  1. One of our resident apostlebirds ... using Rudolph as a perch from which to harass me while I hang out washing .
  2. Awww... that is a really lovely photo, too.
  3. renting makes everything more difficult
  4. LOL... if it were my yard ? get rid of the bark & stones .They can be very dangerous .been there, done that . Puppy enjoyment/enrichment would come first with me ;)
  5. I have bolded this, as it is important . here are some quotes from reputable sources ..page links provided . RSPCA K9 pro dog training Honestly, living in a crate all night, and then most of the daylight hours seems counter-productive to puppy development - esp. for a gundog ..a dog bred to be strong, quick minded and very active Perhaps I know different people, but I know no-one who leaves their dogs(esp. pups) in crates all day while they are at work. You have sourced information from different places ...and feel this is a suitable way to raise your pup . being a first time dog owner can be terribly convoluted :P there are a million different ways to put down a bowl of food, it seems! I'm going to use an example ... someone has a baby ..all cute & gurgling in its cot ... Baby gets left in its cot ..then a larger cot .Baby only gets taken outside for a few minutes a couple times a day , and down to the shops every so often . Baby misses feeling and hearing the wind ..of watching a day's different light changing . baby doesn't become comfortable with different textures on its skin..and misses the different flowers and grasses , the chance to chase butterflies and baby misses out on the very important skills of trying and learning to do things alone ..to dig/jump/roll/lie like a frog in the grass, and gain confidence . You are doing very well with training ..it takes time it IS just so important though for any youngster - be it elephant, human or dog to learn how to just "be" ..to self play ..to be calm by choice , and to be able to run off energy in a safe space Willow is a lovely name , and I hope you both enjoy your time here at D O L !
  6. Ronnie ..your owner is now setting forth on a home-schooling routine ;) You are a fortunate lad . Your owner cares so much that she sought advice ..and is now working on new things to help you learn ..to help you control your teen impulses, and to show you how wonderful your relationship can be Enjoy!!
  7. mackiemad's suggestions here are spot on Doing 'work' - working his brain ..learning, practicing ,will indeed take the edge off , when combined with decent walks ..and some 'calm down exercises as well The more running and playing a dog gets ..the fitter they get, and the more running and playing is needed to physically tire them ;)
  8. if you go back to the links I sent .. this signifies that in this scenario Ronnie places a greater value on these dogs than he does on you ... 'socialising' is a fine line . pups/dogs need to learn doggy manners , acknowledge other dogs are there , while believing their OWNER is the provider of all things wonderful ..the only source of treats/home comforts and leadership . Owners are to be listened to and looked for and focussed on , no matter what other dogs are doing
  9. did you read from the links I sent ? he is well & truly socialised with dogs . He ,sadly, has bad manners though.
  10. OK .... What type of daily training routine does Ronnie have ? How many short sharp training sessions each day ? Which are his favourite interactive toys/puzzles? How does he get his food each day ? Does he get two walks a day ..one, or just the park run ?
  11. Welcome teenagers!! have a read thru these links ..and around the site generally I'm sure a lot of what you see will help you understand what's happening. and what (not) to do . Sadly ..each time your lad does this, ..like those irritating human kids who poke/pull hair , say rude things , a strong reaction increases the effort put in It is their REWARD..and is doing the victim harm some psychological harm each time . You seem willing to put in the work ..and it will be lovely when he grows up to have a handsome AND self-controlled big lad at your side :D LINK LINK
  12. thanks, Roova ..it's Ms feral . She is one of 3 who live around the house paddocks ...and have some degree of immunity ( so far)
  13. ..and , it's finally Autumn .
  14. new week ! missed last one .... face of a Feral
  15. hello - this an impossible thing to answer with no information The BEST thing would be to take him to the vet and make sure he is not sick . perhaps check his eyes and ears too . If he is all healthy - then maybe we can help with some training help ? How old is the dog ?
  16. ooh... a whole salukigorgeous thread Saluki hooning = oxymoron
