  1. I have always found mice/chicken wings to satisfy them longer- without really filling their belly .Quality over quantity My first job at 17 y o was raising a large litter os OESD's. They mainly ate weetbix/milk..I have never used it since
  2. It is perfectly safe- but totally unneccesary Dogs do not need cereals/milk. Fill her up with good meat/bones, or a proper puppy kibble.her body does not require , or deal well with, cereal. Porridge would be better than weetbix if you MUST feed stuff like that... but it is only a cheap way of filling the puppy up- if you think about it.... did your pup's ancestors grow up munching on wheat/oat crops? Did they go round milking cows? No. They hunted animals/birds/fish..and ate everything, including bones and skin, eyeballs and fur. They also occasionally ate ripe fruit /berries on their travels ..and some fresh green soft grass.
  3. Nods politely to those still half-asleep Morning Jed- here, the birds are very noisy- dew covers every leaf/blade of grass, and the sun is warming things up . I hope today sees you feeling more comfortable *puts tray full of hot crumpets, buttered and ready for honey or fig jam, on the table, and goes to light a candle, in thankfulness of the DOL spirit *
  4. Hi Sorry, jed- have not been able to visit for a couple of days - hope you are resting and healing . *goes to light candle*
  5. <<<Please Please any idea's anyone on how to rid these mice, traps are set but just dont seem to go off when they take the stuff off,>>> yep :D buy the grey plastic traps from your supermarket ..'Safe &Sure'. http://www.flickr.com/photos/binjy/4495242494/ Bait the little disk with a SMEAR -not a spoonful- of peanut butter, or partially melted parmesan cheese .. set and wait for the snap! Set traps so the mice can easily enter from the front of the trap... not the side. Sorry- buttons for quotes, links etc not working
  6. X2 A wild animal may well reject/cannibalise young if they smell humans on them. A dog living its life closely with a family ? Should not be the case.
  7. OK, but - I wouldn't be rushing to put a dog on aspirin without vet advice. ... If you are concerned about pain levels. get the vet to give you some dog-appropriate pain relief - or see if you can get a consult with a specialist? My sugestion would be to ask in this forum about Panosteitis . Start a new thread. I remember threads about it in the past- and folks can share their tips and solutions
  8. Morning all ! oops- sorry that seemed a bit loud .. I woke up some dogs Thanks for the update toohey - well done, jed. Think I'll just sit quietly somewhere for now... while you lot eat the crumpets I brought . here--- they're pan fried in butter, and ther's a jar of honey
  9. What did your vet suggest?
  10. Cute pics of Elbie That 'badger' looks more like a squirrel to me  I love the horse toy!
  11. Justice- I like the card layout Justice- you may be interested in (if you haven't already) a BUBBLESITE .. a gallery of your very best work, that people can view .. and purchase, and contact you.
  12. It is a nasty feeling So glad the dogs are ok ...and I do hope you change your locks!
  13. the cardboard rolls from T/paper or paper towel. Old socks tied in knots small soft drink bottles with a few bits of kibble or treats in. whole apples whole carrots leather soccerballs- not fully inflated . cardboard boxes old leather dog collars(buckles removed) They also enjoy kongs and the odd squeaky toy.
  14. I agree- a runt is often that way because of a malformation, like cleft palate ( I presume you had them checked at birth?)..or it is for some reason not digesting food/something else is wrong. The runt may be weaker/smell different/beghave differently ..so mum removes it to care for the healthy ones. Nature knows best most times, but sometimes human intervention can help bring a runt back. Best of luck with them.
  15. Have you tried leash walking her in the backyard? When she is sleeping, or quiet.. gently and calmy and with NO speaking.. attach the leash to her collar ( you have had it in your pocket up til now ;) Walk straight out to the backyard... once again- NO talking...or patting or treats or anything... just walking .Then just walk around and around and around for about 20 mins. No talking..no treats...just walk After that, get her to sit ..and with no more talking or anything - take the leash off.. and you walk away- back to the house . If she follows you and comes up to you ... then GENTLY and quietly pat her and tell her how beautiful she is . You may also like to try attending obedience classes - or having a trainer come visit your house for private lessons That way you learn the correct way of going about it - and will hopefully be able to enjoy being on walks with your girl
  16. putting a harness on a baby puppy , and then putting her in a car - in strange surroundings is probably not a wise move I agree with Sandra- but would suggest the back seat/footwell. MUCH less danger of a wriggling /jumping/vomiting puppy being a distraction/impediment to the driver!!
  17. Whatever toys you make/buy ensure they are ones which suit your dog (breeding/temperament, quirks) Hamlet has no interest in rope toys or balls - he has a small family of soft toys which he carries around and sleeps with.He also loves empty butter containers and ice cream containers. One of our dogs has one large soccer ball which is her only everyday toy. She's not interested in aything else.
  18. Afternoon all Hope today is an even better one, jed. Hmm.. not many here today- that's ok- families need to have some time too So - those who are here may enjoy some fresh apple & cinnamon muffins I'll pop back later .
  19. Some of this is discussed in your thread from a couple of days back... HERE I would suggest increasing your walks.. and also do some obedience with her before you leave.Aussiedog toys may help keep her busy for a while Unfortunately , she may be a dog who IS hyper alert and noisy Perhaps a private trainer can come and see her , and give yyou some help? If you give us your location, someone will probably recommend one for you. ..as personal recommendation is a good reference!
  20. I can understand that , been there, done that ...and I guess if there is a plague- I will resort to some of them again...
  21. Kirty- Being 'cruel' to mice is not the objective.. or done with a desire to consciously torture them . I guess folks use what they think is effective and what is available. It IS a bit tricky tho to catch each mouse and inject the green dream ..and catch/release is just plain irresponsible! I am all for the use of good traps. the snap sort which ,9 times out of 10, deliver a death blow fairly quickly. I have tried the cement/plaster idea--- didn't really like the idea ...mice dying when the stuff expands in their stomachs, rupturing them and causing a painful death. Sticky traps? Don't start me on those! Disgusting invention. 'Humane traps" Mice are trapped and then try to chew/dig out. if there are multiple mice, often one or more will die, and then the others may cannibalise it .... stress causes all sorts of behaviours . yes, I have tried those traps too . I have dunked the traps in a bucket of (warm) water, and watched the pitiful bubbles ... give me a good strong plastic snap trap ..a compressed spine/broken neck and a realtively fast death for the poor little things...They die with a delicious smell in their little noses ... there are a lot worse ways. I apologise to each mouse.... and use the bodies for hawks/butcherbirds or the cats .
  22. Morning folks :D I do love how that cleaning fairy always has the waiting room smelling fresh and delicious .
  23. beautifully, done! Number 4 is my favourite :D
