  1. In recent footage- he just had such a wise and sedate look I just love his face
  2. Oh . My favourite pit bull . Junior has some VERY big pawprints to fill. R I P Daddy .
  3. I think, re food- choose one appetising food- and just offer that a couple of times a day. put it down - pick up bowl after 15 minutes. NO treats . Your friend really does need to get some real life professional help- someone recommended . She may have a big job ahead of her , and extra help will be a godsend.
  4. Ouch! if you can spray it with some betadine ,that would be good ..or even salty water . otherwise, if he is reasonably comfortable- just take him to the vet in the morning
  5. OK- what is the known history of this dog? What abuse took place before your friend rescued it? if you know what the abuse was- it may make it easier to help heal... It almost sounds as if the dog was a kennelled dog... and is very undersocialised, and missing having other dogs around The dog may have only ever toileted on one substrate- maybe concrete...and so hangs on, waiting for the seclusion and security of its yard? By 'walking well on lead' do you mean she is responsive to commands, not distracted by things? or do you just mean she walks along ,not looking at anything, and not pulling? Poor dog sounds very 'out of her element' and uncertain Has she been vet checked and found to be OK? No teeth/ mouth/throat trouble which may affect her eating? What food has been tried so far? Oh, and ... NO WAY would I suggest using a no bark collar on a dog which is stressed and anxious
  6. What worry. Hope you get some better news later on.
  7. Our dogs(not any bull breeds) do that when they are being tickeld/stroked by shrubbery-they go backwards and forwards ,getting their backs gently massage d... sure- but I certainly wouldn't describe it as a stiff legged ,worried ,searching-for-something- action - they have a far-away look. If the OP's dog is doing this type of walk AROUND bushes and cars.... as if it is looking for a cat- then it does sound different . hey, snake catcher can you get a photo of your dog doing this ? It will be interesting to see his body language
  8. It may well be predatory then.... If it is be a bit careful- dogs in this frame of mind can react at lightning speed! They are ready to chase something if it dashes out from the bush....
  9. If the buyer wished you to know their name- you would get a notification or a bubblemail Congrats!! Great photos
  10. Hi If it's what I think- I certainly don't see it as hilarious You said it yourself and that is exactly what he is- usually when they do this, they are being very cautious and a bit worried- they are checking something out- and are ready to run if necessary... a bit like if you came home late one night- the front door was ajar... and you walked around checking things out ... you would be also serious, worried and walking in a tense manner
  11. best of luck at the vets- hopefully they can settle his tummy quickly .
  12. Just sardines in springwater... mixed with their food. Your dogs don't need rice
  13. Marrow bones aren't really a 'food' as they are too hard for most dogs/pups to chew properly and digest. They may also splinter, and yes, the marrow itself is very fatty and can cause stomach upsets! The best bones for her are ones she can completely crunch up - like chicken carcasses/lamb flaps/rootails....
  14. OH- Isn't he just lovely oh- are there dogs in that photo? *goes back to check*
  15. From memory- it is just a lozenge shape
  16. I think bite inhibition is used by a dog in a controlled situation. In a reactive situation I believe the dog bites hard.
  17. GSD owner- I can understand your concerns ..however, I believe as dog owners it is OUR responsibility to make sure our dog is as safe as can be reasonably expected when/if faced with the unexpected! These days none of my dogs go to town.. some years back, with my Kieran (Dane X deerhound, 45 kg brindle ) I socialised him like nobody's business .. in town/shops/ with kids... mainly because he was bred to be a pig dog- we rescued him, and I had NO idea what temperament he had... Anyhow- he was bombproof - except for teen males and drunk men. Suited me fine ;) Kids used to run up and hug him- he would slurp icecreams from toddlers ... and everyone just loved him My current dog is ok with older kids- supervised carefully, but I am not confident. The snippet you pasted about children startling a dog.. I think the relevant point there is that was written for dog OWNERS- it refers to 'YOUR DOG'- and yes, it is important to teach your own kids about dogs and behaviours the linkHERE is an interesting online book , dealing with this subject. The project, of which th ebook is part, can be found HERE ermmm.. there is quite a lot involved, really
  18. I feed supercoat to puppies with brilliant results- little 'logs' from day one always Maybe give him some probiotic supplement, and alternate raw & dry (altho I don't think it matters)..but perhaps all the chiopping and changing isn't helping? I tend to agree with PF- pick a food- eg: the premium dry, and stick with it! Moisten it with warm water, offer it twice a day, remove any uneaten.... and that's that. See how he goes .His tummy will then just have the one thing to digest ,and he will know that there is nothing more attractive on offer, so if he's hungry- he eats what's in his bowl. Or. just offer chicken mince/necks for a few days and see what happens. NO other foods/treats table scraps additives. see how his poo is after 3 or so days... and gradually work back to whatever suits him, and has what he needs.
