  1. I think for working, a deaf pup/ dog may have problems I would not like to expose a dog to cattle without ALL its senses intact... hearing AND seeing what the cows are up to could save its life at some stage... A dog, especially a novice, taking its eyes off the cattle to watch a hand signal is not a good idea ! As a pet- fine... working.. I have grave doubts.
  2. and you have successfully learnt the first important lesson ! She is a D O G . not a furry kid Oh...and where are the photos?
  3. I must be odd . I don't find it funny... yep- been there done that years ago when working with breeding labs.
  4. Ours get large meaty bones first up! Lapping is difficult for babies-their jaws are made for sucking ...so they suck on the meat/bone..get the juice... then after a while, start to chew bits off. Mince is then given a few times a day...... with a big container full of dry puppy biscuit available ad lib. heaps of meaty bones are provided... gives them exercise, and food and entertainment. I hate seeing pups with muck all over them..and this way avoids it completely Oh- water is always available... in containers like those ring cake baking bowls... deep enough to drink out of, and not easy to walk into/thru.
  5. That second pic is terrific!!
  6. I am thinking that there was nowhere really for a bird to perch .. those bushes are VERy spikY maybe a gust of wind... and the bee zigged when it should have zagged... odd.
  7. Not really- I can go a bit bigger tho..hang on
  8. he could well have scratched it and made it bleed- or flybites perhaps?
  9. How unlucky can you get? I saw this poor dead bee this afternoon...
  10. If it's a grass seed, the dogs I have seen with them in are very distressed, holding head on side, in pain, and disinclined to move Where is it bloody/irritated?Got a photo?
  11. Sometimes, too, if the long hairs at the end of the sheath are trimmed short , you may get discharge/urine gathering at the end of the sheath...drying and irritating Those long hairs are there for a reason.. to channel liquid away from the opening. I would also suggest flushing with warm saline a couple times a day .. and see how it goes .
  12. You need to set him up for sucess! Put him onlead..and make SURE he is standing where you want him, then praise/treat. repeat, repeat, repeat. If you are going out a door, or getting food- he does NOT get it, unless away from your person, and on 4 feet only. NO YELLING. dogs don't understand yelling...it just makes them anxious and /or excited. I hate licky dogs.... usually I just give a quiet ,low Gruff! and maybe a flick on the nose. No yelling, or conversation. Quiet praise and a voice without excitement in it helps ours who are that way inclined, so does not staring at them, and not being too overbearing..
  13. he's just playing, as puppies do with each other However, the kids and he will have to learn some rules...
  14. Hamlet started off sleeping outside in a shed with his own little 'den'.. then moved into my room.. on his own bed - when a bit older. Mum has two old girls sleeping in her room...on their own mattresses.
  15. Ok.. What is she fed, and when? When and how much is her last drink? I have a little dog here who I have invited to sleep indoors at night. Have found that if she has dry food as her evening meal... she will drink HEAPS and pee at least once. raw food- one drink ..usually dry nights
