I tend to agree with erny- let him grow some more- see what use the leg is then ..and make a decision based upon that. If he gets any use from it - I would be inclined to leave it .. a thin shorter leg may still be useful, maybe . Any pics of him standing/sitting/running?

Jumping And Biting - We've Tried Everything
persephone replied to koalathebear's topic in Puppy Chat
you have a pup whose genetics on both sides tell him to RUN, to HERD, to try and get the things running away under control!! he has little legs, and cannot out run you- so he grabs . If you really want to tire him out- do 5 minute obedience sessions in the yard 2 or 3 times a day ... just walking nicely onlead.. doing a couple of sits, and recalls... Will he chase a ball? Maybe get him a soccer ball ... not tightly inflated, but fairly solid... let him chase/roll that around the yard. Whenever you speak to him- keep your voice calm and quiet. DO NOT RUN around with him do not rev him up with toys etc.. or praise in that silly squeaky voice humans find when they talk to kids/puppies. Anytime he is resting nicely- then calm physical and vocal praise .. but STOP if he gets wriggly.. just turn away and ignore. Be calm and matter-of-fact and steady..... it's a good way to start How I stop this behaviour is probably not "the done thing" ..but it usually only needs to be done properly once- maybe twice... when pup latches on-- and with no speaking or extra movement, or eye contact--- quickly grab him by the scruff - ONE shake, and a loud, growly "GRUFF" , then I ignore for a few minutes.I praise if he is calmer and leaves me alone If it happens again... immediately- I repeat it ...but most times I just need to "Gruff" , as a reminder of the consequence :D This is similar to what an adult dog would do... -
He possibly has learnt it from someone ... or he's showing off. he may not do it all the time- I have seen dogs cock their legs when around other dogs- but still squat when alone/at home...

How To Stop Sibes Howling
persephone replied to ruski18's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It all sounds perfectly normal.Being around a bitch in season is extremely frustrating for a male Unless you have good dog runs - send one of them to a kennel. If you find "raw mince is so expensive just for a dog", then perhaps you can't afford to keep him properly. If you are finding a few kilos of meat expensive, how will you cope with worming/vaccinations/vet bills? if you are showing him, he will look his best if fed the best. Simple :D -
resisting ....... I will never be able to afford to buy it at the end of the trial,, and will suffer withdrawals after a month's use

Try him on fresh raw meat - lamb flaps are great for putting weight on- but introduce them slowly.... the good (expensive ) dry foods may help you as well.

what a terribly inept piece of writing that is . The organisation was NOt the Institute for the Blind,it was Royal Guide Dogs Ass'n. ConrAn should be ConRON , they are not 'seeing eye dogs', they are Guide Dogs... yipes! I will definitely read the magazine article , have just bought my copy..... Hope it is of better quality than that snippet. (and yes, I do know of what I speak Wally was my boss at that time )

Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
persephone replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
silverblue- I have seen dogs of several breeds kill /critically injure other dogs . Labrador adolescents, for one example. Whilst there are some which may have NO prey drive/pack instinct ..I think, dogs in general do have the propensity to act in this manner. Not saying it is common, or usual- but it is there in the dogs' make-up, I believe. It is the way I look at dogs always... that they have the potential to revert to instinctual behaviours -

Hmm. Whilst it is not socially acceptable in today's civilised world , I honestly don't think it is aberrant behaviour Dogs in a pack will kill other animals... even tiny dogs. -

I also would not knowingly take on a dog which had killed another dog. Very sad situation all round. -
