  1. Keep contact with him calm and quiet .. when does he grab at hands? What are you doing when he does this? How do you play with him/talk to him? What training have you/do you do with him ?..where did you get him?
  2. I have never used crates for pups- but would imagine you need to make the crate the BEST spot to be put his food in there... a comfy bed with a heat pad if needed, etc. make sure the crate is somewhere he likes to be ... a corner is good- away from drafts, and somewhere he can feel safe . perhaps cover the crate somewhat ,so it feels secure? The back and top, maybe? Do it gradually... he is used to being with either other pups or humans.. being alone and physically separated from a pack is foreign to a puppy! don't sneak up and lock him in- this will lead him to be mistrustful! And rightly so . The crate should be somewhere he loves- it is NOT a punsihment ..it is where he snoozes- where he is put for short periods when you cannot supervise , and where he can safely chew his bones away from kids etc. One thing I will suggest is to start, NOW, training your boy to toilet on command :D This will make your life much easier ;) When you see him begin to wee or poo ..say your chosen word (it has to be something you are comforatble saying in public) repeatedly as he is toileting, and give lots of praise immediately after! It may take a week, or three, or a few days- but you will then start to say the word before he toilets... then as soon as he starts- say Good boy , or whatever- but not TOO enthusiastically, yet- or he will STOP to see what the fuss is about This way, when you get him out of the crate.. and before you put him away, etc he will have the cue to empty out. There will be crate training folks here soon, no doubt, to share their ideas
  3. Good morning folks in the waiting room- and good morning to jed.SO glad you have found your way here , and I hope you find it a place where you can talk and cry and absorb the love and caring that seems to be in the very walls ..and share in the virtual decadent goodies too, if you're up to it :D *slides a jug of hot milky cocoa onto a table, and opens a couple of packets of TimTams, just because...* *goes to light a candle*
  4. I think because it is such a concentrated source of 'goodies' .. I have heard of dogs having to be hospitalised for a few days .. oon drips & such, but cannot remember exactly what the stuff 'does' Might pay you to ring a vet, or Werribee or somewhere, and ask, Chewy.
  5. Vet Visit would be wise ! B&B can be a nasty thing when ingested like that
  6. keep him warm and quiet and don't fuss .. just make sure he is comfortable . and let him sleep undisturbed. Take him out for a toilet opportunity before bed time..make sure he has water close handy .. and maybe offer a snack - but don't push him to eat. he'll be wide awake come morning!!
  7. Glad she had that sorted ... she timed it well!
  8. No help here, sorry . Abdominal pain of some sort? poor little fella.
  9. Vickie- teh cake episode remonds me of my Kieran boy- dane x VERY tall - able to put his head on teh kitchen tables....but normally very trustworthy.Mum had made a cake and iced it and left it on teh table to cool/dry. when she went to put it away, she noted it looked lopsided. Hmmm Kieran had licked all the icing off one side ..very gently .... LOL Yes, we did eat the cake
  10. , Jed. What a gorgeous photo and what a lovely mental image of Mum carrying her babies over the bridge .
  11. Morning, jed- hope you slept restfully last night .. and Morning, the waiting room folks Sunny day here, and I see jed's curtain is partially open to let in the light again. That is so good! Because it's saturday, and because jed is back - I cooked up a heap of things, popped them in an esky to keep them warm, and dashed over. (yes, there are plenty of plates etc) Ok- *puts bowls on table* Sausages, eggs, bacon, tomatoes, and toast . Help yourselves, and enjoy Just make sure jed gets some as well ! *goes off to the chapel to light a candle *
  12. put the tray/s in another room and use some sort of gate which allows the cat to get thru but not the dog?
  13. Poor Sebbi - now he just has to figure out how to knock over that stool!! Mind you- your kits don't need food out 24/7 ... they will survive quite well with a couple of feeds a day , just like puppies . It makes it easier to keep food away from dogs too!
  14. Hamlet, the beast, is around 7 . He is an absolute guts and thieves the other dogs' food, etc.I have always been proud of him inside tho- as he has never stolen anything off a table, or our plates ... A few days ago, Dougal cat jumped onto a table in the kitchen .. as I had a few cat bikkies in a little bowl to give him later. He knocked down the cat food bag- which Hamlet noticed had opened... and by the time I realised what was going on, Ham was standing amongst paper towel rolls, fruit basket etc.. cleaning up the last of the bikkies. OK- accident. yesterday, I noticed ham with teh cats' little dish- empty... and thought i must have not picked it up off teh floor. Fine. Today- I bought some nice ginger biscuits for us- Mum & I opened the packet this afternoon and had one each with a cuppa. ;) A little while after, I heard a funny noise--- and there was an EMPTY biscuit packet on the floor No excuses this time - Ham was the only one in the kitchen. ;) Now we have to be really vigilant ,and not leave ANYTHING in bags or anywhere he can reach. It's going to be hard after so many good years ! I think he FINALLY realised what was on that table :p Anyone else have late-onset delinquents?
  15. Jed- I am ,, like everyone else SO happy to get to welcome you back, but then I think of the welcomes and waggy bums you will miss- those of your beautiful dogs who have gone over the bridge . When you sleep- may your dreams not be nightmares , and I hope you can feel our love and caring wrap around you like a blanket ... I'll just paste this- have something in my eyes and can't see too well...
  16. x2 impacted/infected anal glands are not nice
  17. I think for problem dogs this may be an option- but how will sending your pup away teach YOU how to train it in the behaviours you want/expect at home?
