  1. It's not hard- if even I can do it ... and it's fun!
  2. What metamucil are you using? if it is flavoured- well- I can see why he won't eat it the actual psyllium husks ( from pharmacy/health food shop)can be mixed with food- no taste- and just a bit of texture.all our cats/dogs wuill happily eat them in food .
  3. How excitement!! Found out a bit more on how to use text to better impact. here is my second attempt I am looking forward to playing more!!! This is fun ( have foot probs atm, so cannot walk much- more time to explore photoshop!! ) some more I did this afternoon .. s'ok- I am a rank amateur, but enjoying the fun bits!! Humour me , please
  4. I would second the using of more shorter walks!! That way she won't get worn out and need to be carried! This will break up her day.. and use up energy a few times, not just one. Also- obedience training, teaching tricks... all very good for tiring a puppy-and making for a better behaved one! make sure tho- training sessions are short, and always end on a happy , positive note
  5. Hi, and welcome. A 4 mth old B/C pup in an apartment ........Hmmmm. Without seeing the dogs' body language, the setup, etc, it is hard. My recommendation would be to contact a behaviourist ASAP. This pup may not be the dog suited to you and your lifestyle- or you may just need to have a better understanding of what makes her tick! Either way, a professional opinion will help. Where are you situated? is your pup receiving lots of exercise/mental stimulation?Being a border, she will need lots of both to keep her settled A tired pup is a GOOD pup!
  6. yep ) no spoon feeding! Or sympathy NORMAL food is put down- then taken away if not eaten. No hides/treats until she is eating her normal food If after a couple of days she is still not eating- vet visit! perhaps she is just not hungry, perhaps she was fussed over after her spey, and is looking for it to continue- perhaps she is unwell.... see how it goes . Hope she is eating well soon!
  7. Oh Hope it sorts itself out quickly- that's not a good thing at all
  8. Sounds a bit odd to me- what does the vet say? Poor girl :D
  9. Each dog/relationship is different. With my old Mitch, some years ago- at age 12,he was still mostly bright, hungry and tail-wagging BUT he had many growths under the skin, and these had multiplied- had more than a few cases of bowel incontinence over a week or so- when he would get so embarrassed he was sore in his joints- and just not himself. I made the decision, he had a bath, and went over the bridge with thoughts of rabbits in his head, and tail wagging. When you think she is finding life more of a struggle than a game- When she needs help for the simple things When she starts to 'close down', and not join in, then have a hard think. I would never leave things to mother nature--- not if it involved pain, incontinence and confusion, or starvation....
  10. yep... try more raw, with some oil supplements... and don't bath him again for a while- bathing can remove oils from the skin. Contacting the breeder could be a good idea!
  11. Hmmm.. when she is in YOUR space- she has taken over, and is happy to get attention ;)On HER terms! When you want her to 'do' something- she won't! Simple really- :( She needs to learn that bed/couch/ lap time is on YOUR terms, now- and to get these privileges, she needs to come/sit, and listen to you. I would suggest that any food she gets, or praise, or pats is ONLY given when she obeys you- even if it is just a sit (not a stand up or beg), or to come to you, and LOOK at you Just do this many times a day- don't try and pick her up, or anything - just get her to simply approach you, then wait until you praise/ treat her. Gradually then, you can do more...
  12. Hi Could you give us a bit more info? What food are you feeding him? How much per day? When was he last wormed? is his poo 'normal' looking? Do you bath him? In what?
  13. The horse arthritis stuff is ok (I take it as well ) The cat stuff is disgusting... but will be eaten when mixed with canned fish. The human stuff is foul-but ok if swallowed quickly! You will probably have to mix it with something very tasty/strong smelling..or syringe it in directly-followed by a treat!
  14. They look awfully big for 5 weeks! At 5 weeks, they would almost fit in one hand still, if they were a small breed, wouldn't they? faces look very 'grown-up'. They are cute-hopefully all goes well at the vets
  15. If she has an allergy- I would think she can have the tests.... ask your vet-or get a referral to a specialist. Have you asked her breeder if anyone else in her 'family' have a similar problem? That may be of use to you... Food colourings can be a trigger-I had a dog who was allergic to them-and grass.
  16. Why is he on a/b's ? maybe it's her illness causing the vomiting? if she is vomiting, perhaps staying away from things with a high fat content will help..... either way..phone the vet and check - vomiting also may mean that the full dose of A/B's isn't being absorbed properly.
  17. best of all- have her allergy tested-then you will know EXACTLY what the problem is , and can then work out strategies. It could well be something in her food. Food colourings/preservatives/cereals.. Or something on the carpet/bedding deodorants/cleaners/disinfectants....
  18. and how can you tell ? if he has an infection... he will be in some pain... but it won't be severe enough to make him cry, or sit shaking in a corner ... dogs cover pretty well. It will be interesting to see what the vet says- whether it's infection, or a 'mechanical' problem, or ? let us know after you have been - hope it clears up soon!
  19. Travel safe, Schack and Will. Sorry, shelbyville

  23. Hi, Jen. Ok.. Is this happening Inside In the yard When out Walking At the start of a walk During a walk On the footpath In a park At particular spots After being asleep After being inside Anytime Off lead On lead Around other dogs When alone before a 'proper' wee after he's had a 'proper' wee Is he drinking more/less ????????? Gives us a few clues
  24. Hi... It's great that your pup is so socialised already, but there is a down side :p Walking to school with such a young puppy may be a bit risky, for a start... she isn't protected yet by her vaccines.. not until a couple of weeks after her final ones, at around 16 weeks . Dogs still wander along footpaths, and urinate/defecate there, so the chance of picking up disease is there :p Running on lead is ok, providing she also knows that walking on lead is normally by your side, and not pulling. personally , I don't recommend playing chasey... what if a child visits who is wary of dogs, and while running, the pup chases her ? It also encourages the pup to chase kids, which may then lead to puppy play behaviours like nipping! No doubt others will be along to explain it better What breed is your pup? Any photos? :p
