  1. A bite from a jack/pom/whatever would not cause too much damage. A bite from a an adult stafford...........well, I would imagine that would not be pleasant. if I had an option, I would NOT walk past a yard containing an unknown unsecured dog larger than a SWF .
  2. I hope the policeman is being treated for his depression and whatever else led to this . R I P poor dogs.
  3. Dammit- something in my eye ! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY well done, you!
  4. It certainly sounds like an allergy to me. I would also suggest a second opinion- and maybe ask if an antihistamine can be tried ? If an anti histamine heps- then that is terrific! if not - then you need to look further I had a dog who used to lick paws a lot- he was allergic to grass
  5. I would also suggest swimming- keeping her at a trim weight, and perhaps seeing a chiropractor. has she been xrayed or otherwise tested for any hip/leg problems? Snake venom is destructive stuff- however it could be something else, perhaps. So- when do we see photos of this lucky girl?
  6. Smoothiegirl- I think of 'play-stalking' behaviour when you describe your dobe
  7. Openeing their mouth and hissing is the only defence they have Dogs find them fun to hunt and shake to death- and irresponsible dog owners allow it ;) provide earthernware pipes ,or some rockpiles , so the lizards can get away! More hints HERE we don't have bluetongues, we have shinglebacks instead. they share the chook/dog food, and often we will see the dogs and an old 'stumpy' laying flat out on the concrete porch in teh cool
  8. This is not seperation anxiety as I know it It is merely a teenager not wanting to be somewhere, and training your mother to let her in!! The pup KNOWS that, if she barks long enough, grandma will open that door!! grandma has to be taught to IGNORE the pup Completely. When you put pup outside- what does she have to 'do' ? Does she have a food stuffed kong? A Bone? A nice rattly toy? If she is just put in the yard --- and of course she will not want to be alone-- she WILL bark. She is unhappy and wants to be with her pack . However, if she is fed in the yard...preferably with her food in a kong ,or treat ball/cube.... then the yard becomes a MUCH nicer place, and she will be happier to stay there I am sure others will have better suggestions - this is just what I thought of ;)
  9. Dogs can do this with hypoglycaemia- yes ;) Friends had a dog who was given tests for heart probs and all sorts- turned out to be hypoglycaemia ... with managed food etc he was OK. Hopefully your girl doesn't have the problem again ;)
  10. Hmmm.. not sure, but I will stick by my first hypothesis - The dog is wary- sniffing continually at a scent which may be a tomcat or something.... something seen as a bit threatening, but fascinating. The dog seems very aware of what is going on,is listening hard, and reacts quickly to movements/sounds/the touch of a branch on his tail.... dunno ;)
  11. Get a white tissue or cotton bud- see what it looks like on that If it has the colour/consistency of blood..... put a pic up if you like /aren't sure!
  12. In recent footage- he just had such a wise and sedate look I just love his face
  13. Oh . My favourite pit bull . Junior has some VERY big pawprints to fill. R I P Daddy .
  14. I think, re food- choose one appetising food- and just offer that a couple of times a day. put it down - pick up bowl after 15 minutes. NO treats . Your friend really does need to get some real life professional help- someone recommended . She may have a big job ahead of her , and extra help will be a godsend.
  15. Ouch! if you can spray it with some betadine ,that would be good ..or even salty water . otherwise, if he is reasonably comfortable- just take him to the vet in the morning
  16. OK- what is the known history of this dog? What abuse took place before your friend rescued it? if you know what the abuse was- it may make it easier to help heal... It almost sounds as if the dog was a kennelled dog... and is very undersocialised, and missing having other dogs around The dog may have only ever toileted on one substrate- maybe concrete...and so hangs on, waiting for the seclusion and security of its yard? By 'walking well on lead' do you mean she is responsive to commands, not distracted by things? or do you just mean she walks along ,not looking at anything, and not pulling? Poor dog sounds very 'out of her element' and uncertain Has she been vet checked and found to be OK? No teeth/ mouth/throat trouble which may affect her eating? What food has been tried so far? Oh, and ... NO WAY would I suggest using a no bark collar on a dog which is stressed and anxious
  17. What worry. Hope you get some better news later on.
  18. Our dogs(not any bull breeds) do that when they are being tickeld/stroked by shrubbery-they go backwards and forwards ,getting their backs gently massage d... sure- but I certainly wouldn't describe it as a stiff legged ,worried ,searching-for-something- action - they have a far-away look. If the OP's dog is doing this type of walk AROUND bushes and cars.... as if it is looking for a cat- then it does sound different . hey, snake catcher can you get a photo of your dog doing this ? It will be interesting to see his body language
  19. It may well be predatory then.... If it is be a bit careful- dogs in this frame of mind can react at lightning speed! They are ready to chase something if it dashes out from the bush....
  20. If the buyer wished you to know their name- you would get a notification or a bubblemail Congrats!! Great photos
  21. Hi If it's what I think- I certainly don't see it as hilarious You said it yourself and that is exactly what he is- usually when they do this, they are being very cautious and a bit worried- they are checking something out- and are ready to run if necessary... a bit like if you came home late one night- the front door was ajar... and you walked around checking things out ... you would be also serious, worried and walking in a tense manner
