  1. poor girl . Hopefully the injection, and having you home will relax her and help her sleep * fingers crossed * she will be feeling better in the morning, and the tablets will do the trick
  2. Just popping in to see if everyone's home and ok .
  3. Oh- hopefully they find the cause- and it's NOT a rock!! Thinking of Gypsy
  4. Coming from th eperspective of working sheepdogs... this 'stalking' is what's called, for a working dog, 'setting', or 'eye' Did it look like this ? it's a natural behaviour /posture- a 'herding' behaviour..., if so. The dog is tensed and hyper-alert. It is poised to instantly respond to any movement of the sheep/cattle , whatever. A head turn, a step sideways, and the dog is off!
  5. erny- yes- very clever work! Was that a white pitty? Loved the stuff done by that one They were all good !
  6. Jules & Kirislin- what do you mean "a grey screen" ?
  7. she sounds as if she is being very well looked after - old dogs are special
  8. earlier, when? hearing/sight can just 'go!' overnight, sometimes poor old girl, sounds as if her body is getting weary...
  9. Must admit to normally not enjoying that sort of thing... this time I did!!
  10. My first thought is that she may now have lost most of her hearing/sight, and so ,when something suddenly touches her she just automatically reacts!
  11. I would not have left her alone ( but then again I HAVE had a dog with a blockage ) he was vomiting...lots .The blockage was past his stomach. If she's chewing rocks she isn't feeling 'too' bad , IMO. Hopefully she just has a mild upset which will sort itself out with a day or so of fasting, and then a bland diet (NO rocks) No neighbour or friend who can call in & check her for you?
  12. Jules - the main problem with that picnik application is that it is not a download- one needs to be online to use it.. For many folks, like me, on set plans- this means extra every time they need to do a photo It is fun to play with - but eats up allocations too fast!
  13. Hi In this day & age, there is no way I would be letting my dog roam unsupervised in a front yard As well as the possibility of her injuring/scaring someone (and you then having all sorts of legal hassle) there is the real possibility of HER being injured/baited /let out/teased. If you could fence off the back yard and leave her there when you're not with her , I feel it would be much safer all round .
  14. Why buy something to do just simple stuff? photoshop is hellishly expensive for strating off. For all sorts of basic stuff like coloursaturation/cropping, framing/taking away unwanted 'bits' Why not try either PICASA.. just one important thing- IF you download this one- you MUST tell it to only upload stuff you telll it to ! Otherwise it will grab every image on your computer, and organise them Or.. one which does a lot of good things ..Photo Pos Pro IMO - start off iwth things like this, and if they are then not powerful enough for you- then look at buying one of the ADOBE products have fun playing with your pics!!
  15. and it feels pretty nice to the humans as well . that little wet nose doing a search... then the relaxing and moulding to your shape .... labkisses , I saw FENUGREEK powder suggested in another thread- for helping the bitch with milk production.
  16. What is the temp. in their bed? That's a quick way of working out what you need to do They may not have enjoyed the fan blowing on them either .... when it has been VERY hot here, and we have had little ones I freeze 3 litre drink bottles of water.. then when frozen, insert them into a large size terry sock (from opshops or wherever) tie off the end . Place in one , lying flat in one spot in the bed... show the babies, then see what they do! They are so cute when they discover the cool... they lie all around the iceblock, and as they get older, they flop over th e bottles, cooling their bellies. We have had pups survive mid 40 temps here with no aircon... but with their iceblocks The beauty of this is that the pups and mum can CHOOSE - to be cooled or not ;)
  17. GD's are not only smaller for th space factor .. owners are matched to their dogs. Smaller dogs may well be better for an older more lightly built person. A chunky shorter dog may well be MUCH better at working thru crowds on a regular city commute- and a leggy tall dog may well suit someone who does lots of exercise or perhaps needs a taller dog so they can 'feel' more direction. Matching dogs to owners was always fascinating to me... dogs with low/high body sensitivity- dogs who could cope with country rough paths and livestock dogs who would be forceful enough to barrel safely thru dense crowds, dogs who were astute enough to work in different cities/towns regularly..and dogs who were placid and non-demanding enough to be easily handled on regular simple routes .... it certainly was/is not 'one size fits all' :D Coat was also important ... ,as was pigment on pads/nose .
  18. I always found labs to be the 'wombats' of the two ... and GR's to be a bit more on the refined and gentle side . Labs would walk thru you..and GR would stop and consider it first, and apologise afterwards :D
  19. YES, YES, YES ! It's often a case of bad manners V even badder manners :D All due to a MUCH more restricted lifestyle our dogs have...and the less experience dog owners have in the basics of dog behaviour.. I mean basics.. not leashwork or obedience, but the sniffing/barking/fighting/peeing stuff that is in all dogs.
  20. is the mum panting? are the pups snuggled up to her, or at the other end of the bed? Are they huddled together, or lying separately? Do they stop crying if picked up? They may be cold, or , as is often the case, they may be too warm :D babies which are too warm ,too cold, too empty, or too full, cry. They could also be in pain, as mentioned. get your thermometer and place on the bedding where the pups are ... see what temp. they are experiencing. baby pups cannot regulate their temperature- they can only complain...and try and find somewhere warmer/cooler. If this is not possible, they keep complaining.
  21. Hi, and welcome . I second the 'no couch' idea! IMO that privilege is to be well earned - not taken as a given. This dog is only new- and needs to find out his place is NOT sitting up with the pack leaders- just yet , anyway :D The TRIANGLE of TEMPTATION may be a good idea- just to make him see that you are 'god'.. that he needs to pay quiet attention .. and YOu are in control. that just means that he dislikes what you are doing .Perhaps have him on leash more ? so you can see/feel if he has a launch happening- and can correct him. I would not be gratifying him with any face closeness either just yet. ..if you do this, it seems to me you are giving him permission to touch your face . I would also suggest you engage the services of a professional - there are folks here who can recommend someone from your part of the world
