  1. silverblue- I have seen dogs of several breeds kill /critically injure other dogs . Labrador adolescents, for one example. Whilst there are some which may have NO prey drive/pack instinct ..I think, dogs in general do have the propensity to act in this manner. Not saying it is common, or usual- but it is there in the dogs' make-up, I believe. It is the way I look at dogs always... that they have the potential to revert to instinctual behaviours
  2. Hmm. Whilst it is not socially acceptable in today's civilised world , I honestly don't think it is aberrant behaviour Dogs in a pack will kill other animals... even tiny dogs.
  3. I also would not knowingly take on a dog which had killed another dog. Very sad situation all round.
  4. May I suggest you feed her AWAY from next door's fence..and feed her using THIS If you need more help, ask for trainer recomendations- lots of DOL members have successfully used professional help, and word-of-mouth recommendations are the best way to find someone suitable
  5. A 14 mth entire lab boy! he really would benefit from, and learn some manners by doing more obedience work each day, plus more on lead, controlled walking- so his brain has to work...this makes for a much more settled dog, generally.
  6. aahh- yes, that is why it is YOUR job to train her ;) It is your job to make sure she is taken outside very often, shown where to go ,and praised for complying. Unless she is to stay indoors, I believe getting her to use this new thing will be confusing- she may then not bother to go outside at all- she knows she is allowed to pee indoors!!
  7. May I answer this? I know of this dog personally.... it has depression, and PTSD, due to being famous. The goggles are special rose-coloured glasses, which makes this poor dog MUCH happier and content .
  8. Do you have one of those black maltese terriers, but with blue eyes? My Mum would LOVE one like that
  9. Well- they've gotta have something to play with, Mum .....
  10. you can try here... LINK I thought boxers were supposed to have some black on them?
  11. Some more questions... just so we know a bit more about you and your dog/s Is the lab desexed? When you say 'long walks' ..how long? 1 hour? 30 minutes? is this every day, or twice a day? or once a week? What obedience training do you do at home? Do you go to any dog training clubs? I bet he does love the water! They look terrific when they are playing around and getting wet What do they do when indoors- you say they trash the house- do they chew/run/toilet? .... perhaps we can help you with some ideas to settle them down ...then with a new feeding regime- and indoors, barking should not be an issue

    Ruthless!

    Yaaay!! Well Deserved!
  13. What reward does he get for sleeping in the new spot? you have now trained him to sleep with you. He gets warmth, scent, tactile comfort, and companionship. He loses all this to sleep on the new bed.
  14. the cat probably won't enjoy it up their nose either
  15. hi try contacting DOL member NEKHBET . She may be able to help .
  16. I wouldn't worry about a coat - it's just one more thing to chew/get hooked up.Make sure he has a good windproof cover on his crate.. a solid floor to stop drafts , and also be aware that he may well take to barking at things thru the night after he's been out there for a while
  17. jodielass- your food question has almost been answered in your older thread.. HERE when do we get to see a photo of your girl?
  18. What is she doing that you notice she is awake? ( I am presuming she is left outside at night?) Does she bark, or scratch at the door, or what? She may be cold- she may be coming in season ,and be feeling restless, there may be a new cat/possum about....or she may not be getting enough physical/mental exercise to make her sleep longer.... that's the simple things I can come up with
