Advice Please/have You Ever Experienced This?
persephone replied to jazzygirl's topic in Breeders Community
I agree- a runt is often that way because of a malformation, like cleft palate ( I presume you had them checked at birth?)..or it is for some reason not digesting food/something else is wrong. The runt may be weaker/smell different/beghave differently ..so mum removes it to care for the healthy ones. Nature knows best most times, but sometimes human intervention can help bring a runt back. Best of luck with them. -
How Can I Get Her To Pay Attention To Me?
persephone replied to haylz27's topic in General Dog Discussion
Have you tried leash walking her in the backyard? When she is sleeping, or quiet.. gently and calmy and with NO speaking.. attach the leash to her collar ( you have had it in your pocket up til now ;) Walk straight out to the backyard... once again- NO talking...or patting or treats or anything... just walking .Then just walk around and around and around for about 20 mins. No talking..no treats...just walk After that, get her to sit ..and with no more talking or anything - take the leash off.. and you walk away- back to the house . If she follows you and comes up to you ... then GENTLY and quietly pat her and tell her how beautiful she is . You may also like to try attending obedience classes - or having a trainer come visit your house for private lessons That way you learn the correct way of going about it - and will hopefully be able to enjoy being on walks with your girl -
putting a harness on a baby puppy , and then putting her in a car - in strange surroundings is probably not a wise move I agree with Sandra- but would suggest the back seat/footwell. MUCH less danger of a wriggling /jumping/vomiting puppy being a distraction/impediment to the driver!!

Ruby's Getting Good (update)
persephone replied to kelpiekaye's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Isn't that such a good feeling? Well done. -
Whatever toys you make/buy ensure they are ones which suit your dog (breeding/temperament, quirks) Hamlet has no interest in rope toys or balls - he has a small family of soft toys which he carries around and sleeps with.He also loves empty butter containers and ice cream containers. One of our dogs has one large soccer ball which is her only everyday toy. She's not interested in aything else.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
persephone replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Afternoon all Hope today is an even better one, jed. Hmm.. not many here today- that's ok- families need to have some time too So - those who are here may enjoy some fresh apple & cinnamon muffins I'll pop back later . -
Some of this is discussed in your thread from a couple of days back... HERE I would suggest increasing your walks.. and also do some obedience with her before you leave.Aussiedog toys may help keep her busy for a while Unfortunately , she may be a dog who IS hyper alert and noisy Perhaps a private trainer can come and see her , and give yyou some help? If you give us your location, someone will probably recommend one for you. ..as personal recommendation is a good reference!

Kirty- Being 'cruel' to mice is not the objective.. or done with a desire to consciously torture them . I guess folks use what they think is effective and what is available. It IS a bit tricky tho to catch each mouse and inject the green dream ..and catch/release is just plain irresponsible! I am all for the use of good traps. the snap sort which ,9 times out of 10, deliver a death blow fairly quickly. I have tried the cement/plaster idea--- didn't really like the idea ...mice dying when the stuff expands in their stomachs, rupturing them and causing a painful death. Sticky traps? Don't start me on those! Disgusting invention. 'Humane traps" Mice are trapped and then try to chew/dig out. if there are multiple mice, often one or more will die, and then the others may cannibalise it .... stress causes all sorts of behaviours . yes, I have tried those traps too . I have dunked the traps in a bucket of (warm) water, and watched the pitiful bubbles ... give me a good strong plastic snap trap ..a compressed spine/broken neck and a realtively fast death for the poor little things...They die with a delicious smell in their little noses ... there are a lot worse ways. I apologise to each mouse.... and use the bodies for hawks/butcherbirds or the cats .

maybe a silly question... how can there be a phantom pregnancy with NO reproductive equipment left??? Do speys these days just remove ovaries, or what? ..And if there is still a uterus in there- how do we know there are not embryos as well? ...
