Chewing Us Out Of House And Home!
persephone replied to catandgrant's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
catandgrant- One great aspect of barf/raw feeding is the fact that it is a simulation of how dogs would normally eat- by chewing their meat off bones/consuming the bones/getting variety in their diet! IMO feeding patties/mince just doesn't come close :D Dogs, as you have discovered, enjoy chewing. They should- that is what their jaws were designed for!! Feeding your dog a diet in which he has to WORK to get his food may help. So- Every meal his meat component is attached to his bone component.. and in big chunks/pieces...and he has to chew and chew and chew. he gets supplements, like eggs/sardines/veges..to add taste and variety. he gets to chew on chicken frames, and turkey wings, and roo tails, and beef brisket, and lamb flaps :D have a read HERE and HERE With th e other, you definitely need to supervise, to restrict his access to non-allowable items (yes, if this means he is on lead indoors, so be it!), and provide recreational bones, kongs with treats frozen inside, and tough chew toys ...associated with all sorts of praise for using these. You also have to retrain yourselves, and put away your belongings while his training continues. -
Dear little old thing

ditch any softeners! As said they are a chemical which stays in fabric- so you or your dogs are continually absorbing minute amounts of it Also use a pure soap product.Soap, NOT detergent. Soap is animal/vegetable fat based, and should only have few ingredients.

Her Face Looks Like A Balloon!

StaffordsYo- One thing to remember- the swelling you can see on the OUTSIDE is often happening on the INSIDE too ... and just think of all the important bits in a dog's throat/head ! -

It was suggested she could have breathing problems, and that you should take her to a vet Just be aware now, that she DOES have potentially dangerous reactions to possible bee/ant sting. Ask your vet for something you can keep at home in case you cannot get to a vet in a hurry. Hopefully, it will not happen again!! -
and be careful they don't have 'beans' as filling! also if your pup is one who chews a lot/eats rubbish.. beware of them swallowing bits of toy
-
Ok - so she probably had them done under anaesthetic. Seems odd that she is now deaf Hope you get some answers today!

That can be a bit late , sometimes ..esp if swelling is rapid onset. Glad Boofa is ok now -
soft drink bottles(plastic)..with dry food in. Toilet rolls.Cardboard boxes. LARGE bones. A soccer ball..cannot be picked up, but can be rolled around/wrestled with. A towel, tied in a big knot. Get a margarine container or ice cream container.Fill about 3/4 with chicken stock or water .Drop in a few liver treats/slices of apple/slivers of bacon rind/small pieces of chicken. freeze! tip out into a large bowl, or just leave in its original container.....

If she has that much crud in her ear- and the wax dissolving stuff isn't working,(provided that she has a waxy build up) then she will possibly need to be knocked out and have the ear cleaned out thoroughly.... What drops is she on, and what exactly did the vet say was the problem?

I would be off to a vet!! Swelling can be dangerous..especially around the nasal passages/throat. Not worth waiting to see if it gets any worse -
Red Rash Like A Hot Spot?
persephone replied to Chiwogabull*'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
There are heaps of threads on here about raw feeding, undecided.. start HERE and ask your questions -
What exactly do you hope to achieve with the editing program? Do you primarily want to straighten/lighten./remove red eye/remove blemishes? or do you want to add special effects/work with RAW files/add textures/layers etc? there are lots of free programs which do the basic chores and are MUCH easier to operate than photoshop. I am a techno dummy. I use mostly PICASA and also am enjoying playing with Lightroom 3 beta version currently on a free trial until April!! Sometimes I use GIMP another free program.

That's what I read as well. I also agree that photography is, indeed, MUCH more than possessing a top-end camera, and an instruction book .

What gorgeous fluffy face!! I can understand how he would have been a great success at the senior's homes

Red Rash Like A Hot Spot?

yep- undecided, I would recommend you go through your pup's diet, and maybe add some things to help boost his immunity Demodex mites will proliferate when pups/dogs are a bit 'under par', often. Most dogs have these mites present in small numbers, but, given ideal conditions, they will breed up! It could take up to a month or so to quieten down.... at least you know what it is! -
Haven- he sounds a very special boy.May your memories stay happy ones.

enjoy playing with different cameras, until you find the one which suits your needs

..as in mange mites? -
Hi- do you want to begin with a DSLR? as in a very good quality camera body, to which you add varying lenses, depending on what you are hoping to photograph... Or , do you want a good 'compact' camera- one which has no interchangeable lenses..but which will be a good all-round camera to let you get the feel of being a photographer ... I take lots of photos- but do not consider myself competent enough to cope with the demands of a DSLR.... carrying it all around, changing lenses, adjusting settings... not to mention the cost!!! I have , for the last 3 years used the cameras from the FUJI Finepix range. My latest has an 18Xzoom, a super macro, and does a good job The camera which is almost permanently attached to my person is my dear little old, bought secondhand ,SONY DSCN1.I just LOOVE the lens on this camera It is a tiny camera which takes crisp pics have a look HERE for photos taken- mostly with the finepix- but more recent ones with the sony.
