't mind him..he probably does very well with whatever he sells
  8. I just received some mixture for one of our old cats..and have NO idea how I am going to get him to take it Our cats eat mostly rabbit carcases /roo meat , and a few bikkies..this stuff tastes incredibly strong and foul..and smells - so nowhere to hide it..they won't eat fish, and don't get any commercial cat canned stuff... as they don't like it. It also 'burnt' my tongue... this could be interesting, and uncomfortable...3 x a day!!!!
  9. frank... the poor pup was howling because he didn't know what was going on, and was upset at being locked away in the middle of a fun time He DIDN'T know he was "in trouble" as such. All he knew was that you were angry, and he was suddenly locked up. No Obedience training? I don't mean FORMAL, High-level obedience... but most dogs have a few minutes at least, in a day , when they are taught to sit, or come, or walk nicely on a lead... don't you do any of this? If you don't teach your dog the 'right' habits, and let him practice being 'GOOD"..how is he ever going to learn what is "wrong" ? Obedience sessions, or if you like, "life's Lessons time" are a good opportunity to get to know each other, and for the dog to get heaps of praise for doing things according to OUR rules Now, we live in the bush..have dogs which are outside as well, working sheepdogs. They never have to walk on a leash... or a lot of things a town dog does... BUT when they are puppies they DO have a couple of quiet one-on- one times each day where they practice sitting, coming when they are called, shown that they are not supposed to jump on us, etc. Some of it sticks BUT I believe that all pups need this little bit of one-on-one time, as a bonding and learning time, and a chance for us to communicate with each other. As said...your pup is reacting to the noise and movement, and he may not 'grow out of it', UNLESS he is shown/taught over a period of time, that behaving in a different way brings rewards
  10. Frank... this says it all... he is NOT really like a child. Dogs do not think like humans.. he sees things from a DOG perspective, and we humans have to try and do that as well . It isn't always easy, either ;) Also..your boy is now a 'teenager', and will be trying to assert himself more. You will get a lot of useful replies from here.. My suggestion is to try and treat him more like a dog, less like one of the children. Where does he sleep? Who does his obedience sessions with him each day? Who feeds him? Who walks him, and how/where? These things will help build a picture of where he fits in your household :p For now...keep him separate from the kids when they are outside...put him in the laundry or somewhere where he can't see what's happening, and get frustrated. Would it be possible for someone to walk him while the kids are outside? Maybe he shouldn't be always involved in their play...he is young , and dogs react to movement and noise...getting excited, and playing like a DOG...not to Human rules I am sure erny or one of the other wise people here will help you and your pup! ;)
  11. I think he's just telling everyone that you are HIS...
  12. [ I 'third' it... Hope Lou feels better once the abscess( from what you've written) bursts. Poor boy..
  13. WE have always fed RAW bones...for the 50 years of ( multiple) dog- keeping I remember. Not once have we had a bone-related problem... *touch wood* Our dogs, tho are USED to this, I guess, from 3/4 weeks they get bones, and it is the base of their diet..meat on bones.ALL sorts.. from poultry, rabbits, goats, sheep, beef, pig....kangaroo... I am not saying that this is a reason to feed ALL dogs bones.. I believe now, that there are many dogs who cannot properly eat/digest bone. This, along with allergies and food intolerances is part of modern breeding/life... much the same as us humans. Dogs were originally made TO eat their food raw, 'on the bone'.... some are still lucky enough to do so safely :D So... if it works for you and your dog/s DO IT!!
  14. Yep he may have eaten something a bit different..had his routine altered slightly.... they are babies, and it happens.
  15. AS long as your dog has a warm dry kennel, and is used to the chain, I don't see too much of a problem. If he is NOT used to being chained for long periods..you really do need to think about where he can sleep /rest for a few days. he could get upset and do more damage Give him extra things to chew..an extra treat ball or something, and try and have hime with you over the weekend as much as you can. You will need to somehow stop him licking/chewing stitches tho, and putting one of those elizabethan collars on a chained dog is not the ideal Speak to your vet. They will probably have some spray that you can spray AROUND the wound to stop him worrying at it.
  16. well..the vet SHOULD know..... maybe do some googling... how much did he get? The vet would have worked out a dose, I guess...
  17. IF you give him panadeine..make sure you have a vet emergency number..I have heard that dogs can react badly to both paracetamol AND codeine ! I am surprised that the vet didn't give you a painkiller designed for dogs
  18. I just wish we had more concrete /lawn , instead of sand.... the kongs bounce and roll beautifully on harder surfaces, and the pups love that!
  19. Mine are on the highest (5.1) ..heavily culled, and offfloaded to CD's every month.
  20. Thanks troy! This'll be a good spot to store info. May I be a bit selfish( or perhaps there are others out there;) ) I love looking at photos that you clever folks do...but my download speed here is dismal, and most times I have to forgo the pleasure. Could people just consider the size of their pics, and maybe cut them back a bit? There are SO many terrific shots I never see
  21. I agree..a habit a lot of people think is funny..but one to be discouraged, IMO. Distractions, lots more mental stimulation like treat balls, 'thinking' games, lots of very short obedience session thru the day Never had the problem, but would perhaps a water pistol help? That way it wouldn't be a human doing the correcting...but a sudden dousing with vinegary water may bring the session to a halt...THEN..when attention is diverted..an odedience session, ending on a high note, with lots of praise? Just suggestions...
