  1. glad it's gone. It is always a worry when they are in/near the house!
  2. What allergies does she have? What diet did the dermatologist recommend for her? may be better to stick to what is recommended- but if that isn't working, go back and ask the doc's opinion ...
  3. I'm sure they will, after being asked so nicely
  4. I second what tez has said... if he is not used to a live in companion- he may well be feeling a bit overcome he may also be incubating an illness. Hope you can find out what is wrong soon ;)
  5. We have always been lucky- living in the bush..being home pretty well all the time.. so no need for any crate training Any pups have just always been in & out with us.. when we see that something like a wee is imminent- then the chosen word is said in a happy voice..much praise is delivered (pats) after the deed is done, and we go about our business. very soon there is a pup who toilets on command , makes life SO much easier ;) I have never had to get up in the night for a pup (piglet, yes), but not a pup, and my 3 have all just been in my room on their bed..... I think crate training can be useful for some people, but it not a necessity
  6. Odd looking alien ! have no idea what it could be, but definitely worth a check up. Hopefully it's merely some sort of skin infection
  7. Glad he's feeling better - he shouldn't eat spiders!!
  8. Sorry for confusing you The umbilical leash thing is one I have done, and one I like- dog carries on when not with you, but is not educated enough to be with you. Ok. So dog is attached to you as you go about your daily chores.... dog is happy- cos he is with you. You are happy , because dog is not being noisy. Dog is happy because he is learning to observe your body language closely- and understand exactly what you want him to do. You are happy because you can provide INSTANT feedback to the good things dog does - and guide him away from behaviours you don't want. Dog is happy because things are much clearer :D Of course- dog needs to be comfortable in his own skin, and happy to be outside... however, a dog who knows the house rules, and is well behaved inside is a delight and a much calmer dog Good luck with the trainer later in the week!
  9. arrgh- forum won't let me go back to find out history here. apologies, then if these suggestions are way off! but Have you thought that this behaviour may be an anxiety thing? perhaps, if you install a DAP diffuser, put some rescue remedy in her water, and make sure she is exhausted when you leave you may help to alleviate some of the anxiety , which may be fuelling this behaviour anyway-, I would be just putting newspaper in the crate of a daytime. Any reason she cannot be outside?
  10. Indigirl- so sorry ,after all your hard work. Condolences to his owner, as well. he was old, and tired, and he could only cope with so much . There will be another Goofy Golden Grin at the bridge now
  11. The trick is to not 'tie him to something'!! the way to be in control is to have the leash either in your hand, or attached to your waist!!! Then- every move he makes is with your permission (or not) hard work for a couple of days , but well worth it. It improves communication, too
  12. Poor little Charlie- tho the lucky things is that dogs cannot worry about such things
  13. teenagers- wren't they wonderful?? Good to read that you have been taking him to lesons- however obedience training does NOT teach a dog YOUR house rules As the owners it is up to you entirely to educate your puppy. from day one, the rules should be instituted. Praise for being calm, ignoring food, not jumping... time out etc for infractions. If you have pup on leash with you indoors, he cannot make these mistakes- and you can teach him to stay by your side on his bed, to not bounce/jump, and to admire food, without eating it. have a read of this, too LINK and... you may be interested in this ebook - has lots of useful information in ! LINK
  14. LOL,Ams- at least you DID come back for a look ;) thanks, Kody's mum folks like seeing such things behind glass/plastic
  15. oops- have you actually phoned? They may be out, or busy... I do hope you get your choice!
  16. Which is why I have never bought a commercially made dog bed . They can chew up opshop blankets/quilts/mattresses instead ! (none of mine has ever wrecked their beds tho.) looks like he found a way to keep occupied, anyhow Was the bed originall placed in that spot? remembering he has been in a cosy crate- a piece of fabric shoved into a big empty space doesn't seem like a 'den'/bed ;).. so it may not get treated like a bed. Plus it did not smell of him or you....
  17. I got my CARD READER from DS- it takes heaps of different cards!
