  1. That sounds a very good plan! feed her a few times a day- make her sit and wait-- lots of praise for finishing her food...
  2. You have done very well- both of you!!
  3. We don't have tennis balls- I will have a think now- good idea, btw!!
  4. Glad you were with her to help her over the bridge RIP Kirah
  5. Honey needs some time, some guidelines, and lots of consistency- praise and correction at appropriate times, and a belief that she will get there !!!! (just like a human child who is behind the eightball at school--- baby steps- get one thing done properly at a time ...) BREATHE......................
  6. :D- hope it is something which can be fixed....
  7. Oh,Dear---- first up- are you saying you locked pup in the laundry with the machine going??? :D Poor pup. The noise in a confined area would not have been good at all. No wonder she won't go back there- it was her 'safe' area- now it is not. Honey is institutionalised, and retarded in her devleopment. May I recommend you give us your location so someone can recommend a trainer/behaviourist for you? Very good advice can be obtained from forums like this- but 1:1 sessions with a professional are the best way to go,I think. One thing I will tell you- do NOT cuddle or 'comfort' Honey- this is ,in effect, praising her for being fearful/howling, etc. Give her HEAPS of quiet praise when she is being bold and settled .... It's hard to NOT comfort a tiny shivering thing- but dogs aren't human bubs, and it works differently Glad you have come here- you will get a lot of useful info with which to work!
  8. Another cat called away suddenly So sorry- R I P Angelus
  9. ;) At 11 weeks she is plenty big enough to enjoy chewing bones! The bigger necks, and wings may be better- less likelihood of her gulping down chunks! Turkey necks may be something to consider as well- whole chicken carcases, or pieces of lamb flap -with bone in. Unless a pup is very tiny, I am scared of using chicken necks- their diameter is almost the same as a dog oesophagus- and can be gulped/swallowed, and become stuck :p This becomes a higher risk if the necks are cut into sections... these sections are easily swallowed.... Not really- IMO-dogs don't need things made with flour You may enjoy reading thru THIS THREAD - It will get you thinking!
  10. and------------- your dog has picked up on this- so he may be 'getting in first' best get a behaviourist in- to assess and explain the communication sent&received between you, your dog, and other dogs/humans.
  11. I agree- MUCH better something which can be treated/avoided I had an allergic dog for years & years ..no fun for anyone
  12. snotty noses aren't the norm- so get it checked
  13. urk fungus? yeast? Dunno- sorry...
  14. What a gorgeous looking boy - I am so sorry for you, labRADor .
  15. Altho feeding a puppy with diarrhoea isn't a good idea - It is a good sign that he has an appetite Hopefully the vet will be able to help. *It is the usual protocol to withhold food for about 24 hrs to give the gut a rest- then just feed easily digested ,bland food, like boiled chicken and rice, for a while....
  16. I have it tucked away for future reference- love the way it's all explained
  17. That's a good start! I only talk to, pat, our guys if they have done what is asked of them
  18. It sounds as if she needs more tests/scans to find out what's happening- poor girl.Basically , feed her whatever she wants and can fit in!! Thinking of you...
  19. I did email you- but THIS is interesting
  20. Hi- diarrhoea is a worry in puppies, as they go downhill rapidly. It can be simply from change of diet too rapidly, or it can be a very serious symptom. definitely see the vet!! Don;t forget to tell the vet exactly what pup was fed at the rescue, and since you have had him, what worming treatment he has had, and what vaccinations he has received. A puppy from a rescue may have picked something up en route- eating a kangaroo leg on teh farm seems an unlikely cause- our puppies eat all sorts of dead things, and don't seem to suffer! It would have been more responsible for the rescuer to not rehome a puppy with diarrhoea best of luck with him...
  21. Anal glands have emptied, or are leaking.... What does she get fed? have you ever had her anal glands expressed at the vets or anywhere? Anal glands express when a dog is very frightened, often. usually they empty when a dog defecates- and transmit the dog's scent onto the droppings. Modern diets often don't contain enough bone/fibre to produce nice firm stools to help squeeze out the glands .. so the glands then fill up, and either leak, or need to be emptied Your vet or groomer will show you how, if needed- , or perhaps she needs a slight change in food ...
