Picky Pups - Is It A Stage They Go Through?
persephone replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have never noticed! My guess is tho, that texture is important- as their senses change/improve, they become more aware of WHAT they have in their mouths- and how it feels... -
and that can be reported to redbubble!

Do You Take Your Dogs On Holidays With You?
persephone replied to Pepi's topic in General Dog Discussion
Don't have holidays these days- but no. if I have a holiday it's just that Just me . -
It just sounds like stress/anxiety. In a nutshell- DON'T take him driving. YET. You could Start feeding him playing with him around teh car.. with the doors open. gradually throw his treats/toys into the car (put up some steps or ramp for him....) and let him go in one door/out the other, etc . Do this until he will beg to jump around in the car. Then have him in teh car, and close teh doors(leaving windows a bit down , so there is no air pressure shock!! That worries ME- let alone a dog. If that goes well.. and he is totally relaxed..then start the car- but don't move. treat/play, whatever... but ONLY when he's relaxed and looking at you Do NOT cuddle talk to/play with him if he's panting, ears back, shaking.... Gradually do this until he is quite comfortable- Do NOT hurry the process ... then move to driving up & down teh driveway..and then a bit further.... Not sure if it will work- perhaps someone has better suggestions

Pet Mince (chicken Frames ) And Chicken Wings
persephone replied to Simply Grand's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Why not buy chicken frames for your boy ? That way he gets his chewing and his bone and his meal -
Sorry- I didn't explain myself in my post calcium ascorbate provides both calcium and vitamin C in a gentle, easily absorbed form. Ascorbic acid provides vit C in an acidic form which can cause upsets.
-
calcium ascorbate is a vitamin C linked to calcium. NON ACIDIC - the action in the stomach splits it into calcium, and Vit.C ascorbic ACID - can cause diarrhoea..as it is an acid going into an already acidic environment.. I only ever use calcium ascorbate for me and the dogs sodium ascorbate is also gentle and well absorbed, but too much sodium(salt) is not good for anyone! all just my opinions- am no chemist there are others on here with experience in the foot/leg troubles you can see- hopefully they can help

I normally don't read any photog. mags or articles, cos I don't understand a lot of it- don't have a DSLR,find it too dry, and don't have photoshop. I do enjoy the writing style and advice on here though . It is also poking fun- LINKS

The BF only walks the dog once a week- and uses flea powder? he needs to be made to sit and read thru D O L pages as his penance/education I have never found flea powder to work as for walking- poor scooby- no wonder he is acting the way he is- he sounds very under stimulated and under exercised
-
Exactly- Scooby has an owner who is being a bit lax in his care and training. It is the BF who needs the work put into him!

Agree with this.

*shakes head* You have an established bull breed male you have an adolescent mastiff .. you have a female you have the established dog's territory being invaded..and the human belonging to the older dog being taken over by a female person... I doubt very much these are play fights- and yes, it will probably get MUCH worse without professional help . The younger dog is now getting his testosterone surge- and will be looking at the older dog thru different eyes. The older dog will scent/ see the difference in the younger, and react...not in anger, but by instinct.
-
Now is the time I think you should consult a professional. This could indeed become worse... and I believe you need someone personally there to help you. She is a lovely looking girl

Thanks, Kirislin

Gradually...... try adding some minced chicken carcases to the normal food.... plus maybe a teaspoon of cooked and pureed vegetable.... then work up from there. Your old dog's body may not be able to tolerate vegetables and bones the vomit certainly sounds as if her stomach rejected all the hard material . Just give her her normal food , and see if she settles. Don't feed her any more chicken necks, if she has poor teeth- she may not be able to chew the bone enough... if she is that age,and reasonably healthy still - I would not be changing her food much at all- except adding a little fish.. and /or mince. Just my thoughts...

I would also suggest that you don't just pick him up. Why do you need to pick him up? Is it just so you can cuddle him? maybe sit on a low chair, or on the floor/ground, and call him to you. Let him climb/jump up into your lap..THEN pat /cuddle him- without actually putting your hands around him and lifting. If you need to get him onto a higher object- what about a little set of steps? that way he can be independent, learn something new, and perhaps gain confidence maybe have his own bench/table.. where he can climb to have collar put on/be groomed, whatever? IMO ,being lifted up is amazingly different for a dog- they just don't have any equivalent in their canine behaviour! If a puppy is handled correctly from birth- yes, they get used to it, and some crave it.... however, it is not a natural thing, and is threatening/scary to some dogs. Also when he DOES cower/cringe- ignore it- don't pat him or even speak soft and caring words In his mind, this is reward for his cowering .. Hope this makes some sense
