  1. They are good friends ;) bernie is about 13 ..and Hamlet is 7 .
  2. Oh :D You wrote a loving tribute
  3. *wipes something out of her eyes* What a terrific update! :D
  4. Our pups, being prospective working sheepdogs are started on commands as soon as... when they look with intent at a sheep/goat/chook they are told to 'watch' and praised.... if they attempt to herd, a command is given, and praise...they are taught to come around behind us when they approach..and to walk behind us (not at heel)..all sorts of things as babies... nothing strictly regimented..and no leashes /collars....just everyday chances to praise and reinforce they are taught to NOT see humans as their main source of entertainment/excitement... so that(hopefully) at a few months old, they barely open their eyes when we come home and sometimes we have to walk over them to get to the house, cos they just lie there It is SO good when they are settled like that ! no- we teach 'come behind' ,instead
  5. info on 4x2 bikkies have you tried giving her mutton/lamb flaps? they are fairly fatty, and chewy, and usually well accepted . They are often used to put weight on dogs.
  6. Betadine liquid!! Much faster and easier than creams on localised areas... .... Anything a bit 'iffy' here(wounds/bare spots/itchy bits) gets the betadine treatment. As it kills bacteria/fungus/some viruses which can be nasty on the skin... ..I use it just in case.
  7. I hope now his family will get some sense of there being an end to it. A very sad saga.

Hugs to you, Horus. Your Girl has had such a wonderful home ...her spotty tail will be whipping about as she runs over the bridge... Take care
  9. Try giving her a soccer ball to knock around.. a treatball/cube to feed her and keep her busy..and maybe buy one of those clamshell kids sandpit things- fill it with nice coarse sand, and hide treats/toys in there- so she can dig happily...in her own space
  10. !!!!! bubble&squeak is for left overs........ shame on you
  11. That's like saying all meat tastes the same . it doesn't some dry food is mostly good quality meat- some is mostly grain, some has chicken, others, fish, others beef/pork/mutton..read the ingredients list, and get a feel for what they all contain. A 'good' dry food has meat as the first ingredient......and has no artifiicial colours/flavours, etc.
  12. so now your dog never gets to walk around in daylight? That's sad...
  13. By saying every morning there is a new hole- I am presuming she is digging at night? keeping her indoors would solve the problem if that is the case if she is outside all night, she will be looking for something to do..... what activity does she get during an average day- and how much time does she spend doing stuff with you ?
  14. Gravy is not wonderful stuff- flour,salt,colour..... chicken stock made by you with no salt..or a little bit of roo mince as suggested- better still, change to a food he enjoys eating!
  15. Hi- if you are leaving food for him all day- then perhaps he is just eating too much?
  16. The malaseb will kill any 'nasties' on his feet ... shouldn't need to do it very many times at all! I wouldn't use soap too often - it takes away the oils ,and it will not kill any bacteria/fungus - so why bother ?
  17. Dog's feet are the only part that sweat. As you know- sweat can get smelly when exposed to teh air,and when bacteria do their work Does Charlie lick at his feet much? Instead of a nailbrush- just rinse in clean warm water every night..and DRY gently and thoroughly with a towel. if he tries to lick- distract him.. as bacteria from his saliva just get straight to work on that lovely sweat if his feet are being licked- or look at all pink/red.. might be an idea to see a vet- there are reactions like that from yeast/fungi/allergies.
  18. :D because dogs ARE sensitive to noise- their ears pick up tiny sounds we cannot hear....and if he has nothing more exciting to do/smell/see...then he will bark. If he is alone in the yard while you are at work... yes, he possibly is bored. Do you walk him before you go out? Often this helps- a LONG on leash walk, with a session of obedience training will tire a dog out more than a rum around the park (one is WORK, one is play... work is more tiring/satisfying than play) What toys does he have to occupy him during the day?
  19. It's a good way to start- but he is a dog, and he will benefit from chewing bones! :D At his age, teething is not far away- and lots of nice chicken frames/lam ribs/turkey wings will help remove loose teeth, and give him something to do ,as well as helping his body with calcium, etc. If it were me, I would not be giving supplemental calcium- but others more knowledgable than I will explain the ins&outs of calcium/phosphorous ratios, and working out just what is needed to avoid joint troubles ;)
