  1. If folks sense that a tummy bug is mild... then I will recommend charcoal tablets!! They help absorb toxins, and will also help firm up gut contents. warning: they may negate or lessen the effect of other medications! Anything here with diarrhoea gets masses of charcoal...either the tablets ,which are expensive... or some clean bulk charcoal, ground up to powder. It can be mixed in food, or, given per mouth easily if in tablet form. We have been using it for many many years... humans, lambs, calves, dogs, pigs.....so can estimate dosage etc . I am not going to suggest dosages to folks on here...just in case It is more than what the bottle says.....
  2. Oh darn.... having been about 3 months hobbling with knee ligament injury myself.. I sympathise ! Hope she is a good girl and keeps quiet! *he,he,he*
  3. If you are concerned, a vet visit will help you She may have just pulled a muscle- she may have done several things.... either confine/rest her and see if it improves, or take her to the vet this afternoon, so you know exactly what is happening..... Hope it is something simple and easily fixed!
  4. What did the vet say was the cause of the blindness? Living with a blind dog - well- it is doable- your dog is ok so far? It will learn very well to cope - provided you don't change furniture or things too often..and help it along by providing scent clues, or sound clues :D Dogs rely on their noses first, then their ears... How old is the pup? if you do not want the responsibilty of caring for this pup-(and it is extra work)then start now to find a home where pup can be secure and happy We have had old blind dogs here- and they coped ok..they were old, and didn't move about much anyway.. so that was easier.. Sorry you have to reconsider your options now ;)
  5. here! have a copy FREE LINK until April, anyway. it is the new number 3, trial/testing version. it works perfectly!!! enjoy someone posted about it a few weeks ago... to that someone...
  6. Thanks He is a nice old man, after being a bit of a wild boy....used to have a habit of nipping peoples' hands when working..... never the sheep- only people
  7. I am guessing dogs can be affected like humans...if a certain part of the brain is injured, then the emotional responses/physical actions controlled by that part of the brain are affected. Some frontal lobe damage (like that of vehicle accidents) in humans can lead to all sorts of odd behaviour- loss of inhibitions..all sorts. So- I am surmising that blow to her head has done some damage JUST GUESSING, of course .
  8. gaawjustaffys..VETS have the equipment and knowledge base to carry out examinations/do tests on the pup. We don't. I have seen hundreds of little pups...and nursed sick ones, PTS a lot..but anything I notice or suggest is just that- a suggestion.. To be sure, most times, there needs to be a hands on examination. I sadly have to agree with Bindii..puppy should have been to a vet sooner.perhaps because you are inexperienced you put it off... but I hope now that you get some professional advice.
  9. That puppy, if it's the same one could well have a tummy full of fluid.... a vet check is the most sensible plan now, I think...poor little guy
  10. Hi - scratching can be caused by lots of things, including fleas, allergies, pain in the area, skin infection, boredom, attention seeking.... all sorts! detective work, and some vet help is often needed to find the exact cause ... Hope you get an answer soon
  11. I love oldies, too... and he is 13 , nearly 14 so is doing very well! He retired at about age 9-10.....just not agile enough any more
  12. What did the vet say? Any suspicion of visual disturbance should be checked out - there may be a treatable cause.... I cannot help with the genetic causes or the showing.... but would guess if it IS a genetic condition- that you would not be showing or breeding with that line....
  13. Fred was our best worker in the sheep yards/trucks.... now he only has bursts of activity....but...
  14. Bo was originally obtained by neighbours from a kelpie stud..to work sheep. She was more interested in roos ;) After a couple of years, the elderly man moved to town..and Bo went to another property. She had a drizabone coat, a kennel/run, acres of lush lawn on which to run, but absolutely no direction. She turned into a 'street kid'- independent, aloof, and would work in her own fashion. There was a personality clash..and she was given to us one day..to shoot, actually. I had always liked her- and thought we should make an effort...even tho we did not like red dogs . For a while- her life was totally in our hands..all food/drink/contact was by hand. It was hard work...but she came to see us as being worth looking at/communicating with Work? She would work hard... not exactly how we wanted, but as she aged, she got better .She had a lot of good points... and her hearing seemed to improve She had one litter of pups, and her daughter, grand daughter and great granddaughter are the mainstay of our workers. AS she got older, and couldn't work much, she was still helpful for me- in that she LOVED catching the sheep I needed to treat for flystrike, or other problems. I am at a loss now- none of the others will listen to me She was good company in her retirement She was always strictly a worker..not a pet, but much appreciated. In the past year, eyesight failed a lot, and when she started to not bark at the night time roos, and became very uninterested in food..we knew time was short. The other day she injured a leg, and it was an easy decision to send her off away....over the bridge....where she can run as wide and as fast as she likes again Age is unsure, but around 15 I think. R I P Bo Good Girl.
  15. ...insects I LOVE hunting bees ...LINK and here is one I caught yesterday :D FIXED LINK anyone else? any tips? (no, I don't have a DSLR)
  16. Bones buried are bones loved and savoured Our lot have never suffered from aging their bones.
  17. or... preferable for supervised dogs..a plastic basket muzzle :p Wearing that thing in a crate would not be terribly comfortable A nice sexy basket muzzle would mean he could lie down without 'bumping' around like HERE scroll down a bit... unless I had a brachy dog or something.. I wouldn't use anything else on a SUPERVISED dog.
  18. What ellz said. Your dog is on a much reduced activity schedule..and just doesn't need the extra food
  19. thanks- he has a very long tongue!
  20. he has already learned that chasing the lambs is much more rewarding than coming to you Please keep him/them SECURELY locked away. We live on a large property and have shot stray labs chasing our sheep :happydance:
