  1. Hi, rach - hope he is feeling better very soon! perhaps it may hurt your dog to lap water? perhaps he will be more interested in milk/water mixture..or just give him wet food . If he has been on a drip etc at th evets he may not be very thirsty anyway- don't worry too much. Just leave things there.. and when he wants to, he will.
  2. Stress can make dogs do this too .... just a thought.
  3. Welcome. First things first To avoid possible stomach upsets etc with the new pup- feed exactly what the breeder is using for the first weeks ...then gradually change over to your choice of food. I think it's label reading time ! The quality of a food is in its ingredients ... Meat is obviously the most important ingredient - this should be first on an ingredient list, ideally. BARF feeding is popular - and can be done without too much effort here are some links to threads which may interest you. LINK LINK http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...mp;hl=BARF+diet
  4. Lumps..... Hmmm.could be allergy/abscess/bite... hard to suggest any one cause with not much info poor puppy... he is in teh wars .
  5. Hi, Jed Hope today was better than yesterday, and gives you a glimpse of how much better tomorrow will be
  6. Don't need eyes to smell bones Should be more of 'em!! (cadaver dogs)
  7. Sometime in teh next few weeks I will be getting some ex caged hens- so I will see how long it takes them to be happy chookies I love watching happy chookies !
  8. What sort of food? about 1/3 or 1/2 of his current food ..and as said, bulked out with cooked pumpkin if needed
  9. Glad he is alert and that thereseems to be nothing internally wrong
  10. Hmm.. went a - googling... streetscapes
  11. I don't kn ow- but I would not class this as streetscape
  12. Hi- just wondering how Morrison is this morning?
  13. Fair enough- tho I would perhaps interpret this as him feeling physically uncomfortable ..and going to a 'safe' spot - his bed ..
  14. us humans mostly buy dog beds because they look nice to us . Provided a dog is off a cold floor- in a draft free spot, and has enough cushioning to allow their hips/feet some leeway...they don't care if they are on your old jumper, or a designer cushion! Our house dogs sleep on opshop pillows/blankets/polar fleece throws .. and these get thrown out when too grotty.
  15. I don't think they 'sulk' like humans... I think, because they mostly live in the moment, that a change of environment-even back home, somewhat disrupts them ..and leaves them a bit confuddled Some dogs don;t seem to be affected, tho. Dogs also react to body language etc.. so pick up on anything which may be happening with you. Sometimes, too, after being in a kennel- the learned behaviour is to lie & sleep a lot... so it is carried on for a short time at home again.... I have found that often the new environment/routine/socialisation can create a very relaxed and 'tired' seeming dog This wears off once home and back into normal anticipatory behaviour
  16. If it were me, I would take a photo... not apply th e ointment-wait until tomorrow- and then phone the clinic .
  17. How often are you brushing/combing your new puppy? if you groom her for a couple of minutes everyday , you will find she stays cleaner MUCH longer It is also a good bonding/training thing at this age. I tend to only bath pups if they roll in something nasty.... or are smelling like half chewed meaty bones Not often at all!
  18. Rice and tuna is fine - I wouldn't use a stock cube because most tuna is in brine anyway and dogs don't need very much salt .. But that and a few grated cooked veges is fine short term Do you have a friendly butcher? he may well give you a bag of bones 'on credit'
  19. Oops. Moral of the story- make sure the harness FITS the dog! Don't be tempted to be 'kind' by leaving it loose Also- use it only in the manner it is meant to be used ... Also make sure your dog is trained to wear the harness, before driving of- it could have been dsiastrous if Elbie had really panicked/bolted onto the front seat and knocked your hands off the wheel or something! Back to the drawing board ...... and now Elbie KNOWS if he throws a real tanty- someone will once again sit in the back with him
  20. Sorry about what happened- if you haven't experienced it before- yes, it is scary ! Hopefully Morrison recovers quickly :D Try not to smother him now, out of guilt/sympathy...this may make him very anxious!! You will be of most help to him if you are as normal as possible.... and get back to meeting nice dogs/walking asap. :D
  21. Hi - 20 months old, or 2 months old? the stains under her eyes could well be tear stains. A vet check is the best way to work out why this is happening. the licking - could be a submissive gesture- little pups lick their mum/other adult's mouth ..... the excited piddling is just that- excitement/submission. This is a management issue for you and your family/friends. To start with, maybe try this? Dog should NOT be greeted at all on meeting anyone- totally ignore her- no looking at her, or speaking, or patting .(even if she is bouncing on you- just turn away). No baby talk, or excited voices if possible. Let her settle- ask her to sit.. then pat her- talk to her gently and calmly.. and briefly.
  22. personally, I hate seeing pups with foam beds etc- I worry about them ingesting pieces :D :D Problem is - we give puppies foam/soft toys .... then we give them the exact same materials - but in a large flat form, and expect them to completely ignore that it behaves the same as their toys! When they walk on it/poke it with their nose- it feels the same... it is soft, and if mouthed, it feels good, like their toys.....why not chew it?
  23. I think it depends on the breed, the bitch's health, what her history is , how desperate you are to have a litter from her as opposed to risking her health, how experienced you are , and what vet support you have. I have known bitches whelp easily and happily well into double figures ...others who were considered 'too old' at 7/8 years of age. First litters should be done when the bitch is still young - there are dangers with a first pregnancy/whelping with an older bitch :D
  24. towels and newspaper until he learns restraint :D
