Question About Foaming / Frothing
persephone replied to princesszelda's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sometimes dogs which are excited or anxious will drool, and champ their jaws- therefore frothing like an espresso machine This may have been the case... how about trying just walking her from home ..and see what happens ? The calmer she is- the less likely she will do something silly and hurt herself again. if she is walking in familiar areas, with you ,on leash, all should be relaxed edit to add- we do not have rabies in Australia! -
If I had taken her to the vet- I also would have used treatments suggested- but probably had her at home. I would have also asked for the names of the drugs, and written them down yes, her body may get rid of the bug... she may also , being a bit compromised, pick up something else- especially as she has now visited the vets surgery. What did the vet suggest re: her diet etc over the next few days?

I Well done in thinking of what your dog may need! ..however, re: drive- if you don't see evidence of it- and he seems happy- why encourage it? !!! My suggestion would be to keep him low key and calm.. that way it becomes a habit yes, he may well become energetic and driven.... but he may not. His instincts may be satisfied by playing 'find the food games'... sniffing out trails, playing that game of the three flowerpots- where food is under one ...gaining food by dropping/ rolling over, all that sort of thing. Not all herding working dogs are hyper... he will be affected by the heat- and he DOES have a very short attention span currently.. encourage/praise the calmness while you have the opportunity!!

Normal Behaviour After Desexing?
persephone replied to Karelea Aussies's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Good news, then yep- try and not 'sympathise' with her.. crate/bed rest, maybe a warm wheat bag..or something on her side if she will tolerate it... and some extra chewing things... -

Normal Behaviour After Desexing?
persephone replied to Karelea Aussies's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Honestly- I have seen hundreds of bitches speyed--- and while a few would be acting sore & sorry- most are back to almost normal after about 48 hours. A bit of pain is not altogether bad- as it stops bitches wanting to run around/jump etc. Mind you - there could also be stuff happening internally that we just cannot see! (another reason to NOT use pain meds- as they can, and do mask things ) -
Normal Behaviour After Desexing?
persephone replied to Karelea Aussies's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This is VERY abnormal behaviour It has also gone on for too long, poor girl. With her being shown to have this 'red flag' - if she were mine I would be limiting her exposure to drugs/chemicals as much as possible- using only known safe drugs- and avoiding extras wherever possible. Hopefully she will bounce back quickly! IMO dogs recover fine without painkillers.... I know very little of MDR1... but could she be still suffering effects from a pre-anaesthetic drug, as well as the rimadyl.? -
puppies with diarrhoea can get very sick very fast. The blood may be caused by several things- A vet visit would be my suggestion- sooner ,rather than later.

On The Effective Use Of Punishment
persephone replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sounds a very logical and sensible set of rules to me . -
Some suggestions? betadine...elizabethan collar and an antihistamine. The betadine will sort out any bacteria and/or fungal problem..the antihistamine will help relieve the itch, and the collar(or a soft basket muzzle, if supervised) will stop the self-inflicted trauma/bacterial introduction/moistening effect of saliva. Finding the original cause .....that's another story. Where he is chewing is the 'textbook' flea chewing spot...If he is allergic- only needs one bite! but it can also be chewing to try & relieve some pain in the hips/tail area.

Diarroea And Watery Blood Discharge

Hopefully she will be ok soon ;) Hopefully, too she won't be fed any more cooked bone :D -
That doesn't look a bad little unit to me Haven't tried it, but obviously canon is a good name! have you considered something from the finepix range? like THIS? I use a sony cybershot..and a FINEPIX I like being able to control a lot of things in manual mode -nd there are lots of manual options here!.. and to have a zoom capability (thos it's not as sharp as could be on full zoom) I think this is rectified in newer models. Most photos IN HERE are fuji finepix ones. Have fun in your search

Diarroea And Watery Blood Discharge
persephone replied to Guardienne's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I hope you have cleaned/bleached everything/everywhere the dog was!! nasty diarrhoea plus a blood stained fluid can mean all sorts of nasty goings-on...including infectious diseases. I believe the dog should see a vet. -

I didn't think of acidosis! -
what I LOVE about our dogs is that they will(and do) cheerfully hunt and attack feral cats when we ask... and then curl up and sleep with our boys ! GOOD dogs
-
Don't worry- you're not the first! When i worked at a vets- we would often have people in worried about the same thing..and it could get very embarrassing trying to explain , sometimes, the owners (usually female) would get red and tonguetied and awfully apologetic

Hi if it was obvious during a belly rub-and feeling around... it just means he was enjoying it a lot! he is male, after all .

Large Straining Dog (march Update)
persephone replied to spottychick's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If you are suggesting they build a setup where the dog's chain runs along a length of cable runing parallel to the ground... this needs to carefully thought out! It needs to be firmly anchored both ends.. BUT also needs to be made/placed in such a way that the dog's chain is NOT long enough to tangle around any trees/posts/fences. The cable also either needs to be at ground level,(using sunken star pickets) or high enough that he dog cannot jump over it and possibly get hooked up! There also needs to be a swivel at each end of the chain..and it should attach to the cable with a very strong solid metal ring or Ubolt, which will slide smoothly along. With a dog like this- ANY/ALL attachment points of collars/chains/cables are the weak areas, and may ned welding etc to make sure he is secure/safe. It is not an easy thing to set up ,if you have no previous experience.... -
