  1. Skin lesions are always a bit tricky- a skin scraping/blacklight check at the vets will help find an answer
  2. I certainly would not leave it on purely for the dogs. That said- hamlet has a fan on at night when it is hot- he sleeps on his bed in my room, and if he is uncomfortable- his restlessness keeps me awake too
  3. I tend to think so.... although, with awareness and experienced handling , dogs can be helped along at a later stage
  4. Seeking professional help IS the easy fix! trying different things and maybe compounding a problem is, IMO, doing things the hard way . Best of luck with the professional you choose- hope your girl gains her confidence!
  5. be VERY good news if it survives . *fingers crossed* nasty stuff, and lethal.
  6. We are the same- ourdogs are pretty much all born here- or come to us young. They have no need to run away..nothing to run TO I understand how you feel tho- it is all a great novelty to Kane, and yes, he may well wander off property! If you can construct a sturdy run that would be a wise move:) or have him on a long lead/rope when you are out, so he can run, but stay close.
  7. *nods* when you live out in the sticks..and have friends/business dealings in 3 states.. it is handy to have LOTS of phone books ( the puter is not always on)
  8. Hamlet just now - he does this with any empty container he finds ) ever hopeful ! (and, yes, he is sometimes successful) dogs in the B/G Gert (b/w) and Tiy.
  9. There's PAT and there's STROKE- I see them as two different things.. patting to my view is done with the palm.. and is like a light slapping thingy... stroking is gently sliding along the skin surface... I rarely PAT a dog- it is usually a stroke....or a skritch
  10. zackly! She's not about world domination just yet!! "D
  11. There will be others along with helpful advice I'm sure ? one thing I will say......... Start as you wish to continue. For example...having a tiny puppy clamber up onto your lap is cute. Do you want a 60kg rottie doing the same thing? Oh, and putting your hand in the bowl doesn't really mean you are alpha ;) IMO it just means that if she DOES snap- you will get bitten. Try getting her to sit, and feeding her piece by piece . also try THIS maybe just me- but I do not like my dogs to expect food when I sit down for a meal- so I never feed scraps from the table. I do save them up and feed them later How old is your puppy? She certainly doesn't look like a 'teen! At what age did you get her? notice you said she learned to sit at 7.5 weeks.... Has she been thoroughly vet checked after purchase? Do the parents come with all their health clearances? I ask this in particular because she may be hurting when she does 'down'. How did/do you teach her this? baby puppies joints are soft..and if she does maybe have some problem- yes, it will hurt. if she is doing jumping on&off furniture etc she may also be causing some soreness. Maybe get her checked..... We once had a rottie pup- she started growling at us when we picked her up/nursed her. then she bit us. She had to be PTS due to very bad hip dysplasia, and also badly healed fractures in her shoulder
  12. I think you need to consider that they will be very much out of their routine by the change- so maybe do it in stages? spend an hour or two outside, then a bit longer, and a bit longer? Feed outside..... do lots of good stuff outside with them, so they see it as very much a comfortable space .
  13. I just remembered-One of my koolie boys many years ago was desexed under 12 mths. he was never a 'good' worker in the sense he had a plan, or really knew what he was doing, but as for drive/keenness/speed......... he had all that in spades! he was also my best feral cat hunter . he would race around them in circles and hold them for me.. or tree them. he would not give up/in. Sorry I don't have bitches, so can't help you there.... All guide dogs are deseexed.. and they work ok .. must have a certain amount of drive to work in cities, etc safely and strongly...
  14. BELGIANs are lovely- they always seem to be smiling
  15. Oohhh..it's a little yabby!! I expected a big Cray- and was going to suggest you make it a regular thing Would be handy to have a dog who fetched crays!!
  16. I agree- even if it works- in Summer it would be very warm.. and if no-one's home , who will put it on then?
  17. poor little dog :D I have never seen any of ours get bitten - the ants come and steal their food, etc...
  18. I would get a good behaviourist in to observe and assess- then work from there.
  19. I would really be looking at boots then- if you can't change areas or clubs? Glad I don't live there! We are lucky here- there are all sorts of ants, but they never seem to worry the dogs *touches wood*
  20. BULL ants! ?? if she is getting bitten by bullants she could get VERY very uncomfortable, have a swollen foot/leg and perhaps be VERY ill Nasty. If there are bullants at your club grounds, the nests should be destroyed! Humans can also be badly affected by bullant bites, with swelling/inflammation/pain and sometimes a nasty allergic reaction I have has very painful legs after being bitten..days afterwards Anti histamines per mouth would be of more help. Maybe get her to wear boots? spray her feet with repellant prior to going out- and wash her feet upon return? some reading for you. LINK link
