  1. Living in the NT- you may want to avoid the short-nosed breeds, as they can have problems with breathing/staying cool in hot weather. Also - letting a dog run around the oval means that you will have to put in a lot of obedience training beforehand , and it is also a bit of a concern , with regard to other non- friendly dogs
  2. I was asking re: symptoms as I though a pup in your care actually HAD a problem Buscopan will reieve cramp/spasm... however, it will not kill virus/bacteria. It will not dissolve gas bubbles. It will not alter the acid balance, and it will not stop food allergies. That is what I meant by 'hiding' - yes, the pain may be gone, but the cause may still be present ...and getting worse without being noticed . It is a drug. Aspirin and atropine are both dangerous if used inncorrectly- both originated in plants. Cyanide has plant origins, too! Just because something is 'natural' doesn't mean it is safe.
  3. How can you tell if your pups have a stomach ache? What are the symptoms?Drugs like Buscopan are not to be used lightly- and they may take some pain away ,without helping treat the cause of the problem You may want to get information from your vet, who will have seen your pup/s previously, and will advise you on any suitable home treatment. They will also be able to tell you correct dosages for anything they suggest.
  4. I have no experience- phone a vet ,or emergency centre would be my suggestion.Hope your dog is OK.
  5. Dogs aren't rational- they act as dogs, not humans who can reason and think things through to a high level. An owner- who feeds and cares for a dog may not be the person the dog RESPECTS. Feeding a dog and having interaction with it is no immunity to being attacked. Having the dog respecting an owner is helpful....not FEARING, not avoiding, but respecting. Dogs in a pack, with no definitive human leadership, will challenge. Simple. It's what dogs do.
  6. GO! best of luck - yep they may well have been bitten killing the snake :D
  7. but I don't think they crunch the heads first? They go down pretty well intact- mouths closed...THEN get worked on in the gizzard. A dog may very well crunch the skull and open up the venom glands....
  8. Please phone a vet. if a tooth scratches the mouth etc, they could, in theory be envenomated :D better to be safe than sorry!
  9. Indeed . That is what dogs do- instinct can override everything we think they have been taught :D he is safe, you are safe, and know his limitations. The shaking will stop by tomorrow! :D PS: that was well written !
  10. FROGS OF QLD. You may find it here I don't think frogs are poisonous to dogs at all- only toads
  11. Just make sure that whatever crate/pen you use is wide and low! Low- so dog cannot stand on hind legs.. WIDE, so dog can comfortable wear an elizabethan collar, and/or stretch leg out to sleep... when my old Mitch had his patella op.. his leg was bandaged and stiff.. he was lucky to have an 'aunt & uncle' who looked after him ..carrying him everywhere, and spoiling him No crate needed ..he was with someone , or his leash was attached to the wall. He enjoyed his recovery!!
  12. glad it's gone. It is always a worry when they are in/near the house!
  13. What allergies does she have? What diet did the dermatologist recommend for her? may be better to stick to what is recommended- but if that isn't working, go back and ask the doc's opinion ...
  14. I'm sure they will, after being asked so nicely
  15. I second what tez has said... if he is not used to a live in companion- he may well be feeling a bit overcome he may also be incubating an illness. Hope you can find out what is wrong soon ;)
  16. We have always been lucky- living in the bush..being home pretty well all the time.. so no need for any crate training Any pups have just always been in & out with us.. when we see that something like a wee is imminent- then the chosen word is said in a happy voice..much praise is delivered (pats) after the deed is done, and we go about our business. very soon there is a pup who toilets on command , makes life SO much easier ;) I have never had to get up in the night for a pup (piglet, yes), but not a pup, and my 3 have all just been in my room on their bed..... I think crate training can be useful for some people, but it not a necessity
  17. Odd looking alien ! have no idea what it could be, but definitely worth a check up. Hopefully it's merely some sort of skin infection
