It all depends on the dog's size, I think. A border collie or lab may well try and swallow a chicken wing whole.. but a smaller dog/pup would need to chew it before hand. Just a thought.............

Raw chicken/turkey wings, chicken frames, roo tails, lamb brisket/flaps/necks (UNCUT) .... I didn't think you would be still giving her a chicken neck after the scare ... if she DOES swallow it.. you cannot really grab it out of her throat in a hurry.....give her BIGGER / odd-shaped bones which are less likely to be swallowed whole

Do you feed your dogs fruit? Very occasionally If so, which fruit? Apples, pears , bananas, watermelon What do they love? All of the above What is their favourite? Watermelon, probably What is really good for them? Don't know... Dogs do not really NEED fruit.. and some fruit can be bad for them Ours only get it occasionally... once every couple of weeks or so...

Not really... he growls..he gets to keep his toy... he runs, you chase. HE is dictating the game rules!!!! Not a good thing, to let a teenage male tell YOU what to do Give him things he can chew ..kongs, bones etc. these are 'his'....to vhew, not play chasey with. Toys you want to put away... as said..teach him to 'swap' All ours will 'swap'.. toys, contraband, meat,bones... and it makes life so much easier! Use a key word..swap. gimme, leave... whatever. Do NOT attempt to grab!!! show him the really yummy treat.. make sure his attention is on it, and you. get down to his level.... offer the treat..say your keyword.. and the INSTANT he gives you, or drops the toy, praise him, and give him the treat.Even if you don't pick the toy up first go..you have taught him that it's Ok to let go... you are being 'fair' :D Soon..he will willingly offer up HIS prize for praise/treat I always say to my dogs... "I'll put this away for later".... When they hear that, they don't worry, and know that, for now, the game is over.

Hamlet threw up the night before last... with part of a plastic SPOON in it he is such a garbage!!!!

Skin things are tricky It is odd that the area is defined, as allergies ,AFAIK can make a dog 'all-over' itchy. A word of warning.. with the anti-histamines.. be careful if they make him drowsy!!!! if he is a working boy..his judgement/reflexes may be 'off'..and he may well make mistakes, or not be as alert. Until you can get him to a vet for skin scrapings, etc.. include some LOW/NO acid Vit.C powder or tablets in his food . ( probably a human dose...)
-
Hi..if he is having breathing difficulties.. I would ask the vet to do it as soon as he is strong enough...(and desex him at the same time, as suggested ) Hope it all goes well

Newbie Looking For Gastro Advice
persephone replied to shauna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Glad he's doing better.!! Scourban will certainly firm him up... but unless a cause is found and treated, it may not be a 'cure'..and he can't stay on it forever . Hopefully tho..it will give him a chance to heal..and maybe put on some weight -
Don't forget..it may have been an infection/temperature, plus pain causing him to feel so bad... ..... I don't know if it's different with dogs..but if/when I get hives..I get shivery, and irritable, and very 'flat'. Glad he is on the mend again!! ps: keep some ester C or calcium ascorbate handy.. a hefty dose can help with allergy.

Hip Dysplasia ~updated With New Pics~
persephone replied to Ahona's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
he can be castrated any time from now on .... Maybe look around for a vet who is into orthopedics, and ask their opinion? -
cold black tea.... works well for minor eye probs just wipe each eye with a(separate) soaked tissue/swab so that some tea does actually drip into the eye . Do this a few times a day, and see how it goes brolene can be very useful, as well!

Hip Dysplasia ~updated With New Pics~

I would also suggest and xray now, then you know exactly what you're dealing with(or not) The vet may be off the mark...... or he may be spot on. Unless you look at the joints.. you will be worrying unknowingly he is cute..and I love his name! -
When Hamlet and our guys play..you could swear there is blood being shed! Some dogs growl and play fight very loudly. Your two 'may' be having the odd scuffle ..they are still a very new 'pack'..and will be sorting themselves out. All I would suggest is to make sure they both are tired when you leave..and urge you not to leave any 'high-value' toys with them.... maybe ask neighbours to record any fight noises? Hope it's only loud play

I Glad she's eating well It still may not be a good idea to give her chicken necks :D cut in pieces is not ideal..they don't get much of a crunch on the way down... and a crunch or two is sufficient to start the digestion of the bone.. breaks it up, so there is more surface area for gastric juices to work on :D
-
:)She is not thinking...she is simply acting as a DOG. Dogs do sit in the rain... especially ones with thick coats dogs do gulp their food... with chicken necks..it is unfortunate that their dimensions match that of a dog's oesophagus The vet is probably correct... and it will be broken down safely.....chicken bones are from 'baby' chooks..only around a couple of months old..so aren't hard and dense...
