  5. Glad she's home - and hope that you can contain her seperately and keep a bucket on her head . She really does NOT need to be bouncing and chewing - to worry you any more !
  6. and a couple more. The raindrop on nasturtium leaf was taken with mu fuji finepix S8000d the others, my Sony DSCN1. There are some gorgeous macro images in this thread - lovley to see Everyone looks for something different, and everyone produces images containing bits of themselves

  8. THIS Site appears to have some good stuff! Take a peep at the first aid kits as well .
  9. yep . Usually dogs are like chocaholics if it's there, they will pig out!! Dogs are 'wired' so that their brains will still behave as if they are wild, and hunting their food. If they have a good and successful 'hunt' they eat to bursting ... as they may not get a feed again for days . Modern dogs will still do this ... even tho they have food there all the time for your queries about BARF... click on HERE and HERE have fun learning all about dog food and feeding!
  10. Puppies and ill dogs may benefit from free feeding- but I feel most dogs will do much better if their portions are controlled, and if they are kept lean By feeding your dogs separately , you will soon discover what dogs are needing more/less food, and it is more of a communication/love thing - YOU are actually providing the food every time your dog eats. YOU are standing thee, telling your dog to sit ,while waiting for his dinner, and your dog is there gazing at you - rather than the dogs just helping themselves whenever THEY want You might find THIS thread interesting
  11. Please don't have her OFFLEASH at all!! Often bitches will get the urge to wander and find a mate- they are not being 'naughty' .. it is hormones talking .. and they will appear most disobedient
  12. Whilst she may not be able/willing to mate just yet , please don't walk her anywhere near your home- as dogs will follow her trail to your door!! AFAIK, bitches seasons are roughly divided into- 1 week coming in. 1 week IN season 1 week coming out.. it varies , and some biitches can mate early or later . so - for th enext 3 weeks... take her in teh car somewhere to walk her, NEVER let her out of your sight... and make sure she is inside when you are not home
  13. Sore muscle/joint in his jaw- or a tooth problem would be my random guess ..hope it can be fixed easily
  14. a whole neck would be fine- the neck chops are ok for tiny dogs/cats only - cos they end up with spiky bits which can be swallowed whole I used to feed neck chops to my city cats :D One boy used to eat it all- bone included!
  15. Just reading thru.... another way to get dogs to stop pulling .. walk the dog on the footpath near your house or somehwere ... just walk. Go a few blocks- turn round, walk back .repeat. No conversation.. no high pitched praise- just walk. the thing about walking a dog ,who is pulling, then let dog off for a river play etc... is the REWARD of the free-run comes after an anticipatory walk, with pulling and excitement most of the way. A repetitive walk backwards & forwards a few times takes away this 'reward' factor and the dog just plods. Do this for a few days, and see if there is a difference. Gradually increase the distance/distractions.....
  16. bridie - the joints will never become the shape they are supposed to, BUT with less weigh on, and the right treatment- her muscles will grow stronger and help support her joints! It will be a way into the future.. and you need to just do baby steps , but you CAN get her to a point where she will be happy to enjoy everything she can
  17. Thank you Toohey. Jed- we'll be beside you as you travel the bumpy and dark road ahead . You'll perhaps feel us jostling - you may hear our whispered words of encouragement- faint and soft they'll be, but you will know we are alongside you
  18. energy IS calories If an animal gets energy from a food- that food has calories All food has 'some' energy value fats, sugars and carbs are highest . All glucodin is is a HIGH energy source which is quick -acting. NOT good for normal young dogs with heaps of fat reserves !
  19. Please don't put glucodin in her water !!! That is fine for dogs who are ill and weak and thin and not eating. she does NOT need extra sugars - she has enough fat to burn to provide her with energy Dogs do not normally eat sugar .it is not good for them. kangaroo is indeed lean.. and a teaspoonful every couple of days will add interest - but don't be tempted to give her more!!
