  1. It does not sound a good place for inexperienced owners/dogs :p Not having been to an obedience club for years... don't they have standards, and all teach the same methods? Way back when... I thought they used to all teach the same things, in much the same manner.... while all being individual, of course.
  2. That's all I ever use... and have trained many many dogs that way... using heaps of praise too, of course.. but no food treats :p It needs to be done gently.. and like with any exercise, on soft surfaces, and in a relaxed manner... It usually doesn't take many goes... Th 'alpha' roll... yep- dangerous if used as a physical show of force by someone who knows no better... :p
  3. Those cat toys can also be placed in a clear plastic bottle... or a net bag .. and activated... she will then grab whatever it's in! Think like a dog.....if it moves,is small enuff, and makes a noise... chase it!
  4. Hi- I have never used pre made BARF patties etc.. just check on the fat content!! You may be better buying raw bones/meat etc yourself.. and making meals from scratch... to suit requirements.
  5. Hi.. sorry to hear the news :p You may find it helpful, and a comfort, to read THIS thread. :p
  6. Can you please fix your poll... you need to put an option in for NO voters in the second box... and an option for YES voters in the third... PLUS.. an option for flat collar ! :p
  7. WildAt Heart... have you tried her with something fluffy and flexible... or , to start, a wind-up cat toy mouse or something?
  8. ahh.. he may well be reacting to acid irritating his empty stomach... Will he eat a snack just at bedtime ? My Kieran used to do this when young.. every morning, he would wake up, and throw up I started giving him a bedtime snack..and this helped. Whatever you are feeding may get digested too quickly- leaving his stomach empty.. not sure. will he eat chicken?or lean lamb? A piece of meat at bedtime may give his tummy something to work on during the night, and sop up the acid...after all. that's what it's there for
  9. RAW meat/bones are terrific for dogs.. and they usually LOVE them!! Your pup will have a great time with raw chewy bones. A tip... after giving one to your pup... as he has never had them before.. do NOT try and take it away from him... just leave him outside or somewhere so he can enjoy it in peace. As he has not ever had a bone before, he may be a bit posessive... so just leave him be.
  10. Our pups start on bones at about 5 weeks bones are ideal for teething pups, as, like I said.. they help remove loose teeth!! I also mentioned chicken wings, and lamb brisket bones. You could also use kangaroo tails, chicken frames, or oxtails... just remember, to NOT cut bones into smaller pieces! leave em as large as possible
  11. Hi- at that age, he could well have a retained baby tooth which is decaying ... or a tooth not coming thru properly. Does he get lots of chewy bones.. like chicken wings/lamb brisket bones? These are able to be completely chewed up, and will help remove any stubborn teeth!
  12. A dog vomiting every day is not normal. When does he vomit? Mornings? On an empty stomach? Straight after a meal? No particular time? How many meals a day is he on?
  13. First thing- block her access to beds until she's learnt the correct routine. next- go back to the basics... taking her out every hour... etc etc etc.. She may also have a urinary infection....which a vet check will rule out, or treat with antibiotics.
  14. Ok- not being at all into agility- competitive training/games with dogs... Is it just for training purposes people are wanting dogs to tug, etc? Personally, I am very happy if my dogs aren't pestering me with toys, or racing about ..I am certainly not looking to teach them how! Guess my bit of 'training' is more to keep the dogs calm and slow them down... opposite of what is required for dog sports, etc. *as you were.... rambling over*
  15. When we don't have meat.. we use Great Barko .. the dogs do really well on it,and it's cheap
  16. So sorry ... you wrote a lovely tribute
  17. I agree- it could be a yeast infection... How often do you comb her coat out? The double coat will hold heat/dirt.... What sort of bedding does she have? Does she chew her feet? has she any anal gland problems? If anal glands are over full, and seep... this smell travels all over in no time flat ...Yuk! edit to add- yeast/bacteria can be quickly transferred from the anal region or feet .. to the rest of the dog by licking.. and sleeping curled up ...
  18. I agree- putting an ointment on the area will only make him want to lick more to remove the 'foreign' substance If you find he has reactions onj lips etc...try what I used to do with mitch... wash his feet/bum/ears in malaseb or similar every couple of days... this stops bacteria being transferred from one to the other, and used to cut down the irritations markedly!!
  19. Glad he's better . Just as a reminder.. continued forceful vomiting like that is not a stress thing!! Cutting a dog's nails would not cause such a violent reaction!! may I also suggest that you get a groomer to do his nails- he will probably be much better behaved for them keep him on bland food for a day or so... and hopefully he won't eat whatever it was again! :D
  20. Just wondering how things went last night,reality22? Very scary ,so late at night, especially if you don't drive.
  21. Not all dogs enjoy retrieving- if she likes stubby holders- buy her toys that are of similar material to start with She may well enjoy softer toys... rope ones, or soft animal toys...
  22. oh how tragic. poor poor dogs ....
