My 15yo Gsd Is In Hospital Tonight
persephone replied to Kelpie-i's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
So sorry.. :hugs: Hoping that you get answers tomorrow, and that your dear old boy is comfortable tonight. -
A fairly stressful experience for her Have you been working in conjunction with a professional trainer/dog psycholgist/behaviourist- whatever they are called over there? If not, please book an appointment. You could benefit from some one on one professional advice about now- to keep improvements happening!

Oh dear But I have to @ the werewolf suggestion!! URK. Hope he returns to normal sleeping soon,. for all your sakes
-
she would put weight on eating maccas too! cooked chicken and rice, while useful for sensitive stomachs/invalids- is not a dog food, really! Your dog would probably benefit more from a higher proportion of red meat/bones/ a selection of fatty meat cuts to keep her weight up ....UNLESS she has ongoing health problems . Chicken can be fed- raw... as can fish.

Ok- so the vet just said it may have been worms? Hopefully her immune system will handle the vaccination ok- and continue to improve!
-
it could also be the hotter weather, making her restless....

Hi. Hope your pup recovers quickly and fully :D I don't know much about meningitis---- but would assume that an infection so close to the brain could instigate some change in behaviour.. due to inflammation/swelling, putting pressure on parts of the brain? What did the vet say about these behaviours? I would be getting him some kongs,etc- and filling them and freezing them, so he can occupy himself without needing walk/active play as much... he may be well be responding to loss of freedom... but it may also be due to the disease... sorry, can't help any more.

Wondering Something About Feeding Rmb
persephone replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Oh :D I guess IF the breed is predisposed, or that 'family' has had problems- then, feeding a lower fat diet would be the way to go Boy---- many years ago- when money was tight, and droughts etc... our dogs were fed on fat... melted down, with stale bread mixed in!!! and survived til better times  -
Oh-- so they tuck tails 'under' and sit that way? LOL funny little bricks they are!
-
Sure it's not a fungal/bacterial infection? May be worth getting it looked at-the skin may be permanently damaged- or she may need some meds to help! Hope she is hairy soon! :D

Swelled Vulva? Is It Called The Vulva?
persephone replied to paddles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Phantom pregnancy- or ... way out in left field- and only thought of because of the timing- about 6 weeks after being in season... pyometra ??? Not a nice suggestion- but the timing is about right... Hopefully it's just vulvitis or a burst of hormones... -
If he has always been smelly- then a vet check may be needed- the vet can check anal glands, his penis, perhaps, in case urination is not being done 'cleanly'... and also can check him for a yeast infection.

WE need another poll question - 3 is not enuff!! I would have liked to include a mix.... It is good to see what everyone does, and how it works for them
-
I put a box in for you
-
This just interests me have fun! play nice! Option now added for dogs with health problems needing mince!! Apologies
-
sweaty feet? anal glands- are they perhaps seeping? retained baby teeth?
-
She looks beautiful- sorry you had such a sad Christmas

he is not of a retrieving breed- and a bit young yet anyway... for fetching balls. He has to learn to come to you first--- just use his name for when you want him to come... plus something like "here' , or "come", or "to me"....no need to run and make noises... that (in my opinion) encourages him to chase.. Puppies explore.. they sniff...especially beagles!! let him have his sniffing /running time.. then, when you KNOW you can control his movements on the leash, or indoors- call him ,get him to sit.. reward him...that way he is set up for success!!! What toys does he have? Have read of these sites-- I don't know how 'good' they are... but they may be of help. LINK 1 LINK 2 LINK 3 LINK 4

Number one- he's a beagle Number two - he's a puppy Number three - he's a beagle Number four- he's playing! babies of all kinds vocalise while playing--- it's a part of growing up! puppies are NOT silent . AFAIK beagles have voices which are used often........ So- what is his routine? does he have running time out on the grass?Puppies need time running around and playing how many little training sessions do you do each day? Do you play things with him?
-
so sorry.

I am so glad you have a vet visit tomorrow. was the puppy food "optimum" brand? make sure you describe to the vet the conditions where you bought the pup- explain that all the pups had the diarrhoea- and explain also exactly what you are feeding- scraps/treats... everything! If the pup has not a vaccination- (you haven't yet answered that question)... check with the vet before vaccinating a sick puppy!! often puppies who are sick cannot cope well with the extra stress of a vaccination.. and get more ill best of luck for you and 'leigh' tomorrow!
