  1. "small dogs" and "large dogs" actually , like humans, are pretty much all wired the same way . because a lot of small dogs ARE lapdogs /house dogs ..are owned by folks who humanise them and spoil them, they get a reputation ..and ,yes, some behave accordingly . labradors!! ha!! I have worked with/owned labs ..and believe me - they can also be needy and requiring of much work , LOVE being inside on couches watching TV ..and sharing your bed I believe most dogs SHOULD be with their humans as much as possible .It is up the humans to educate themselves as to how to get to this have that discussion tonight ... put all the cards on the table , and remember that we will offer what we can in the way of experience/links and suggestions - and that we have THE DOG's BEST INTERESTS at heart - so, while we might growl, snarl and snap ....it is for the DOG's sake .
  2. Reading this , I get the feeling that your little family is not a happy one - and no one understands the other completely ... Do you think - honestly - maybe everyone would relax more and be able to enjoy life if little dog was to find a family other than yours ? Living in a home where misunderstandings, resentment, arguments and high feeling is just so unhealthy for any relationship - humans or animals ..and it is unfair on you all . Girlfriend has given up on dog You have tried what you know little dog has done everything HE knows /feels none of it is really working . it happens , sadly . people see cute fluffy pups ... and you now now the rest of the story way too well Thank you for coming here to ask for another point of view Now - IF you decide your family may function more smoothly with just two humans for a while ...please DO NOT rush & get a cute puppy until you are BOTH committed and have perhaps asked 'us' for some support ;) Here are some important pointers from my point of view, anyhow to ensure little Dog finds a family who will fulfill his need for companionship and training and discipline and love- for life . main one being ask us for a reputable rescue . SURRENDER dog to the rescue , who will do his vetwork , put him in a foster home if needed, and match him with a prospective family . Advertising online is tricky ..and it is hard to weed out unsuitable people Does this option sound something you would consider?
  3. Ouch Dogs like him don't 'pretend' to shiver - they do so because they are excited/anxious...it is an automatic response . It is your girlfriend's dog, but your post comes across as you doing everything with/for the dog even though you dislike it ? before you both get any more angry - if you do live around melbourne, may I suggest this trainer to help you ? CLICK HERE . Please do NOT use any type of electronic collar on this little dog ..as it appears his behaviour is from a need to be with his human ,he seems desperate , not criminal.
  4. yes, and yes! Do you know their breeder's prefix, their kennel name ? eg Dokus's dawgs , or Princess pea's precious pups .... whatever maybe have a read of this too ..just to give you some idea hope it all goes well CLICK HERE please
  5. Glad the vet visit went well . She 's a pretty colour , too. if she has teeth , she can have bones .... and you can drink the rice water sorry , "milk" chicken wings ..whole ..either semi frozen ..or bashed a bit with a mallet...actually I use both methods . Start with frozen, so pup gets used to going slowly . . MUCH more appropriate way for a carnivore to get their calcium She will also LOVE recreational/meaty bones ..BIG ones ..like beef brisket or ribs , or turkey necks ..the gnawing with those side teeth is what cleans teeth and helps with good muscle strength/formation ..one or two crunches do nothing for a dog's physique /dental health ;) Here are links to some old threads on pups & feeding /giving bones Enjoy! 6. It's a shame the OP seemingly hasn't been back since the day they originally posted . I hope everyone is safe , and the situation was resolved.
  7. oh Gosh, ...what a brave and hard thing to do . and it doesn't matter one bit if it's for all the right reasons...it still hurts

  15. Seems an unsuitable dog was chosen for you .... for the cav's safety, and your sanity , the grey needs to be returned , and more research done to find a grey who has been fostered out and is noted as small dog safe . Upsetting , I know . Wishing you well .
  16. RP, WITH FOX I meant vulpine fox, not terrier
  17. ..and spend time wandering around dog parks/shows/shelters looking, asking questions and learning most folks love to talk about their dogs , and you will pick up all sorts of pointers to help in your choice of companion . It can also come to pass that one day , after months of searching .... one will find you . and YOU WILL KNOW .
  18. You might find the following some good reading  CLICK HERE also .. CLICK HERE puts things in perspective
  19. This is what we are working on Is your future dog handbag sized? Fox sized? labrador sized? larger ? you've never had a pup or dog before at all ?
  20. Which breeds attract you generally ? Do you like fluff, or huge, or stocky, or working , or racing sleek ? night time is when there are odd noises/stray cats /possums etc around , and pup/dog learns very quickly to bark and/or chase , because there's nothing stopping them Being outside alone all day and all night is an excellent way to teach a dog bad habits . being a dog owner can be an amazing experience because of the bonds which grow These bonds, and mutual understanding , mean that training/communication becomes second nature ..and you become a pair . Sadly , only physically being in the same space for 5 or so hrs a day will slow down this process somewhat , IMHO . A dog who shares resting/sleeping time with its human, and vice versa, absorbs the sounds, scents and rhythms A dog who spends nights indoors is not annoying neighbours with its barking , or learning to chase cats either LOL. Millions of dogs have humans who work ... then those humans spend hours walking/training/visiting friends/shopping etc with their dog when not working ! That's how a good dog+human relationship works :D
  21. double merle breeding ? don't do it . One can end up with a beast like this - hearing is fine ..except for sound location ..that's fairly casual . sight is not bad..but eyes are malformed..one in particular .... In his litter were 1 red, 1 black with dark eyes,(both with white collars/sox) 2 dark blue merle each with 1 blue eye ..and Pudden . he is mine .
  22. This poor girl needs a VET opinion . Sorry ... you cannot do much to help unless you know what the problems are . She does sound as if she's in awful pain . best of luck - what a terrible situation .
  23. Awwww... He is one of the best mixes around ! Cute, and stripy and cuddly and YOURS ;)
